Re: Chapter 1: To seek a Great Perhaps
"Hah!" scoffs Butchness of Wrath at the suggestion they help the gargantuan baby.
"Heave!" she yells at Gwar! and the men struggling with the slab.
"Damn odd," mutters Gwar, looking at the mice and wooden soldiers beyond the door.
He remains behind the furniture defense, waiting to see how the soldiers fare.

The map grows, like a living thing...Deet peers over the crendenza, slack-jawed wonder on his face at the tableau. He uncertainly points his musket at one then the other side of the developing battle. He stays with Schroff and Odric behind Gwar, waiting to see what will happen...
Deet leans over Gwar's shoulder, humming a tune and mumbling, "See how they run... see how they... spread disease... We don't like rats, nope nope! We should help the toy men yep! Yep." Schroff nods emphatically, as Deet trains his musket on a rat.

Horton
Gah! Filthy thing! Should have rolled it on you, not off you and made applesauce!

An Audience with Horrible Babies
Horton thwacks at the horrible baby clamped onto his leg, and threatens to smush it, right before passing out.
Vanis swings his axe into the baby's jaw, causing it to release Horton's leg, and begin caterwauling anew. Horton's ankle, spit-soaked and bleeding freely, bends at a nasty angle.
Jake takes up a defensive position, ready to hold off the other encroaching babies.
The babies continue to advance!
One baby targets Vanis.
Two babies target Jake.
Two babies target the unconscious Horton.
Jake and Vanis may either roll STR for each baby attacking you, to shake them off before they can land a bite, or you can defend Horton from one baby each (auto success). You also get one attack, due to their slowness and clumsiness`.
What's this? Mystery Roll: [1d100] = 79 Oh, nothing, I'm sure.

The Nutcracker Suite
As the party watches, the rats scrabble up the barrier of furniture, ready to leap from the crest, only to be rebuffed by toy soldiers armed with wooden swords and broken cabinet doors used as tower shields. A soldier with a long curtain rod comes up behind the first wave of defenders and expertly uses it to tip an unbalanced rat over, sending it crashing off the barricade.
The rats are clearly more powerful than the soldiers, and do not seem hurt in the slightest by their blows, but the soldiers have numbers and discipline, and are clearly familiar with their foes. The repel attack after attack, holding their ground. It would appear to be a stalemate.
At a point when all three mice have been pushed off the barricade, the pause a moment, instead of immediately pressing forward. The seem to consider their options. One begins sniffing the air, it's wrinkled nose swiveling in the direction of the party at the doorway.

Re: Chapter 1: To seek a Great Perhaps
Hans proclaims while readying for an attack with his sword "Great, they've noticed us. We may yet have a battle here."
Kurt adds while readying his rifle"A battle of mice and men."
William holds lantern in one hand and sword in the other "Be at the ready." he warns the others standing around.

Re: Chapter 1: To seek a Great Perhaps
Brick dashes into the line of soldiers for cover and towards the "fool" door.
"I ONLY CAME HERE FOR THE VIRGINAL LOVE!", he cries as he leaps behind their lines.
Langston slowly backsteps into the soldiers defenses, spits into the palms of his hands and readies his ax.
Should one approach he will slug it with the full weight of his weapon.

Re: Chapter 1: To seek a Great Perhaps
Seeing that the nasty ratses are giving the adorable toy soldiers grief, Deet yells "DISEASE!" and pulls the trigger!
Deet fires his musket... Flash! Bang! Smoke! [1d8] = 7
Following his master's lead, Schroff barks loudly and scrambles over tables and chairs, launching himself through the air to sink his teeth into a (different) nasty rat!
Schroff bites! [1d6] = 4 Grrrrr!
Odric sighs and whips his sword in a circle, readying himself for the inevitable backlash.

