Tyrrell

Tyrrell replies to the mage at the adventurers table. "Indeed a man could make his fortune just taking green skin scalps if that is all he had vision for. Such a short sighted vision though, don't you agree Mr Carchannoi? A man ought to have a higher vocation. Your caravan comrades have departed in ventures new yet you chose to ride alone. What undiscovered knowledge or relic do you seek out here?"

"My reputation precedes me," smirks the elf. "I was engaged in a little diplomacy with some goblins. I have...ingratiated myself...with the leader of a certain warband. It so happens, incidentally, that her tower sits atop some treasure-filled catacombs."

Tyrrell

"Catacombs which you have yet to peruse I wonder. Ah, a goblin warband but not this goblin king of the Rescue song. I heard the guards as they settled Gaul chased this king from his hole and they fled south and west. In fleeing it seems his authority diminishes too."

Tyrrell will observe this elf, taking a measure of his attire (leather armour or chain, sword at his left hip or right...both hips? Could be ambidextrous. Does he have a book with runes and arcane symbols on, wears a religious insignia. Tyrrell is one of these folk who ' hear all, see all, say nothing').

"How are the ogres? Did you comfort their mourning too? Did their lumbering bulk help ingratiate you to the chieftess? From the song and testimony of your previous expedition it seemed you stood in as an advocate for them, when others would have shed their blood. I guess leaving Gaul so soon on the south road again alone, was a ruse to meet up with them again? ...please correct me if I am wrong, to assume is to make an 'ass out of u and me', or just me."

To Dorvath, Tyrrell says, "Perhaps you young mage can learn more from Carcharmoi than having your head stuck in the sages' tomes."

Carchannoi is unarmored, with a warhammer, and in non-wizardly utilitarian clothing; he looks pale, thin, and frail.

"It's a long story," says the elf. "Perhaps you two wouldn't mind accompanying me on my next expedition?"

The door to the tavern opens slowly and a pale elf steps inside, knocking the dust from his leggings. He peers into the gloom a moment until he spots the bar and makes his way towards it.

"A mug of ale, if you please. I'm suddenly quite thirsty. Funny, that. Name's Gaeron. You're Hyde, are you not? I believe we have some old aquaintances. I'm actually distantly related to an elf with the oddly human name of Eduard, though I myself never had the honour of knowing him personally. That was another time and place, for sure. Listen to me prattle on, I'm keeping you from honest work. I beg your pardon."

He thanks the barkeep for the ale and half turns towards the room, mug in hand.

Dorath says to Tyrrell

And you sir would perhaps learn more from the elf if you asked better questions and made fewer assumptions.

Dorath to Carchannoi

I would be quite please to join you, I have had a long and uneventful journey and would appreciate seeing more of the area. I can't promise to be as inquisitive as this gentleman but I can tell a tale or two around the fire and am always up for something that may prove to be exciting.

Dorath to Both

Please, allow me to buy you each a drink and perhaps we can discuss things in a more civil nature than interrogation?

Tyrrell

"I must pay my respects to his honour, the Bishop first but I see no problem in journeying out with an experienced guide like yourself Charchannoi, though I am ill equipped for rough camping. Where do you propose to go, back to this tower of the chieftess or further afield?"

Tyrrell will look at the map, it is not very filled in.

"Have you been to the forest borders?"

"I have not," says Carchannoi. "If you two gentlemen were to accompany me into the chieftainess' dungeon, it would be most lucrative. There are fabulous riches below. I must warn you, however, that I seem to have made powerful enemies in goblin-dom, and you may be set upon if you choose to accompany me."

Gaeron sees the three adventurers with their heads together at the map table and sidles over, ale in hand.

"Pardon me, I couldn't help noticing you all from across the way there. Planning something, are you? If you don't mind me saying so, I'm a deft hand in a scrap - and also reasonably versed in matters of the arcane. Would you have want or need of a fourth for whatever shenanigans you are looking forward to? I'm currently...at liberty, shall we say."

He stands there with an expectant look on his face, his eyes moving back and forth from one to the next.

To Carchannoi

I will join you. Lucrative is always a word that I like to hear. As for the other issues, that can be dealt with as it comes, we'll burn those bridges when we get to them.

To Gaeron

Greetings friend. As we are all strangers at the table, I see no reason as to why we shouldn't add another. As long as these two fellows don't have an issue with it, I say well met.

New expedition created. Post there that you're accompanying, and as soon as you wrap up conversation for the evening here, you can set out (leaving in the morning of May 24).

