[ARCHIVE] 02 - The Hunt Begins
Re: 02 - The Hunt Begins
Vax shrugs his shoulders and gets down to start digging where he detected the magic; keeping his staff very close if needed. To Tomas he replies; "I think with the village nearby; if this is a wicked enchantment; perhaps we can handle it before any more come to harm. If it is perhaps a boon instead; then it could aid us in our struggle against the gnolls."

Assuming you are using the shovel you found, no roll is necessary.max_vale wrote: OOC: Not sure if any kind of roll is needed for the digging?

Re: 02 - The Hunt Begins
Shaking his head Yorick says, “get it done quickly so we can be upon our way. We are here to protect the townsfolk so we need to locate Griznak’s camp. Preferably before nightfall.”
Re: 02 - The Hunt Begins
Embiri moves back down the ridge and his backpack down once more. He watches the half-orc dig, obviously interested what will be unearthed. He will occasionally move loose rocks or clumps of dirt from the immediate area in an effort to give the priest more room to dig quickly.
While standing there, he ponders the bones.
Don't know if this helps me at all, but I speak the language of the fey [Sylvan] and I'm an illusionist. Can I think of anything these bones would be used for, ritual or summoning-wise?

Tomas sits down and sulkily pokes at the ground with a stick as he watches the cleric dig the hole. Don't want to keep the bones that are already dug up, they said. We don't want to be grave robbers they said. Now here we are digging up another grave most likely. he though to himself.

If people say their characters are attempting things, I assume it's happening if it is legal. If you would like to choose what happens as a group, we need a way to do this fairly and in such a way that doesn't stagnate the game if people aren't engaged. I am up for suggestions (and would prefer we have that discussion in the "Suggestion Box" for organization purposes.) Cool? Since we are just getting into the groove: I wouldn't mind reversing actions if majority rules, but I wouldn't want to do this a lot going forward.

As Embiri gathers some rocks and clumps of dirt from where Vax is digging to move it away, he responds to the wizard with a good-natured smile. "No one placed Filibert in charge, Luna. Since he seems to be good at scouting, I suggested that he, well... scout. Ahead of us. For danger." He then gestures with a pointy rock at the half-orc digging a hole in the ground. Some dust and debris falling from his hands catches on his traveling clothes and spatters his boots."Then our divining priest here was concerned about leaving a magical aura in the ground without discovering the nature of it, thinking it may help us, so we acquiesced to his suggestion - if it can be done quickly. No one has commanded anything from you, as far as I know. You're your own wizard - do what you will. You are welcome to scout ahead yourself, or dig a hole... or neither, if you choose."jdluna wrote:"Who died and left Filibert in charge? I thought we were going to let this sleeping dog lay." "Aye, well if he's digging, we may as well help and not just watch."
Arot sets to help with his hatchet if he doesn't see another shovel laying about.
"Any idea why them bones look more like ivory, then bone?" He says as he helps dig.
Arot is suspicious of digging up "magic" bones, and is watching for anything out of the ordinary as they dig.

Tomas continues to watch the others dig in the dirt as his hands are far to valuable and delicate for such crude labor.

"Who is we exactly? There were a few of us that aren't comfortable with digging up the dead, but you ventured forth anyway without consideration. Maybe a better approach would be to try to convince us that this is the best thing for the party instead of bullying your way through it."[/dialog]moorcrys wrote:As Embiri gathers some rocks and clumps of dirt from where Vax is digging to move it away, he responds to the wizard with a good-natured smile. Re: 02 - The Hunt Begins
Vax and Arot unearth a small pearlescent exoskeleton. It appears to resemble some sort of humanoid with grasshopper-like qualities (antennae, 2 hinged legs, 2 human-like but naturally armored arms). You also unearth a tiny fiddle, appropriate for the size of the creature whose remains you have discovered.
These remains are different, as all of the bones in the bag just appear to be miniature human-like creatures along with delicate dragonfly-like wings which are broken and crumbled.

