Shortbread balks, uncertain and unwilling to go down the hallway alone.

Do any PCs speak goblin and are they willing to go?

Okay, I had time to check the sheets...

Looking at each other and with a chorus of shrugs, the party realizes that no one among them has studied or understands the goblin tongue.

Foxy O'Hare

Foxy stares down both ways of the sloping corridor, a distant familiarity coming to mind...

"why I do declare this was near the spot those goblins betrayed us when we rescued the Farrow girls. Look there, that niche in the wall was carved by my blade as I stood my ground. I gutted one green goblin here, decapitated two coming that way, stabbed a third through the eye with just an arrow down there. Look Clay, that must be my dried blood on the wall, a living testimony to such heroic endeavours. The goblin dead piled up so high as to block this end of the corridor. Thankfully as reinforcements were digging their way through, Mr Farrow, grievously wounded as he was saw fit to carry my bleeding body away lest I too was torn to pieces."Foxy points to a blood stain on the wall here and there."Come the kings hallway should be down here."

Foxy points down the sloping hallway."The king had a massive hound from hell by his side. We should be wary and fear the beast."

The Grizzly Woman readies The Good Knife in one hand and carries The Grizzly's Trunk over her shoulder with the other, and keeps up with Foxy. Goblins or no goblins, she's ready to bust in on the throne room.

(Just as a reminder for myself as much as anything else: this is the first time Grizzly or anyone else has wielded the knife, so I have no idea what properties it may or may not have beyond 'emitting a sense of deep fear'. I'm just giving it a test drive to see what happens.)

I thought I had responded to this already!

Clay stares blankly at Ms. O'Hare as she recounts the tale. It was a brave act, to risk your life to reunite the two girls with their parents. And lessons learned, no doubt. The Goblin King broke his vow, so we must not trust his words again. When we enter, I suggest anyone with a ranged weapon focus on the hellhound. I will do what I can in regards to the undead and use my prayers to make the King's body rigid. Perhaps fire against any wargs?

The party steels itself to walk boldly into the heart of the Goblin King's domain, making a left to begin down the broad, sloping hallway. Foxy, Huckleberry the bear, and the Grizzly Woman walk abreast in the broad hallway - an imposing trio to any goblins, for certain. Grizzly holds the trunk ready and grips the Good Knife, feeling no different in doing so than she normally does as she walks within the deep stone delvings. Behind them walk Clay and Shortbread at the center of the group with Morrs padding along between them, then Halfpint and Baxtaw mind the rear flanks, their bows at the ready for when any threat appears.

The hallway stretches along and they notice they've passed a layer of stone deeper into the mountain as the slope continues to descend. They come to a pair of massive double doors on either side of the hall. Carved mahogany doors on the left are smashed open, revealing a massive room behind them. It is dark and appears unoccupied - scattered papers and vellum scrolls strewn over smashed wooden shelving, chairs and tables. "Library of the Walled Houses," reads Shortbread solemnly as he regards the writing on the remains of the doors. "Senseless," he adds, sadly. On the right side of the wall are doors of solid electrum, engraved with decorative knotwork and the closed fist of Jarkul's seal. The doors are heavily dented, but still hold firm, the lock remaining secure. Shortbread regards the doors with reverence, but says nothing. The group continues on.

The hallway descends through further striations, the walls polished to a high sheen to highlight the natural anomalies as you pass deeper still, Foxy leading on with her lantern as you seek the Goblin King's chambers. You approach another set of broad double doors, one set again on each side of the hallway. Both sets of doors stand open, the hallway empty between them.

Surprise Us: [1d6] = 2 Them: [1d6] = 3

It is quiet, and for a moment you hope that you have the luck to pass these abandoned chambers as well. Then a shaman in black robes, the edges lined with torn strips of fine red satin from the Southern Kingdoms, leaps out from the doorway and startles you. Ropes suddenly go taut on either side of you and a cache of clay containers fall from a concealment hidden artfully against the arched ceiling, smashing and releasing the unmistakable smell of oil in a massive slick behind you. With a WOOSH the oil goes up, suddenly making the hallway bright as the day and cutting off any hope of retreat back upwards along the hallway's length. You've blundered neatly into their ambush.

