Florin will help double check that the door is not trapped any further.

Rojo the Rat
"We've gotten the traps off this one... maybe... so let's see what's inside!"
Rojo will still stand out of the direct path of anything that might shoot out as he opens the door. (He'll stand between the two cylinders, reach over and open the door, then wait 10 seconds before checking out what's inside).

Florin "Very well I was just double checking to make sure."

Rojo gives Florin a weary smile. "Absolutely.
It seems like every step here is trapped, so let's keep our eyes open."

Re: Chapter 1: Out of the Frying Pan...
Dwernoc nods, "These cylinders are quite curious. The presence of a trap, I would propose, indicates that there is something of value worth guarding behind that door."Pulpatoon wrote:Virmel, seeing that the capable Rojo needed a second pair of eyes, waits for a second opinion on approaching the middle pillar. In the meantime he considers Dwernoc's statement. "Fascinating. Why doors, then? Why enter a column beneath a statue? A manner of communing with the gods? Receptacles for sacrifices? But then, why trap them? And how far down do they go? I'll be very interested to see inside one of these."
Dwernoc will stand back, readying himself for any danger that may appear as Rojo and the others begin opening doors.
Re: Chapter 1: Out of the Frying Pan...
The bronze cylinder is hollow with a ladder going both up and down inside the cylinder.

Florin "These cylinders are really quite interesting."

"Anyone want to climb up into a god? Worm...?"
Re: Chapter 1: Out of the Frying Pan...
Virmel the Worm cringes, visibly torn between fear and curiosity. "They must be conduits for divine power. The ladder allows for literal ascension to the level of the gods. There... there may be some genuine power to be gleaned from such an act. On the other hand, the statues have been out in the sun an awfully long time, and it must be stifling in there. And you know how heat and dry air don't agree with my cough."
In the end, he can't resist, and steps forward, ready to climb up the ladder.
"And my name's not 'the Worm.' It's Virmel," whines the Worm.

Re: Chapter 1: Out of the Frying Pan...
I see that we have Rojo's cylinder open, and I did not see a trap on this one. Should I open it as well?
Urrok will wait to hear from the group before doing anything.

Dwernoc says to Urrok, "Yes, I think you should try opening it. Slowly, carefully..."
Dwernoc steps forward to the cylinder that Virmel opened. He looks down to see what he can see. He sniffs the air and listens for anything out of the ordinary. To Virmel he says,"I will wait here and watch your progress. Do not hesitate to ask for help if you should need it."

Re: Chapter 1: Out of the Frying Pan...
Urrok slowly opens the door when all hear the sound of air escaping from the wall facing the door. Four darts spit out of the wall, the first hitting the door in front of Urrok before falling to the ground, the second catches his backpack, the third catches inside the launcher causing the final to collide with it and spit both out to the floor far from their intended target.
Dart 1: [1d20] = 5 Damage [1d4] = 3
Dart 2: [1d20] = 13 Damage [1d4] = 2
Dart 3: [1d20] = 1 Damage [1d4] = 2
Dart 4: [1d20] = 15 Damage [1d4] = 4
Peering inside the tube, Virmel sees the ladder goes up 50 feet. From where he is, Virmel is unable to tell what is up there, however he does see some sunlight entering from somewhere above.

Re: Chapter 1: Out of the Frying Pan...
Florin hearing what sounds like darts or some sort of projectile firing "My god man are you alright? Lets try not to do that again."

Rojo the Rat
Nodding slowly, Rojo observes "We can assume that any door we haven't found a trap in has one, so no opening anything."
Rojo will then climb into his tube and go up, toward the gods.

Re: Chapter 1: Out of the Frying Pan...
Climbing up the ladder, Rojo finds that it goes up inside one of the statues on top of the pyramid. At the top of the ladder he finds a tube connected to the mouth of the statue. He also sees a number of levers. Looking about, the levers are attached to the head, eyes, and arms of the statue.
Re: Chapter 1: Out of the Frying Pan...

Not sure what to make the god statue do or say, Rojo moves down the ladder. When he reaches the group, he'll tell them what he saw, then try to go down the ladder until he can see whatever there is to see. Continuing to be cautious, he won't open any doors or move any levers, yet.

Re: Chapter 1: Out of the Frying Pan...
Climbing down, Rojo notices what appears to be a 10' radius at the foot of the ladder is lit by a glowing, 2' long beetle. The beetle has three glowing spots.

Rojo will come back up to the group to discuss what to do next. As he goes up, he'll try to figure out if it might be possible for someone to brace themselves in the tube and shoot down at the beetle with a bow.

Re: Chapter 1: Out of the Frying Pan...
Virmel the Worm looks crestfallen when he hears the details of the statue interiors. "Chicanery. Not a divine conduit at all. Disappointing.
"This beetle, did it seem like it was meant to be there, to provide illumination? A domesticated, living lamppost?"

Florin "Beetle? Well we are in the desert, so that does fit. How big was this beetle?"
