Re: 01. Situation at the Falls
Strom engages the enemy by proximity. He moves himself to avoid getting surrounded and will try to dispatch each for quickly.
Strom uses his large bastard sword one handed, his shield in the other, and launches an attack on the nearest enemy.
Attack:
[1d20] = 17+2 to hit = 19
Damage:
[1d8+1] = 5+1 = 6+3 to dmg = 9

Round 02
=== The Archers ===
Gwilt turns his attention to the creature responsible for narrowly missing him with a crossbow bolt a few moments earlier. With a fluid motion, he retrieves an arrow from his quiver and lets it fly... wide. He quickly fires off a second shot using the same, well-practiced motion, only this arrow finds its mark, planting itself into the right shoulder of the target, twirling the now lifeless form to the ground. (Please mark off two arrows if you haven't already done so.)
Shannigans, taking a queue from Gwillt, decides to switch targets. Discouraged at his prowess with the bow, he resorts to a much more effective means of ranged attack.
a pedibus usque ad caput
The utterance of the otherwise unintelligible words, followed by a few simple gestures evokes a single missile on its way towards the leader. The initial yelp, followed by an angry growl, are proof enough to Shannigans that his efforts were successful. (Please note the expended spell.)
---
With no remaining enemies in the immediate vicinity, Gwilt and Shannigans feel a brief moment of relief before turning their attentions elsewhere.
=== Close Encounters ===
Garth continues to lead the charge... and the execution of his plan. He stops short and, with material components already in hand, begins reciting the magical phrases necessary to accomplish his task. 'non sic dormit, sed vigilat!' Targeting the 'boss,' Garth and the rest of the advancing party members are pleasantly surprised when the entire phalanx of humanoids defending the leader fall restlessly to the ground.
(In an effort to not hold up the game, I went ahead and selected the target (I figured the 'boss' was logical) and rolled for the number of hit dice affected. Please try to include this required information with future castings (or just accept that I will do it for you if forgotten)).
The fallen phalanx of defenders provides Ewell with all the opportunity he needs. 'We have unfinished business.' he thinks to himself. He charges at the leader, hurdling the sleeping forms in front of him. His attempt to skewer the 'boss' is ineffective, though, as his lance glances off the plate mail of the armored beast.
Strom, too, overlooks the slumbering opponents, instead electing to use his large bastard sword in a vicious attack against the leader. The sound of metal-on-metal is startling as the explosive strike cuts through the plate armor and inflicts significant damage upon its target.
Seeing the 'boss' taking a crushing blow, Kaltar will follow the lead of his noble companions and attempt to finish the deal. Despite his admirable attempt, the armor of his opponent proves too difficult to penetrate.
---
Instead of striking the heroic blow he hoped, Kaltar is completely caught off guard as an arrow comes flying in from his left (east) and pierces him on his left side (-4). An instant later, a crossbow bolt zips through the engaged combatants, missing its mark... but reminding everyone of the presence of the archers flanking them.
The 'boss,' while severely hobbled, roars in anger and mightily swings his deadly two-handed blade at Ewell. The very near miss reminds everyone of the seriousness of the situation.
End of round two.
***
Everyone, please feel free to declare your actions for round three. If attacking, please make sure to also include your intended target and make all necessary die rolls for your intended actions. I will attempt to point out missing declarations/rolls before all action is resolved, but will make the decisions/rolls myself once all actions are in and play is ready to resume.

Ewell feels a sense of urgency if he wants to claim the victory. This time he shoves his lance with a bit more focus...
lance to hit (+3 str bonus): [1d20+3] = 18+3 = 21 , lance damage on foot 1d6 (+5 Cav and str bonus): [1d6+5 ] = 5+5 = 10
I forgot, do we roll the modified init each round?
edited to add Modified initiative (using lance): [1d10+6] = 7+6 = 13 Use if needed, ignore if not...

Yes, thanks for reminding me.onlyme wrote:I forgot, do we roll the modified init each round?
I don't really care who does it, but could one of the "archers" please roll for their initiative, and one of the players engaged in melee please make a roll for that group?

Re: 01. Situation at the Falls
Initiative [1d10] = 10
(Gah... guess that averages out with the 1 from last round)
Assuming Gwilt is way too far away to hit the two flankers that went east, he will use this round to try and close as much distance as he can.
(Are we using 1e or 2e movement rules? If 2e, then his normal combat movement rate is 10" outside, which is 100 yards...
A character can normally walk his movement rate in tens of yards in a single round. An unencumbered human can walk 120 yards (360 feet), slightly more than a football field, in one minute.
...If that gets him to short range to attack the two flankers, then he'll just do that.)
If he needs to move a greater distance (or if we're using different rules), then he'll jog (in 2e rules, that is 2x normal movement rate for number of rounds equal to constitution) or run (3x normal movement rate for number of rounds equal to constitution with a successful STR check) this next round in order to move himself into range.
I don't believe he'd be able to move half his rate (50") to be able to fire as well. I don't think that would get him close enough. But let me know if otherwise.

