[006] Rescue on Ruie!

Sigrun keys her comms and sends to the Old Dream “Hermod this is Valkyrie. Move now! On arrival fire on the Quonset hut, danger close - my call”. She sets a ten minute countdown as she listens hard for the jeep patrol and covers Whistler as he confirms the kills and drags the bodies further into concealment within the ruins. To the G carrier she sends "Two kills, moving to target - standby".

Sigrun hears the confirmation that The Old Dream is moving with a 10 minute ETA.

She then nods to Whistler and takes point leading off north towards the smaller camouflaged trader. Moving through the shadows beneath the space craft she takes her time, checking the ten minutes counting off the chrono on her armoured forearm. Easing forward around the landing gear of the starship she looks for the sentry standing at the lateral airlock of the 400T trader. If she spots him she moves to close the range and optimise her shot. She checks the countdown again while indicating to Whistler that he is also to engage the sentry on her call.

The pair move up, like shadows inside the shadows of the structures of the ruins and then across a short open space into the shadows of the 200 ton ship. Joe, taps Tiglath on the arm and points to the jeep moving along the dunes passing the road and moving toward the west side of the fenced compound.

With nine minutes gone she speaks softly to her comrade “Whistler, sentry then boarding action - you ready?” She lifts her visor and squeezes the tablet into her mouth and washes it down with mead offering the flask to Whistler. As she feels her heart rate start to accelerate she smiles like a wolf in the darkness. She closes her visor and removes the cover from the heraldry on her armour’s faceplate “Let’s unleash Hel”.

Whistler does like wise with the tablet swallowing it without water. Tiglath chest constricts as the tablet does its damage to her system...not for the first time she thinks this can't be good for her heart, and other organs.

As the countdown expires she keys her comm again calling the waiting team “G carrier – attack now. Old Dream is inbound. I advise you come in hot“.

She aims at the sentry this time electing a bodyshot and a four round burst. Whistler will fire with her at the same target. Their cue to fire will be the G carrier's acknowledgement of the attack order.

(OOC: As per my understanding of both maps the 400T trader must be nose on to the Quonset hut with its lateral airlock visible from the smaller trader. Clearly I'm outlining Sigrun's intent not the outcome and I hope the actions described covered the appropriate timeframe. I assume actions/timeframe will soon become "tactical". She believes the Old Dream is imminent - but who knows ).

Whistler moves away from Tiglath by a few meters to give a different angle of attack. Tiglath takes careful aim controlling her breath to make her shot fit right into a rest phase. She hears a rising whistle from the northeast signalling the imminent arrival of The Old Dream. Just as she squeezes the trigger she hears Joe's SMG start its "chut, chut, chut!"

Sigrun's shots [10] hit center mass for 18,22,19,12 damage
Whister's shots [10] hit for 9,11,11 damage
The guard's lifeless body jerks around like a puppet as it is tossed back under the fuselage of the 400 ton ship.

Both Sigrun and Whister run for the gangway and are up it in almost the blink of an eye. Behind them the whistle has become almost ear splitting and as they burst through the open air lock at the top they hear a deafening "WHUMP!"

Sigrun and Whister pause just inside the airlock. The inner door is closed, but isn't secured and can be pushed right open. From behind they feel a blast of air pass by and hear the bangs and pops of debris hitting the ship's hull.

With the Combat Slow in their systems, Sigrun and Whistler are fast enough to act again before what happens next in this part of the action. So what do you do?

To the team Sigrun sends "One kill! Entering portside lateral airlock". She brings her rifle to her shoulder and places covering fire through the inner airlock door (i.e. into the Forward Lounge beyond it) and then nods to Whistler to open the inner door. She's expecting him to give her the lead once the door is open. She sends "We take the bridge! Go!"

When the door opens she will engage any person not dressed in prisoners coveralls with a burst of autofire.

John Lee has The Old Dream's location on the grav craft's screen and sees it begin to move south from the Star port. It gains altitude and then then starts to descend toward the base.

Sigrun's "GO" comes over the craft's and into everyone's vacc suit's radio (for those wearing them).

