Expedition - Markd/On A Mission From Baudh - 08 May 2021

Greetings, fine fellow followers of the mighty Baudh. We are on a mission to honor him and are glad to have met you. I apologize if we are interrupting a ceremony. I am unfamiliar with this particular venue.

Captain Bremen lowers his crossbow and backs out of the room amicably. He moves swiftly toward Piety (which should be in the room with the weeping woman but if not, he will be careful to avoid the star on the floor). He will dig out Kell's holy symbol of Baudh's and bring it to Markd to show the ghosts, leaving his crossbow ous idea the doorway before reentering.

Seeing the others stow their weapons, but not understanding anything being spoken, Bandy likewise sheathes his sword.

"What's going on," he whispers as he follows the Captain in backing out of the room.

[Marullus]

Everyone lowers their weapons, communicating their apology. Bremen returns with Kellstrom's holy symbol and holds it up for display. The clerical officiant seems appeased, returning his attention to the other spectral beings before him. He directs the man in knightly raiment to continue, which he does.

The group finds themselves awkwardly standing at the rear of the chamber, being ignored by those conducting their business and receiving dubious, though perhaps hungry, looks from the others in the benches.

Captain Bremen
While fetching the holy symbol, the Captain explains to Bandy that the spectral beings are real ghosts and they were angry about our weapons being drawn. Looks to be some sort of arbitration going on... I have no idea about the ghosts on the bench though. Not much of this is making sense.

Once back in the room, The Captain edges around to the left - away from the bench with the kobold and ogre ghosts - and attempts to per through the corner door if it is open. If it is not, he will check it as described before. If he draws the attention of the magistrate again, or if any of the other ghosts look s at him in a menacing fashion or rise, he will hold his hands out in supplication again and return to the others while trying to convey (in lawful) that he would love to know what this place is and that he and his party would like assistance with their quest.

Is there any sense of how long these proceedings will take?

Bremen circles around to the left, arriving at the door in the far corner. It is a sturdy wooden door, closed but without a lock. He listens at the door and hears nothing on the other side. The spectral beings are consumed in their own deliberations and take no notice of your movement. Those on the benches watch you intently, but remain in their seats.

Captain Bremen
Taking a moment to think about the layout of the rooms so far, he wonders if the doors to the right of the group might lead back into the area with the skeleton warriors. Captain Bremen casually walks past his fellow adventurers and inspects the door to their right. He checks it carefully for anything resembling springs, triggers, etc, and then listens. If he hears nothing, he will place a hand on the door handles and, as long as the ghosts seem unperturbed, he will open it a few inches and look in.

Technically speaking, Bremen lit a torch before we entered this room, so it has been burning for approximately 15 minutes already. Torch deducted from his sheet.

Markd will follow, bow out and ready.

Bremen leaves the door on the far wall, returning back to the party and carrying his torch. He casually walks right to see the other doorways on the wall they entered through. There is a short stretch of wall (10'), then next doorway. It is an open archway with no door, revealing a hallway which extends 30' before turning to the left. From here he can see the third doorway as well (which is also separated by a short stretch of wall (10') from where he now stands. It is a simple wooden door without a visible lock.

The proceedings continue, abruptly interrupted by loud yelling and outbursts. The second man (from the previous room) is testifying and has a rather smug and lascivious expression as he says something that has caused offense. The woman shrieks in horror while the man in knightly raiment rises abruptly from his seat and begins shouting. The man in robes (first man from previous room) sits quietly, contemplating his navel. The clerical judge pounds a gavel over them for several minutes trying to quiet them down. With all this commotion, they apparently don't notice Markd's raised bow.

I've got no idea. What do you folks want to do? Is almost noon and we only have a bunch of platters to show for our troubles.

Markd keeps his bow pointed down, but nocked. (he doesnt want to alarm or show aggression, just ready to react.

You guys make this hard. This is like trying to understand the storyline of a Telemundo novella when you don't speak Spanish. There's lots of passionate speech, a girl crying, men outraged, and no way to understand beyond the emotive.

Keep going? If so, do we bring the animals? Which doorway?

Trying a different tool to help make sure the doorways are understood.

Bandy quickly pulls a candle out of his bag, sticks it in his candlestick, and lights it off of the Captain's torch. Then he whispers, "Be right back; stay here. And... watch them." he nods his head at the ghosts and quietly slips down the passage through the archway to see where it leads.

[Alethan]

Bandy returns as quietly as he left.

"There's a door around the corner there. Leads to the room with the skeletons in it. They're all ready to go. I say we avoid that passage for now."

Markd asks,
Think it is better to open that third door over there, then?

Agreeing that it is best to avoid the skeleton warriors again, Captain Bremen walks to the door he was at before. He listens again and, barring any noises, he prods it open with his crossbow (which he is holding by the body so it does not seem a threat). On the way there, he keeps a watchful eye on the ghosts. If they seem irritated about their passing through or opening the door, he will pause and smile, using body language to convey (in Lawful) that he is just curious.

For record keeping's sake, Captain Bremen has his backpack with him, unless someone else indicates that they are bringing the pack animals, in which case he is happy to store the pack on one of them.

Bandy moves behind the Captain, ready to support him if necessary.

Bremen returns to the door in the left-hand corner from where you entered, he and Bandy looking at the spectres as he depresses the latch to open the plain wooden door. The deliberations do not stop, but the lady ghost turns to watch as you draw her attention. Bremen pauses and smiles, conveying his inoffensiveness. She does not seem hostile.

Bremen opens the door and steps forward to light the room before him with his torch. The chamber is large and square, carved of similar sandstone as the previous room. The torchlight sheds illumination almost to the middle from the doorway, the rest still in shadow. A large and engraved sarcophagus is on a dais in the center of the room, the details indiscernible from this distance. Several smaller stone tombs rest perpendicular to the wall to your left. The weeping woman rises from the proceedings, drifting over towards you slowly.
