Ch. 5: Plunging Deeper Into the Tomb

Abrex says, "Ok based on my calculations and where we came into the dungeon at we traveled mainly to the right/west and down/South then we traveled east. I suspect there will be rooms to the north potentially. If Dredd find no other exits in the cavern I suggest we look at using the passwall to traverse northerly. Where to start will be the question and if we don't find anything soon another passwall may be needed in conjunction with mine. We could also go all the way back out and try the main hallway again to search there for a route we may have overlooked."

"I have Passwall memorized as well so we can double the range between the two of us."

Dredd ties a rope around himself and enters the cavern to look for secret doors. Given the number of walls, their irregular shape, and the mist, he'll be in there about an hour before he has inspected the entire cave.

Eduardo tries on the ring. The good news: nothing bad seems to happen. That might be the first time that's happened to you in the Tomb. The bad news: nothing good seems to happen either, as far as you can tell.

The discussion turns to using a Passwall spell to move forward—and, if you're lucky, past additional hazards. The big question is precisely where to use the spell.

Eduardo is simultaneously relieved and disappointed. He thrusts his hand wearing the ring into the mist in the doorway to see if anything happens.

"Perhaps it requires a command word, such as "fly," he says to no one in particular.

"Mayhap the ring 'tis on the wrong...finger," says Elsa to the Eduardo the Nude.

Xale is a bit at a loss as to where best to utilize the mage's dweamors; but he trusts his companions to come to a wise decision.

Do we happen to have an updated map? I forget which ways are still open to us? Of course, there are probably a few hundred secret doors and pits and deathtraps we haven't found yet

Abrex says, "I suggest either moving back to the entrance if that is possible and checking to see if we missed anything or I suggest going from the corner north of the Mist cavern then going west 30 feat and then trying passwall going north from there. That is about midway so it might connect to something north. We have a backup passwall if we need it too. If we find anything we may want to continue using the passwall to it's completion or at least until it's duration has just enough to get us back to a safe spot before the spell runs out so we have options."

"Hey Ed. Try jumping up and down and flapping your arms. Maybe you'll fly" says Zoster without much hope in his voice.

He looks around. "If the dwarf finds nothing, I guess that leaves the south passage."

When Eduardo thrusts his ring-clad finger into the mists, his hand disappears! Into the mists, that is. The mists seem to have no other effect on the ring or vice versa.

Elsa suggests putting the ring on a different appendage.

You continue to discuss exploration of portals and paths not yet taken or the placement of possible Passwall spells.

"Has anyone tried climbing a wall in the mist chamber? With limited visibility, there may be a ledge or some sort of opening we cannot see from floor level." suggests Eduardo. "I myself wouldn't have the faintest idea how to go about climbing a wall..." he adds.

He finishes speaking, glances at Elsa, then edges away from her slightly, clearing his throat. He is suddenly overwhelmed by the impression he is nothing more than a piece of meat hanging on a rack.

"I agree with Zoster. I fear this chamber will reveal nothing to us and it is nothing more than a wear on our time and resources. I think we need to move on and further explore the missed passages."

Elsa looks at the map. "This area to the northwest has a corridor marked #4 "unexplored" passage. Perhaps try that?"

Zoster is afraid to contradict the she-orc. He gulps and musters some courage. "This passage here to the south remains unexplored, does it not?"

Xale just shrugs and says; "Either one is fine with me; let's just choose one."

"The South passage ends in a blank wall, does it not? I'm with Elsa - let's check out the unexplored passage in the Northwest. I ran by it in a panic some time ago..." says Eduardo.
