Part 8: Once more unto the Barrowmaze
Re: Part 8: Once more unto the Barrowmaze
Grigg
"What a Barrowmaze baptism. That was hard grim work."Grigg finds a dry stone to sit on. He will dress his wounds with a few linen bandage's. "perhaps my eagerness to uncover mysteries got the better of me, dragging one of those back to town don't seem so clever now."

Simoni comforts Grigg. "It was nice of you to offer to take them back to town. You couldn't know they would be so rude. Let me help you with those wounds."

Milo retrieves what spent arrows he can find and searches the zombies for treasure.

You can recover any arrows that did not hit the zombies. As for treasure, they have none.Zhym wrote:Milo retrieves what spent arrows he can find and searches the zombies for treasure.

Peaches will also recover any sling stones that she can. "Well that was a heck of a thing," she says, wiping some zombie grime on her wizard robe. "Everybody OK?"

Grigg
Still sore and patched up, Grigg wipes the blood and gore away from his sword and clothes. "unless any want to revisit that Barrow, let's press on".Grigg scrawls a few notes in the journal, marking discoveries and events. Lighting a torch for an extra sense of security to ward the gnats and other critters away, Grigg will take his place in the MO.

Pyrrhic shakes his head. "They used to go down easier than that back home. Let that be a reminder to us that fell magics are at work here, and to watch ourselves out here."
Pyrrhic harvests what arrows he can and rejoins the group for the trek.

Bronn retrieves his dropped bow and returns to the group.
"Aye, these were tougher than they looked. I wonder what's got them riled up out here? Let's stay on guard, I'm sure there will be more of the same."

You are undisturbed as you continue the way to the main barrow which houses the entrance to the maze below. Both the room with the tripod and the room below appear undisturbed from the last time you were here. You have both the map you have been making along the way and one of the maps Grigg discovered that is from this area.
Where do you wish to explore?

Grigg
After looking at the two maps, Grigg makes the following recommendation, "why don't we spike shut these two doors on the immediate south of the corridor. Looking at the map it may secure the way from creatures sneaking upon us from the rear. Wise to limit the ways we can be attacked and create choke points and bottlenecks. It just leaves the only entrance (known) in this section as the eastern door at the end."
Grigg looks at the others, "any of you guys heard of the Green March?"

Bronn shrugs, noncommittal.
"An interesting concept. Given that I barely have a few coins to rub together, this venture hasn't exactly proved itself lucrative. Finding people willing to risk fighting off zombies like we just did is going to be an expensive proposition."
He furrows his brow a moment. "Still, the core idea is a sound one. Render the explored areas here inhospitable for the present occupants. I wonder if someone of a clerical bent could help us in that regard? Spells, charms, or other projects that might ward off the walking dead and such. Worth looking into."

"There's easier ways to earn a copper than standing guard in places where the dead walk," counters Milo. "Trust me, I've tried most of 'em. Besides, the more people we hire, the more we have to pay. If we find lots of shiny shiny gold, we can distribute some of it to suckers who will guard rooms for us. But for now? Let's just press on. An' since, despite long years of trying, I still ain't trained my nose to smell gold, I've got no preferences on which way we enter."

"I spent years in the militia guarding the townsfolk who could barely survive if the crops that year didn't yield enough. It doesn't sit right with me to lead the poor to their doom for the promise of a few coin. Though, if we could find some spells or charms to keep them out," Pyrrhic nods Bronn's direction "or find some trained fighting men who know what they're up against, then I think that would be a decent idea."

"There's plenty of wizardy spells that can seal off places we've explored," says Peaches, "but I don't know any of them. I'm more of a 'shoot first, think later' type of wizard.
"Perhaps the Barrowmaze is hiding some of those spells in its depths....?"

The treasures of Barrowmaze await below.

Grigg
"Did you ever meet the tentacled beast that ate Galstaff?"Grigg asks, referring to some graffiti. Moving through the entrance room into the hallways he gestures with a torch."Trap and skeleton room that way, debris behind this door, rats in the next. This room on the left shows a secret chamber. Can I suggest we use that room if we ever need a place to hide. Just so you know where to find each other. Better check no one has taken up residence since you've been away." Grigg will move down the hallway to stand listening at the door.

Bronn stacks up with the others behind Grigg.
"Let's be careful not to overlook anything between the two maps. We're ready to enter once you give the all clear."

Grigg
If the room is dead quiet inside, (pun intended), Grigg will step into the room and check out how the secret door operates. This being his first venture into the Barrowmaze he wants to get a feel of the rooms explored so far.
"What were those goblinoid creatures you faced further down the hallway? Scouts for a larger tribe or tomb raiders like us? And your little wooden toothed friend, got back to the village and took off?"Grigg tries to engage the others in understanding the history of their adventures.

Which room? There is one on the party's map and one on the map you obtained.Stirling wrote:If the room is dead quiet inside, (pun intended), Grigg will step into the room and check out how the secret door operates.
