LFG DCC "Status: Still Looking"

#1 Post by AQuebman »

Hello fellow followers of the unseen servant. As many of you may know I am a newly christened DM of a DCC campaign but I am looking for the opportunity to be a player. I can promise I will roleplay the characters no matter if I was brought into run a module i've run through before.

I really enjoy the game and thought it would be a lot of fun to see how it is from a players perspective.

Thanks,

AQuebman (Useless Aquaman if you prefer  )

Are you looking to be a player on a DCC game specifically or any game generally?

Well to be honest I don't have a lot of the books of other systems. I've been in a 1E game before but I will admit with so many old school systems it can get slightly confusing. I like the mortality feel of DCC and their magic system makes me smile every time I see it in action.

Why what are you proposing Vargr?

I've been toying with the idea or running Dwimmermount using the DCC rules.

(Dwimmermount is a mega dungeon that was introduced on the Grognardia.blogspot.com website. I bought into the Kickstarter they ran to publish the dungeon and have the beta versions they've been releasing)

I need to spend some time reading through the material though.

Oh, I was not proposing anything. I just thought it would be better you making clear to prospective GMs what you are interested in playing. As of now, Unseen Servant seems to be hosting mainly AD&D1e and Basic D&D games. DCC and other assorted stuff (like sci-fi) are distant thirds.

I do not think most folks are familiar with DCC. The main reason I am playng in your game is because I wanted a chance to try it out.

Yeah unfortunately it's not received the kind of outward press I wish it did.

1e just gets kind of rules heavy and since I didn't play it long I don't know it all by heart. Dogma if you decide to run that let me know because I would be totally up for it!

Don't be afraid to jump in a game. I am new to these old editions and I think it's the best way to learn. Everyone is pretty cool with beginners and with the pace of play, there's time to look things up you don't fully understand before the next turn/move, etc.

+1

Don't limit yourself to a rule set just because you're not as familiar with the others. Mostly you don't need to worry too much about rules, anyway, as a player. That's what the GM is for! You just have to make sure your character doesn't do anything TOO stupid. (My characters do stupid things all the time - just ask my two-headed halfling over on the Borderland's game on the ODD74 forum - they just don't do OVERTLY stupid things.)

I say jump into the next opening (on a game that interests you) and plow forward at full speed! You'll pick it up in no time.

And do not forget, LL and OSRIC are available for free and are excellent entryways to BD&D and AD&D1e.

Big +1 here. If you're just looking to play no reason to go too exotic with rule sets.
Fun is fun. Once you're in, it's real hard getting back out.
:) enjoy.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Yeah I understand that. I figured id be picky at first and broaden my horizons as time goes on. My problem in the past is I get involved in too many games

Ill certainly keep myself open though RP is RP just depends on if the story grabs you.

I cut my RPG teeth on BED&D (never made it to CMI ;) ) and AD&D. I wouldn't call DCC RPG 'exotic', more like BD&D's weird second cousin.

LL and OSRIC are great too, don't get me wrong. But DCC is just familiar enough to be comfortable, and just different enough to give me that feeling I had when I first started playing D&D. Same reason I like the ACKS RPG too.

I think there is room at the table for all of them.

Heh. We likes the letters.

Oh definitely room at the table for every game!! I should have been clearer, by "exotic" I meant "costs money". :D
Though I think DCC has a free starter rule set.

PS: weird second cousin
