Clay has a torch lit as well. He lit it just before the goblins were torched. (I don't see that I deducted it from his inventory, so I am doing that now.)

I love it when a map is available because I find I often misinterpret what GMs describe.

Yep! That looks correct.

Player mapping is both appreciated and encouraged. I'd recommend posting it just as you did - in the thread with a spoiler tag, since that helps when viewing on mobile devices. I'd really like to see adventurers sharing this when they return to town as well, posting completed records on the Maps thread. This helps continuity in the game world as PCs die and new PCs need to pick up where they left off. :)

Grizzly keeps moving, around the corner in the right tunnel. That hallway is also empty at the moment and more heavily travelled than the left-branch was, judging by the clearer pathways and lessened clutter. There is a door on the right side about twenty feet down. The hallway continues straight beyond the lamplight's reach.

Out of curiosity, what is the radius of light from our torch and lantern? From the last post it seems like we're using 60' vision, but I just noticed LL (and B/X) give oly 30'. I can't find anything mentioned in the house rules thread, so I thought I'd just ask.

Clay accompanies The Grizzly Woman and Huckleberry, providing torchlight. Using body language and a "guard" command, he instructs Morr to sniff the area for anything not of the group. I should have frozen one of the goblins to use as a guide. But you never know with these folk. They are so treacherous.

Baxtaw- Follows behind the group covering rear with his bow. He will use his elven sight to make sure there is no trouble.

I like the map. It helps with making plans and strategies.

The Grizzly Woman stops briefly at the door, to allow people the chance to listen for noises if they wish, and Morr to sniff for strange smells. If all is quiet, she motions with her arm and shrugs her shoulders to suggest, 'Shall we see what's inside?', and then makes a similar motion down the hall to suggest, 'Or shall we move on?'

Clay looks inquisitively at Morr to see if he senses anything ahead or behind the door.

Foxy O'Hare

"I would move on, a seek and destroy on the goblin chief and get hold of his crazy magicks. Doors could open up into a guard room or store cupboard. I trust the king resides in more fitting splendour than a stinking hallway."

Foxy is not averse to waiting if folk want to check the room out though.

Good question. We're staying with LL - candles illuminate a 5' radius; a Light spell has a 15' radius; a torch, lantern, or continual light has a 30' radius. I allow you to see things clearly in that range. I will often give "low light" information beyond that - how far to a wall, room dimensions, etc. - because we have a less iterative format for movement/discovery in play-by-post. So, I may tell you a hallway goes 60', but you may or may not notice detail features in that hallway in the 30-60' range. (Also of note, if in darkness, Elves and Dwarves have infravision to a 60' radius.)

The group proceeds down the hallway, finding a second wooden door on the right side 70' beyond the first, then seeing the top of a spiraling stairway leading downward at the hallway's end, 70' beyond that.

Morrs sniffs ahead, indicating both closed doors, that something is behind them. Advancing cautiously, the party hears the muffled sound of goblin voices behind the first door, harsh tones and harsher laughter, coupled with the thudding and clashing sounds of fighting.

The group chooses to bypass the doors, heading for the downward stairs. They seem to spiral endlessly with no exits found - at least seven layers of stone pass by as you spiral ever downwards. Finally you come to the bottom stair - a simple hallway stretches from the bottom stair forward in a straight line about 40', where in intersects a much larger hallway. The larger hallway is 20' across and 15' high, vaulted supports at regular intervals holding it all aloft. It slopes discernibly downward to your left and upwards to your right. You hear the clamor of goblinoid voices in each direction, knowing your lights will call attention to you immediately in the darkness should they grow closer.

(There will be a difficulty in mapping, as this is a 3D model. I'll indicate changes in vertical depth as "layers of stone" assuming that dwarves carve a layer/floor within a single layering of stone, not cutting across cleft lines for structural reasons.)

Baxtaw- Follows the others bypassing the doors. Motioning to shortbread to follow.

Shortbread stops at the door listening for any dwarven voices. My cousins may be in there.

Foxy O'Hare

"Can one of you goblin speakers creep forward and listen to the voices. We need to make out which corridor leads where. Listen out for words like King, High Priest, prisoners, experiments. Maybe even news of the battle out front." Foxy suggests and douses her lantern light to a minimum. She curses her lack of dark vision and thinks of her mage friend Idriss who had some facemask. That would have been a useful disguise here.

Can Shortbread tell us about how deep and far in we are compared to the palisade gates and the direction we travel?

Shortbread blushes as Foxy asks him to calculate the relative positioning of the different entrances within the volume of an entire mountain which took a half-day to circle. "I'm sorry, but... I'm really more of a baker than a miner, ma'am. This is a much larger dwarven hold than we were lead to expect."

I'll throw you a bone, as I thought I provided much more descriptive detail previously than I apparently did, and it has been eight RL months since you guys read it. :) On her last visit, Foxy entered through the front door and was marched a long time down a long sloping hallway until it terminated at the Goblin King's chamber (prodded with spears to ensure she didn't investigate side branches). On the way outshe was ambushed in the same long, sloping hallway on her way back to the front gates, the walk being so long along that hallway that she couldn't determine the distance forward to the doors or backward to the King. This hallway matches her recollection of that long, sloping hallway.

Bone accepted. Thanks! Clay wasn't on that trip,
so he's happy to follow along with Ms. O'Hare's memory.

Clay uses his torch to leave marks upon the rocks as they travel through the tunnels, particularly at junctions so the group can find their way out once their mission is accomplished.