"Hah? HAH?" Hyde says, pouring the ale for the new elf. "Eduard? I knew him!" he exclaims. "He was a good pal, yeah. Any distant cousin a couple times removed of Eduard is a... distant cousin... erm..." He just trails off and looks confused. Unable to maintain such intense thought for too long, he abruptly grins, showing all his snaggly teeth. "Welcome to Gaul, Gaeron! You can fight goblins and orcs, here, too. Just don't die. That was sad." He nods firmly, sliding the ale across the bartop to him.

Tyrrell

"I will pray over you offer Charchannoi. There are duties I must attend to first, I am a man under authority after all. Though seeking out these kings and chieftains and making pacts of trade si we can further stretch the borders of Gaul in peace is a noble cause. If I can obtain the Bishops' blessing I will come. Can you show me where exactly on the map is this chieftess seat, I need to know how long I will be away from my chapel".

Tyrrell will straighten his collar, stand saluting with a click of his jack boots and leave forthwith making notes from the details Charchannoi provides.

Blackjack Amistad

Visits the tavern, the Bard is playing a new song, exalting River Ranger Alcide and Amistad commissions a tribute to the expedition in the form of a carved bronze bowl, much like a jack o'lantern pumpkin for Halloween only in the shape of a cabbage headed river troll. It has all our names on it, Earc Orctongue, Amistad, Alcide and Achaedany. He would like to give it to Mr & Mrs Frogmorton who he has invited to the tavern.

Song and story write up in tribute pages

Amistad also invites Hickory and over luncheon of fine meat and wine asks him about recommending a good foreman for the new Lion brand logging yard being constructed at the ford site.

[3d6] = 9 charisma roll check

He would like to commission some river blue dyed leather armour, emblazoned with lion logo and with lion-mane style fur hoods for future uniforms for loggers at the site. He shows a leather armour piece and material bought at the market.

"I'm thinking any foreman ought to wear something a bit better though, I could order a fancy scale mail suit, made extra large to fit your girdle if I can convince you to be released from the drabbery of Gaul "

He also asks Mrs Frogmorton about stitching and catering advice.

Earc Orctongue

Earc descends the stairs from his room on May 27th, having rested for the night after spending two days studying and inscribing new spells into his spell book.

He orders a good meal and gives the innkeep a platinum coin to cover the meal and his room expenses for an extended period of time.

OOC: I have to admit, I haven't been paying attention to room and board costs when in town and to maintain Earc's room at the inn.

Platinum deducted from inventory.

Mr. and Mrs. Frogmorton do make the journey from the river ford to the tavern at his request and are pleased to share in the celebration about the end of the river trolls. They tell the Bard what a trouble the beasts have been and their gratitude for their demise, confirming they saw the creatures burn upon the adventurer's pyres.

Politely accepting the hideous bronze troll's head, they in turn donate it back to the Tavern rather than taking the hollow bowl sculpture home with them, saying it is better served here for those who appreciate such... fine things. Mrs. Frogmorton fills it with toffees, however, and promises to keep doing so in her gratitude. Hyde puts it on the Adventurer's table, saying, "Hah! HAH! Candy in it's like sweets for sweetmeats. HAH!""

Tribute to Alcide paid for. Tribute to the group paid for. Both added to the tributes thread.
Spearmint wrote:Amistad also invites Hickory and over luncheon of fine meat and wine asks him about recommending a good foreman for the new Lion brand logging yard being constructed at the ford site.
(Two good meals and bottle of wine = 3gp, please deduct)

Hickory is pleased both at the fine treatment and to see the success of Amistad's efforts. "None better than Godric for such a thing, I'd say," he offers between bites. "An honest fellow, with potential. The men grativate to him, you know, even though he doesn't have the best axe-arm himself."

They send for Godric, who joins you for dinner and hears your offer. He's a tow-headed young man, decent and modest in an appealing way. He lacks a lumberjack's arms despite his work on the crews but seems curious about the ways of all things; he already has some ideas for running a proper mill yard. He listens to your proposal and nods solemnly. "I'd be happy to assist, Blackjack. I'm sure we can get some men for your efforts. A good man hungers for honest work."

Hyde grins ear to ear.
So glad you'll be stayin', Master Earc. We'll keep the room ready for ya, hot baths and privacy, too."

A platinum secures the room and common meals for 25 days. If you aren't there the whole time (such as if you leave on an expedition) he'll up it to good meals when you return.

Room paid until June 22nd for Earc.