Re: 02 - The Hunt Begins
"Let's not bicker and argue over who dug up who...especially since the digging already been done." says the bard as he gets up and walks over to the hole.
"Well those are interesting bones. I wonder what sort of creature they belong ...oh, a musical instrument." he exclaims as he bends down to pick it up. Shaking the dirt from it he examines the fiddle closely to see if it still might be functional.

Re: 02 - The Hunt Begins
Vax thanks Arot for the help and then as they unearth thier findings; he takes a moment to wonder over the skeleton and then seems to shake his head and he says a quick prayer to ensure that the spirit of whatever utilized this skeleton was still at peace and not upset by this unearthing. With a quick; "Well, it was either the instrument or the skeleton that was enchanted; and if it was the skeleton, I think it best that we leave it in the earth and rebury it. As the resident musical expert; I'll leave it to you to determine what, if any; magical abilities that instrument possesses."
With that; the Half Orc carefully goes about reburying the skeleton*.
*OOC: Assuming of course, no one stops him!

Re: 02 - The Hunt Begins
Arot thinks burying the body is a good idea and helps with that task as well. Watching the bard fiddle with the dirty instrument, he says "If you ever have cause to bury me, put my axe with me, not some fiddle."

Re: 02 - The Hunt Begins
I don't normally think it is cool to take control of characters as a GM, but this seems too good to pass up. You've really done it, this time!Dogma wrote:... Shaking the dirt from it he examines the fiddle closely to see if it still might be functional.
Tomas cleans, handles, inspects the tiny fiddle. It appears to be a miniaturized instrument perfect for someone 1.5-2 feet tall (almost like a large doll toy or a smaller version of a children's toy instrument.) It seems to be very finely crafted, and looks to be in working order. When he plucks the strings to see if it is still in tune, everyone in the party who is within hearing distance feels very strange. It is if a tickle inside of them is stirred when they hear the simple plucky notes.
Everyone stops for a minute, looks at each other as if to say "Did you feel that?" or "Did that just happen?"
Tomas smiles, picks up the bow from the grave and knocks the dirt off of it. He attempts to play a simple nursery rhyme tune, though his larger hands appear to have trouble with it. Even though the song sounds woefully out of sorts due to his larger hands having difficulty producing the proper notes, the tune has an effect on the party.
Charisma Saving Throws:
Filbert: [1d20+2] = 4+2 = 6 FAIL
Yorick: [1d20+3] = 18+3 = 21 PRIME SUCCESS
Arot: [1d20+1] = 8+1 = 9 FAIL
Tomas: [1d20+5] = 5+5 = 10 PRIME FAIL

Alias: [1d20] = 1 FAIL
Embiri: [1d20+2] = 18+2 = 20 PRIME SUCCESS
Vax: [1d20] = 15 FAIL
Luna: [1d20+2] = 9+2 = 11 PRIME FAIL
Yorick and Embiri feel strange and stand in amazement, looking at each other from time to time as they watch the members of their party begin to uncontrollably dance and laugh -- they are unable to stop them and just stand slack-jawed in amazement. Tomas seems to be enchanted, and cannot stop playing the fiddle for 5 straight minutes. About 2 minutes into the song, Arot and Alias lock arms and spin around as the others in the party gather around them clapping in time to the tune. After the spin, the rest of the party performs a seemingly choreographed Irish-style jig (think "Lord of the Dance").
After Tomas stops playing the party immediately stops, looks around at each other and start to feel rather ill for a second and they try to catch their breath. Suddenly, everyones thoughts erupt with the sound of seemingly thousands of children laughing. After a few seconds of this disorienting effect, the sky around you seems to grow dark, and the laughter distorts to a low singular growling voice and asks: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!??!?"
In short, as a DM I know used to say: "You f*cked with the fey... they f*ck back."

What do you do?

Re: 02 - The Hunt Begins
Filibert, already dizzy from dancing, falls to the ground in terror. "What did you do?!" he shrieks at Tomas. He finally manages to get on all fours and starts scrambling up the hill, looking for something to hide behind.