I should probably add the blurb you quoted below, but I did include the 'Modified Movement Rate' table and information in the section on 'Encumbrance.'
I rule that you will be able to walk half your movement rate in yards and still be able to fire a single (not two) shot. In fact, if you do move your full 50 yards (150 feet), you'll very easily find yourself in 'short' range.Alethan wrote:...If that gets him to short range to attack the two flankers, then he'll just do that... Just to clarify, 7 is the group initiative roll in the above example (where 6 is the weapon speed).onlyme wrote:edited to add Modified initiative (using lance): [1d10+6] = 7+6 = 13 Use if needed, ignore if not...

Re: 01. Situation at the Falls
Well, considering his initiative roll...
Gwilt calmly meanders his way across the field for about 50 yards before sighting in the creature with the bow and firing off an arrow.
To Hit, Shortbow [1d20+4] = 18+4 = 22
Damage, Flight Arrow [1d6] = 4
(pew pew pew...)

Before I made this roll, I said to myself, "Ok, let it hit... but just barely! They're going to think something's up if you get another 18."

"Damn. They're going to stop believing these rolls if this keeps up."

Re: 01. Situation at the Falls
Shannigans falls in step behind the ranger once again, closing in on possible targets and tries to find one. Not wanting to fire into melee, he takes the safer shot, again inspired by the accuracy of the ranger and steps ahead and tries to hit one of the foes furthest apart from any friendlies, unless Gwilt's attack fails to kill, in which case he will shoot at the same target as Gwilt.

OOC: Sorry, by all means NPC any needed mechanics if I neglect to do so.
Seeing the results of his spell, Garth continues to advance, already planning his next move. Reaching into his druid pouch, he allows the armored ones to pass him before holding up and casting 'Faerie Fire'. After that, he joins the battle, Scimitar slashing. "Quickly. Slay him."
[1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16 to Hit
[1d8] = 2 damage

Round 03
Garth acts first. Pleased with the outcome of his 'Sleep' spell, he looks to continue the magical assault. A small piece of foxfire and a few foreign words later and the leader of the orcs becomes outlined with a pale glowing light as a result of a successfully cast 'Faerie Fire' spell (ooc: If you haven't done so already, please mark the expended spell on your character sheet).
The benefit of the glowing outline around the leader isn't even needed as Ewell is amongst the next group to act and uses his lance to find a vulnerability in the plate mail worn by the leader. Skewering this boss forcefully causes the leader to crash to the ground unmoving. Strom lowers his large bastard sword to the throat of this fallen leader but a coup de grâce is unnecessary -- the leader is dead.
---
The missile-launching humanoids, now easily identified as being orcs, act quickly. The first orc, armed with a crossbow, fires a bolt into the middle of melee. The missile zips past the head of the boss as it collapses to the ground and narrowly misses Strom as it continues on its uneventful path. The second orc, this one armed with a short bow, surprisingly turns right (north, towards the river), diverting its attention away from the party, and fires off a pair of arrows at a previously undetected target. This undetected target returns in kind, launching a pair of arrows at the missile launching orcs. His first arrow sinks into the unaware, crossbow-wielding orc but is not a fatal blow. The second arrow, targeting the short bow-wielding orc, just misses its mark.
Meanwhile, Gwilt advances about 50 yards, bringing himself into a better range, before launching a near-fatal arrow into the orc carrying a crossbow. This pin cushion, now with three arrows in it (two from this round, the other apparently from a previous round) staggers on its feet (ooc: If you haven't done so already, please mark an arrow on your character sheet).
Shannigans, not wanting to fire into melee, falls in step behind the ranger. Inspired by the accuracy of the ranger, he launches an arrow at the pair of ranged orcs. His shot strikes the short bow wielding orc and Shannigans watches proudly as his target drops to the ground, unmoving (ooc: If you haven't done so already, please mark an arrow on your character sheet).
---
Kaltar seeing a ranged orc still standing (albeit barely), raises his shield in a defensive maneuver to protect the comrades previously doing battle with the leader from and incoming arrows.
---
End of round three.

Computer + 1, I apologize for not waiting for your declared action for this second round but the result would have been inconsequential given the outcome of the other simultaneous actions.
Everyone, please feel free to declare your actions for round four, and will one member from each 'group' roll for initiative, please?
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
