Castle Amber: an invitation to adventure...D&D 1st ed.
Re: Castle Amber: an invitation to adventure...D&D 1st ed.
I can include the Unearthed Arcana classes though I don't have access to the book, that went in a house move in 1992! So I'll download a pdf and work from that. I will close the recruiting for now otherwise the party will be too big to navigate through the corridors and rooms of the chateau without crowding each other out.
I will put up my house rules and normal stuff when the forum gets up. Thanks for the interest folks and happy adventuring.

Calling UA a "book" is slightly inaccurate. It was more a temporary collection of pages, destined to be secured together between a foldable hard cover with large rubber bands after approximately 3 months of light use.Spearmint wrote:I can include the Unearthed Arcana classes though I don't have access to the book, that went in a house move in 1992! My Unearthed Arcana is still all bound and together. Watch, I'll show you. First let me get on my gloves, open the hermetically sealed container, and slowly open the cover... oh crap.
Just kidding, mine is still in semi-usable condition, though admittedly I haven't opened it much. My 14yo daughter opened it a couple months ago and asked about playing a barbarian. I re-hid the book in my shelf.

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Oh come now Alethan has it about right some of my "books" are duct taped or packing taped spines pages randomly falling out, some taped back in, no rubber bands though. I must admit though some came in that condition when I was "given" them by a friend with an "extra" copy.
Others Ron I may have them like a comic book in protective plastic. Break out the rubber cloves and tweezers can't ruin the pages.

No, there was an actual binding issue with UA. It was a crap job. There are very few copies of that book where the binding held up. Mine failed after owning it for just a few months.
I still have it, of course. But I wasn't happy about spending that much money on a book just to have it fail.

Speaking as someone that worked in the printing industry for a decade... There are a million ways to get it wrong and only one way to get it right. It's more amazing that there is not more crap work that makes it out, no matter how much money is invested into a project.
