Hello fellow gamers

#1 Post by Stirling »

Hello Fellow Gamers,

have been looking to get back into some decent RPg after several years away from the scene (read work and family into that), anyway thought it time to brush up on my skills, wipe the rust of the old sword and study those old tomes again! A bit of a newbie to playing by post but would be interested in joining some D&D campaign if you can cope with someone brought up on the old red box set and those early modules of the 80's!

Blessings from Scotland

Welcome Stirling!! Greetings from the USA to Scotland.

There are games, I'm not sure in what manner of start ups we have, but there are definitely folks who can feed the red box hunger you have.

If you haven't already, take a peek here: viewforum.php?f=21 for the games that are being run. Also, figure someone will come along to guide you to a game as well.

Well met and welcome!!

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Old redbox is what we like around here, Stirling. There are several DCC, B/E, 1e, OSRIC, and 2e games currently active on the site. I think even one 2.5e <shudder> game...

Anyway, you are most welcome on the Unseen Servant!

If you haven't already, this thread...

viewforum.php?f=33

... is a great place to start for most of your forum-related questions, like setting signatures, adding piccies to your profile, etc.

Hey there Stirling! I'm curious....which "Red Box" are you referring to? Moldvay's or Mentzer's? (Moldvay has a picture from Erol Otus, I think...with a Warrior with a spear and a Wooden Shield and a Green Dragon rising out of a pool of water with a Lady in the background....Mentzer's has a Larry Elmore picture with a Fighter with Sword and Shield and a Red Dragon on a hoard of treasure).

My first set was the Mentzer set; bought in 85 or 86....and I always thought this was what people were talking about when they said "Red Box". In the past few years; I've learned that quite a few people mean the Moldvay set......I'm just curious as to which you meant!

Welcome aboard!

Thanks guys for all your welcomes, am currently in living in the west of Scotland, small hamlet/village named Fuinary (famed only for a place to send off dissenters, criminals and landless crofters to the 'new'world) renovating big old church house in whose garden some church of scotland reverend used to preach and hold school under the big oak out back. Well there you go!

Am new to the PbP world on computors so forgive me now for any errors and slowness in organising stuff if I join a game. Do remember playing some of the modules you have like the slaver seris, giants seris, ravenloft and later on reading and playing my way through the dragonlance chronicles. Well if I can see a campaign open to a newbie I'll try my hand at a character and have fun. can probably commit to at least three posts a week but seems most of you guys are on the other side of the Atlantic so we'll see about times okay. I had an opportunity several years ago to visit the Trossachs National Park, Isle of Mull, and Fort Williams area. Beautiful country .

Thats the great thing about pbp.
You can post while I'm asleep here in Kansas.
And while you sleep, we can go thru your back pack, and take all your stuff. :P
