Expedition - Markd/On A Mission From Baudh - 08 May 2021

[Marullus]

Olaf takes a seat next to a robed young man on the bench, settling in to watch the proceedings. The spectral young man doesn't move or acknowledge him in any way, watching the proceedings. The Clerical Judge waits, staring at Olaf for almost two minutes, then resumes the court proceedings.

Lawful:

"Are there no more interruptions, then? Good. We'll continue."

Bandy Sandybanks

Bandy looks around at the other creatures on the benches, trying to take a read on them. His eyes go wide at what he sees...

"We should not spend much more time in this room," he whispers to the others. "The ogre there really does not like us. He wants to eat us, in fact. I'm not sure what that equates to when he's a ghost, but I'd rather not find out what happens if that judge gets interrupted again. I think something bad. I'm going... that way."

He then quietly moves to the open archway in the northwest corner of the room to see what is beyond there, hoping not to disturb the proceedings in the process.

Markd will move to where he can hopefully watch the proceedings and the halfling at the same time, at least through Bandy's initial investigations.

Olaf sits next to the young man, listening to the Clerical Judge oversee the proceedings in their foreign tongue. Irving loiters behind the benches as well, while Markd watches warily to keep an eye on Bandy, too.

The handsome dark-haired man in knightly raiment and wearing a gold circlet on his head finishes and takes his seat, done testifying for the moment.

Lawful:

"Please, I beg you. I love her," are written in his every expression.

The robe-wearing dark-haired man with a gold circlet (he is the first man to approach in the fountain room) is called upon by the judge. He looks conflicted, and makes a request. The Judge's anger rises and he pounds his gavel. The man has a pained look and rises, giving a stoic speech while the judge nods.

Lawful:

"Please, don't make me do it again," is the essence of his request. He looks distraught and pained, acting as if compelled. From his stoic mannerisms, he is presenting evidence. He is speaking of magic. He is revealing something about the woman and the third man.

The third man, golden haired with devastating good looks that he's quite aware he has, is the second one who was turned away by the woman in the fountain room. He remains in his seat, watching this part of the proceeding and looking pleased.

The blonde woman quietly resumes weeping throughout the testimony. (Picture)

Bremen emerges from the room on the left, holding his lit torch, where he had lingered and joins the group. Bandy also returns abruptly, limping quickly with one boot missing and one still worn, exposing his curly-haired hobbit foot. He does his best to ensure the trial is not disturbed, scooting awkwardly back to the group, his lit candlestick in his hands.

Bandy Sandybanks

Bandy rushes over to Bremen, grabs the torch from his hand in a panic, and holds it down by his foot to give it better light.

Panting, he says, "Green slime... in the other room..."

Assured that he removed his boot quickly enough and that there is no slime on his foot, he hands the torch back to Bremen with a quiet thanks.

"Aside from the slime," he says, catching his breath, "There's a huge room that way - bigger'n I can see by... er... torch light." He glances awkwardly at his candlestick. "Lots of doors. Even a stairway going up. If we can kill the slime with fire, then it might be worth checking out."

[Keehnelf]

Irving frowns. "We need to do something. I think the two men she refused conspired against her to have her killed." He speaks as though something could, indeed, be done to avert events that may have transpired generations ago.

[Zhym]

"Shhhh," chides Olaf, quietly. He continues to watch the proceedings, hoping they'll be done well before dark.

Look at that smug look on that third one. It seems to me that he might've set up the fair lady because she spurned him. Whatever the case, it don't involve us. And who in the hells knows how long this proceeding has gone on or is going to take? These are ghosts. They've been arguing for days, at least, remember? If they won't take a break then we shouldn't wait.

As long as they're occupied, let's go check out the area Bandy found. Maybe it leads up into those guarded mausoleums. Checking with Bandy to be sure fire will kill the slime-stuff, Captain Bremen retrieves 2 flasks of oil and 2 torches from Piety and carefully heads through the archway. That's six flasks of oil, total. And six torches.

If the slime is near tot he room with the proceedings, we can use torches, but if it is far enough away, we can just toss oil on it and burn the stuff up at once.

Bandy takes a flask and one of the torches.

"So douse it in oil and light it up?"

Noting the other conversation, he adds, "Yeah, the third guy thinks she got what she deserved. I can see it in his face."

Readying the flask to throw, he looks to see if anyone accompanies him through the arch...

FYI. Captain Bremen decided to avoid looting the body of the man on the floor in the other room. After seeing Kellstrom's bones rip through his flesh and then get mutilated by a gargoyle, he is thinking better of it. There's probably something useful in his satchel, and he has a short sword... If you all think it might be worth it, we can head back in at some point.

FYI. Captain Bremen decided to avoid looting the body of the man on the floor in the other room. After seeing Kellstrom's bones rip through his flesh and then get mutilated by a gargoyle, he is thinking better of it. There's probably something useful in his satchel, and he has a short sword... If you all think it might be worth it, we can head back in at some point.

When nobody immediately offers to follow him to burn the green slime, Bandy finds his eyes wandering towards the ghostly woman. He studies her for a moment, trying to see if he can understand her motives and intentions better than the others can.

Markd will follow once Bandy tries again.

Irving frowns again, lost in thought. "I think...I think the guy in robes is a wizard. I think he was getting her in trouble for using magic, but it was really him. And that's his body in the other room. Maybe this whole ghost thing is his fault. I know necromancy is pretty bad stuff back in my homeland."

[Keehnelf]

Almost immediately he bursts out:"That other tomb with the skeletons! I bet if we look inside, he's what we'look find inside!" He thinks for a moment. "Wait, never mind. That's his corpse in the other room. I wish I knew a story that I could relate better to this, to figure out what really is going on and what we need to do."

[Marullus]

Olaf waits patiently, watching the courtroom drama, while Irving frets about the impending fate of the already-dead fair maiden.

Bandy leads quietly back to the archway on the far-right wall, holding his candlestick above, limping awkwardly with one bare foot and one booted one. Markd and Bremen follow, holding the other torches and oil flasks that Bremen produced.

Bandy pauses at the archway, pointing about 15' ahead. "There. See it? Green slime." Bremen and Markd peer into the darkness beyond the candlelight, but can't really discern anything there.

Olaf continues to watch the proceedings. He tries not to fidget so the magistrate won't yell at him again.

Snapped out of his reverie, Irving approaches those responding to the green slime threat. "I'd be happy tossing some oil on that thing, but I'm probably better at hitting it with a torch once it's wet." he offers, extending a hand.
