Part 6: Revenge is Best Served Cold ... As the Grave

Staying low to avoid possible blade traps ..... Dren inches forwards and searches the skeleton.

Aside from the torch stub and the small bag, there is nothing of note on the skeleton.

Ubrecht stays out of the passage and eyes the skeleton with suspicion. Maybe it'll jump out at him, or maybe it died of something that could still kill someone foolish enough to follow it. Either way, it doesn't look like a problem that can be solved with bashing, so the dwarf waits and watches.

Nightsong, weary from being tense over a long period of time, finally lets himself relax every so slightly. He sees the forward group inching their way through the dungeon, checking each nook and taking care around the table and doors, and thinks to himself "this is more tedious than I would have thought, but better slow tedium than hurried death." At that he once again takes up his position in the rear with Pyrrhic, listening intently for anyone trying to sneak up on them, or for any mechanical sounds in the walls or deeper in the dungeon.

Wondering who this poor individual was, Dren says a silent prayer for the unfortunate soul who succumbed to his fate alone here in the dark. Death truly does await around every corner in this cursed place.

Carefully taking the torch stub and the bag, Dren peers inside to see what the skeleton was holding so dearly in his final moments ....

The torch stub appears to be nothing more than what it is, a means to keep the dark away till final darkness claimed his soul. Opening the bag you find... PM sent

"White Gold! ... " exclaims Dren as he empties 15pp into his hand. "Thank you unfortunate one for the funds for Drens new teeth!"

Smiling through his old wooden ones, Dren holds out his hands for the others to take their share....

Ubrecht realizes with mounting horror that he's being called upon to do math again. He looks at the handful of platinum, then looks at his companions, then looks back at the platinum. He takes two of the coins, watching the faces of the others for expressions that would tell if they think he's taking too much or not enough.

You know how much of a pain it is when you're in a large group that just finished dinner, and you're trying to split a check, and some people are there as couples or families and others aren't, and it's not clear what was taxed and if tip is included? Every loot distribution is like that for Ubrecht.

Dren takes 3 coins with a wink "Just to keep the figuring easy for the rest of you, an even 2 each that makes it"

Peaches takes her two coins with a smile, and quickly pockets them. To Dren, she says,"You know, short stuff, I got a buddy topside who can fix you a whole new grill on the cheap. Owes me a couple of favors. You can pay me in advance, it makes things easier." She winks at the halfling.

Bronn takes two coins, depositing them in a safe place. He looks down the corridor at the desiccated corpse and shakes his head sadly.

In a low voice, Pyrrhic says: "Good work, Dren. Hold on to my share for now, We can even up next time we take a breather."

With the loot divvied up, where do you go next?

Bronn walks past the table with the skulls on it and looks out into corridor.

"Should we continue on down this hallway? Seems as good a direction as any."

[DMStue]

Dren nods .... "Dark magic lay ahead when Dren last walked this way. Shambling corpses with witch-eyes beset us, though bright steel and strong faith bested them. On your guard friends" he states as he scouts ahead, searching for traps and listening ... Wary of the undead.

The veteran explorers, along with the new additions, approach the crumbled wall where a group of zombies previously attacked the group. Their corpses still lay where they were felled. To the left are the remains of stone and debris. It appears that the entrance to this area was originally bricked off and previous looters broke the barrier down. Twenty feet further down the hall on the right is another such barrier but this one is still intact. It would require the hammers to get through the bricked off entrance. Twenty feet from there and on the left is a wooden door. The hall ends twenty feet further from there with a closed door.

"Well, no point leaving a hole unexplored", Mortiganto says with a shrug.

[Zorroroaster]

"I concur."

Bronn pokes his head through the opening past the debris pike and let's his keen Orcish eyes grow accustomed to the gloom.

"Well, no point leaving a hole unexplored", Mortiganto says with a shrug.

Peaches smiles broadly at Mortiganto's comment. "I used to tell my ex the same thing." She motions for Claude to help dig away the rubble.

Looking inside, Bronn sees that the room is empty. What seems odd to him is the lack of debris inside the room. As if the barrier was broken from the inside.