Re: Chapter 1: To seek a Great Perhaps
Horton lies completely still, doing absolutely nothing outwardly.
Internally he seethes with resentment at the crime of charity and all of its ugly consequences. Self-recrimination plays a close second while exhaustion and futility stolidly bring up the rear as always.
(perhaps a hint in here that folks might want to protect themselves and not sacrifice for the fool that caused all of this to spiral out of control in the first place)

What's happening to Beaker and Mouse?
Re: Chapter 1: To seek a Great Perhaps
From their position at the far end of the Audience Chamber, Beaker and Mouse can see the fate befalling Jake, Vanis, and Horton, and hear the squeaks and shuffling of the rest of the party.

Gwar!, fighter, and Butchness of Wrath
"Fall back! The others are in trouble!" Gwar yells.
The big man grabs the slab. "Help put it back!"
After the slab door is shut, Gwar! and Butchness run over to the nursery to slay infants.

Re: Chapter 1: To seek a Great Perhaps
With Shaggy and Jake in the other room, it will be difficult to move the stone slab. If anyone would like to try, I'll allow up to four people to try STR saves. If there are less than three successes, the slab will slip and do damage.
Also, a few members of the party are now inside the room.
I'm waiting on Wizard Lizard's actions. If I haven't heard from him by this afternoon, I'll NPC his actions and move things forward.

The Nutcracker Suite
Hans, Kurt, and William are ready at the left door, still standing in the Putti Rotunda.
Brick and Langston have moved into the Barricaded Hall, on the soldier's side. Brick dashes towards the open door, but it is a considerable distance. He should be able to see what is through the door, next round, however. Langston takes a defensive stance.
Schroff the dog runs into the Barricaded Hall, but on the rat-side, fitting his jaws around a rat ankle. Deet fires at a different rat. The rat rears back in alarm, but it is hard to tell if it is actually injured. Odric readies himself.
GWAR! calls for a retreat, and attempts to man-handle the stone slab back into position, but will need help.
The first rat turns to attack...
1. Hans, 2. Kurt, 3. William, 4. Deet, 5. Odric, 6. GWAR!, 7. Butchness
Rat Target [1d7] = 7
The first rat turns to attack the Butchness of Wrath! Rat Bite [1d6] = 3
The second rat attacks the dog nipping its heels! Rat Bite [1d6] = 2 I don't immediately have Schroff's stats at hand.
The third rat attacks... Rat Target [1d7] = 7 Oh dear. Sensing weakness, the third rat pounces on the gravely wounded Butchness! Rat Bite [1d6] = 4 This takes her down to STR 3. Please roll under her reduced STR to avoid Critical Damage.
On the other side of the barricade, the toy soldiers begin to make an organized retreat back to the same door that Brick is headed to.
New round! Two rats are at the entrance to the Barricaded Hall, tearing into Butchness. The other remains in the Hall, distracted by Schroff.

An Audience with Horrible Babies
Despite his best efforts, Jake is unable to shake the sticky grip of two horrible babies.
Horrible Baby Bite: [1d4] = 2
Horrible Baby Bite: [1d4] = 4
Jake is reduced to exactly 0hp, which makes him the game's first recipient of a Scar!
NPC'd Vanis defends himself, shaking off a baby and easy scooting out of its grasp.
Vanis STR (11): [1d20] = 9
Horton is a feast for teething gums.
Horrible Baby Bite: [1d4] = 3
Horrible Baby Bite: [1d4] = 3
Down to STR 4.
Several more babies are crawling this way, but they are slow, and it will take them some time.
Shaggy Beaker and Mouse watch from a discreet distance.

"Aarghh! Fuck!" Butchness of Wrath yells in pain as rats tear her up.
"Betsy!" yells Gwar!, a touching tone of caring in his voice.
It turns to a growl as he hews at a rat with his sword.
If Butchness is able, she'll whack the other rat with her mace.

Re: Chapter 1: To seek a Great Perhaps
Sorry, I had some Internet issues, it's fixed now.
Vanis defends himself, shaking off a baby and easy scooting out of its grasp and yells with an angrier and angrier tone, inherited from a drunkard mariner of a father, probably.
"You goddamn shitcaked...thing! Get off me!"
Next action will be whacking the babies trying to eat poor Horton : [1d6] = 4

Horton passively exudes his final defense: making the taste of his flesh mirror his sour disposition.