The goblin shaman sneers in the torchlight as only a goblin's face can and speaks loudly to Foxy in Common as other goblins pour out of the side archways. "Ahhhh... Flame of the North! You dare return?! Bringing your kind as sacrifice to Sdubok the Flaming, I see! Wahahahahaha!" While he issues his taunt, three black-robed acolytes rush forward, brandishing metal masks bearing demonic visages as if they were holy symbols. They are chanting in their vile language and try to put their splayed fingers on Foxy, Huckleberry, and Grizzly, but you are able to dodge back to avoid them making contact with you. The other goblins are near behind them, but pause to see the effect of their deity's power before they act themselves.

(Surprise round over. Actions and Initiative for round 1, please. There are three acolytes and five goblin warriors with the shaman behind them. A massive oil blaze blocks retreat.)

WIS 13 [1d20] = 1

Can Clay tell the acolytes are casting a spell? Or what their words are or their intentions?

Yes, it looked like a spell. Quite similar to the Cause Fear invocations which sent Clay running last time.

The Grizzly Woman

"Enough talk." The Grizzly Woman throws her Good Knife at the acolyte who can't shut up, then readies her Trunk.

With a whistle, she sends the bear to the right to attack the flank.

she will attack one of the acolytes and slash at their grasping hands.

Foxy melee: Scimitar:[1d20] = 12 damage:[1d8] = 5

"any hit will do, just ruin their spell casting!"she calls trying to get the group to focus on the shaman and his devilled up buddies.

Chaos descends on the hallway as the goblins surge forward, engaging in battle with your group. You concentrate your fire on the priestly acolytes - Baxtaw's arrow is released first, abruptly dropping one acolyte to the stone floor. Grizzly hurls her knife at Dmukaz, the head priest, just as he begins a sonorous chanting. The chanting cuts to the depth of your soul, making you feel the weight of his Gods for just that moment before the knife catches him in the shoulder and interrupts his words. Clay's sling stone thunks heavily into the second acolyte while Foxy's blade slices deep into the side of the third, both of them interrupted in their spells as well.

Halfpint releases her bow as well, but in the chaos her shot misses the goblin acolyte and instead hits Huckleberry the bear squarely in the hindquarters (-3). The bear lets out a blood-curling yowl as it turns, looking to flee up the hallway before it sees the wall of fire behind your party. He pivots again and charges past the scattering goblins into the right-hand double-doors, disappearing from sight. Morrs charges forward in his own fearless attack, grabbing Dmukaz by the leg with his fierce bite. (-2) Shortbread yells a battlecry in the dwarven tongue, stoicly facing down the five flanking goblin spearmen who come at his companions. He swings mightily at the interlopers to these dwarven halls, but misses.

The acolytes all interrupted in their spells, duck and dodge as they try to regroup. The other five goblins with spears charge in pell-mell, hoping to injure anyone they can. One spear grazes Clay (-4) while another catches Halfpint (-4).

Encouraged by the smell of fear on the cleric, Morr presses his attack with fervor, knowing his deed will protect his friend, Clay.

Clay, tries to use his quarterstaff to defend himself. As usual, he is not successful.

Initiative [1d6] = 6
Morr with Blessing [1d20+1] = 15+1 = 16, damage [1d6+2] = 6+2 = 8 Crud. There is no modifier on Morr right now - second time hitting the wrong macro... Please subtract 1 from to hit and dmg, and I'll delete that macro.
Sling [1d20] = 1, damage [1d4] = 2And wouldn't you know, I used the wrong macro for Clay, too. If you want to use that as a blundered attack, go ahead. Otherwise, you can reroll for Clay with a quarterstaff with his usual penalty to hit.