I'm going to assume you lift the grav vehicle and fly fast and straight through the aft cargo doors. If that's not right, correct me.
The grav craft bursts from the shadows where it has been hiding and pushes everyone aboard back as it accelerates at its maximum over the fence and toward the 400 ton ship.

Just before the craft reaches the open rear cargo doors everyone who isn't concentrating on the dark opening in front of them sees and hears the arrival of The Old Dream...a loud whistle followed by a resounding "WHUMP!" as it fires a sand canister at point blank range right into the metal Quonset hut.

John Lee reverses the drives hard and everyone is thrown forward as the craft decelerates and skids to a halt inside the cargo hold. The vehicle stops abruptly as it whacks into the side of a large shipping crate. The wooden crate splinters and skids forward. The armored grav craft seems to take the hit well. The passengers are tossed around a little, but no one is injured.

Looking around you can see several wooden cargo crates inside the cargo bay, but the aft section it is mostly empty. Ahead, you see some large gas tanks in the central section of he hold. There is no sign of a guard.

Okay, you're inside on the lower deck, in the aft cargo hold. Everyone post what you do next.

Zaki grasps her shoulder straps with both hands as the grav vehicle shudders to a stop. She waits for everyone else to debark, then she unbuckles, stands up, dons her medkit on her back. She steps to the door, draws her pistol, and checks that it's chambered and the safety is off. Then, she steps out into the cargo bay, and makes her way forward while looking for a route to the upper deck.

With fair warning given, he lifts the G Carrier off the ground and starts his run toward the ship.
Fast NOE flying, nothing fancy. Get there quick, in one piece, and scare the excrement out of the local wildlife.

Sigrun steps up to the door and sees a single guard dressed in camo holding a SMG. Sigrun fires hitting the guard in the chest, upper chest and then shoulder. The fourth shot whizzes past the guard and flattens itself on the starboard bulkhead of the lounge. The guard spins and goes down in a bloody heap.

Rushing into the forward lounge you see an exit on your left, to the bridge, and two exits on your right. The nearest exit would lead down the crew corridor and the farthermost down the passenger corridor. All three exits are closed.

He can open it with a push of a button beside the hatch, or manually by turning the wheel on the hatch. Charlie, armed with a shotgun and wearing a vacc suit steps in behind Chandra and says, "I'll cover you kid. We need to take Engineering just as much as taking the Bridge."

He presses the button to send the lift to the Forward Lounge, not entering, just sending the empty lift up. The plate rises from the deck and as it moves up the overhead slides apart to allow the lift plate to continue up to the upper deck.

John Lee says, "I'm going to take a quick look at what was in the crate, and then we should check the engineering sections here."

Pedro says " We may be headed outta here fast and jinky, and I don't know what shape the gcomps are so we'll want to tie the carrier down. Be a shame if it fell out the back as we left!"

Chandra will open the hatch manually (don't want to waste time counting on power, he'll be ready to jam if if an override comes from bridge or engineering). We will definitely check portside lower engineering before heading up to main engineering. I assume another team will check starboard lower engineering.

Zaki stays close to Pedro. "We have to get to the prisoners before the guards kill them," she says urgently. "If you're worried about the carrier, just close the hatch." She accesses the standard ship layout on her HUD. "Pedro! We can get to the upper deck through here!" She points to the starboard engineering access hatch.

Sigrun continues her grim commentary to the team “One kill. Forward Lounge secure”.

As her eyes make an immediate tactical appraisal of the room and she transmits "Carrier crew what's your status? Lift and forward cargo hatch clear and secured for access".

Her predatory instincts, focussed and honed by the combat drug racing through her system, drive her towards the Bridge. In the time it takes her to cross the lounge she has slung her gauss rifle and filled her hands with proper weapons to storm a ship. Her axe sings to her through her right arm while the deadly weight of her Ulfberht autosnub hangs in her left with its red laser sight active.

To Whistler she sends “Now we are among them! We know a starship crew are not aboard yet but we must secure the bridge. If the bridge is dark then we free the Jarl”.

Still believing they have the element of surprise she nods Whistler to manually open the hatch and, set to charge, she will look through the (hopefully opening hatch) onto the bridge.
