Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
Re: Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
Devrin
"Fight it is, then." says Devrin. "It is slow and clumsy on land. If we stay on either side of it, keep it flanked, I think we might have a chance. Just don't let it drag you into the water. If it grabs one of us, the other has to attack that much harder." Devrin's long sword slides from its scabbard with an easy grace. "Let's kill this thing."

Devrin nods at Monocar's suggestion. "Good idea, he can't drag anything into the water if he can't walk!"
As the creature gets closer, Devrin adds, "OK, let's start to spread apart. If he seems intent on one of us, the other should use that to get past it and attack its rear."
Devrin looks at his sword."It's time to dance, Elise."

Devrin takes his own advice and moves sideways, away from Monocar. He wants at least ten feet or so between them, to make the object of the creature's intent obvious. Devrin rather suspects it will be him, since the thing has followed him this far.

Continues yelling surprisingly creative obscenities and insults at the creature, taunting him to draw attention.

Re: Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
Scraggly Finally Attacks!
Mid Afternoon, Hot, Humid, Sandy
Monocar and Devrin shout out their plans to each other as the monster slowly advances on them. Devrin splits off, keeping about 10 feet in between he and the Mountain. Just as he expected, the sea beast follows the much smaller elf, finally getting in close enough to have a taste.
With Jack, Alordan, and Raythan still a little ways away up the beach, the beast trudges over in front of Devrin, looking angry and ready for a fight.
Actions!
Devrin Treesong 9/9 CL, DM, RM, 1/1 first
Alordan 9/10
Saracen Solaris 10/12 0/3 first
Jack 8/10 CL, DM, RM, 1/1 first
Monocar 12/12
Luther 11/13
Raythan 6/6 CL, DM, RM, 1/1 first / 3/3 first (cleric)
You two can go ahead and attack if you're just going to wait around for this thing.
The next three party members will arrive on the scene after the 2nd full round of action. Luther and Saracen will be a while yet.

Devrin
Devrin spars and feints, keeping the creature at bay, looking for an opportunity for a serious attack. When he finally sees his opening, he goes for the creature's upper leg, trying to take out the knee as well as the thigh. He fears this thing carrying him into the water.
[1d20+3] = 17+3 = 20 Attack with Long Sword inc/ all bonuses.
[1d12+3] = 6+3 = 9 Long Sword Damage vs. L Opponents inc/ all bonuses.
"I think I have its attention, sir!" the elf says to Monocar. "Do your worst!"

Monocar
Rushes up behind the Sea Ogre and shows his improficiency with a short sword right off. Missing the extra length his old broad sword used to have as he misjudges the distance with any otherwise powerful swing, missing the brute's legs altogether.
To hit [1d20+2] = 1+2 = 3 To DMG [1d6+4] = 2+4 = 6

Re: Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
Teamwork Doesn't Pay
Round 1
After some encouragement from his new friend, Monocar tries to sneak around behind the ten foot beast. Instead, he trips in the soft sand and lands flat on his face. The front half of his sweaty clothes, body, and head are now covered in the hot grains.
Devrin has much better luck with his bold attack. He stands toe to flipper with this massive monster, trying to cut at its legs and knees, which are conveniently at normal fighting height for the much smaller elf. Up close, he sees that the slimy beast is very thick-skinned and heavily scaled, with limp strands of hair the color of seaweed hanging down to its broad shoulders.
Dodging the first claw attack, Devrin thrusts his blade deep into one green thigh. The monster bellows out in pain while smelly yellow ooze flows out of the nasty wound. It's huge mouth, filled with hundreds of needle-sharp teeth, bites down at the elf with surprising agility. He is barely able to sidestep the horrible bite that he is now convinced could easily kill him. The brush with death stuns the elf for a split second, allowing the second claw to painfully rake him across his chest. 4 dam The behemoth looks down the beach, noticing that the others are almost on him as well.

Re: Quest #8 "Bring Me The Sea Monsters Head"
Things Just Got Real
Round 2
Devrin shakes off the wound and stabs at the much larger creature again, landing what he thinks is a pretty good blow. But much to his horror, his sword does not penetrate the thick hide of the sea monster. He is raked again by one claw, causing him to lean forward slightly. 2 dam That is the last thing the elf ever remembers.
The hideous beast lunges forward again, biting down with incredible power and accuracy. The precise strike takes off one ear and the entire left side of Devrin's face, also tearing a huge chunk out of his neck and shoulder in the process. 20 dam For a few seconds, elf blood spurts and gurgles from the gaping mortal wound, just before his dead body falls backwards, landing completely lifeless in the bloodstained sand. What a perfect welcome for Jack, Alordan, and Raythan, who all just arrived on this rather disturbing scene. With one tasty meal now secured, the beast turns its attention towards the big and juicy Monocar for some second helpings, all the while the huge human continues flailing around ineffectively with his tiny sword.

Really Sorry Rick! Tuff break on the critical hit bite damage.
You are an excellent player and a great addition to the game! I sure hope you stick around and roll up something new to continue exploring the island. Alas, it just wasn't meant to be for poor Devrin. May his spirit soon find its way to the undying lands.......or something like that.

is stunned to see the elf go down so gruesomely. He looks up at the sea creature and roars out his rage, jumping forward swinging with all his might in and upward swipe like a cricket batter into the creatures groin!
To hit [1d20+2] = 19+2 = 21 To DMG [1d6+4] = 4+4 = 8
Finally! The dice realize the Man Mountain Monocar is pissed! Tough break Rick. Hope you roll up another character. I was looking forward to see what you could do here.

He stops at medium range, unshoulders his bow, nocks an arrow and yells to Monocar: "Hey! Mister! Get the pissbitchfuck out of there!"

Seeing the elf fall, Luther lets off a few choice words of his own and steps up the pace, hoping to get into the fight before anyone else is killed.
