After he uses the arrowhead he'd recently retrieved to scrap any remaining flesh from the inside of the hide, he washes up in the stream and rolls the hide, tying it to his pack. He'll have to remember to make a hide stretcher when he camps for the night to properly truss it up.

With that taken care of, he turns his attention to the area where the wolf was chained. He starts looking to see if there is a path leading behind the waterfall or... otherwise determining what the wolf might have been hiding.

"Where did the goblins come from when you men approached? From behind the waterfall? Or somewhere else?"

OOC: Just to keep up with things, Mr. DM, can I get a quick note on what Gwillt found when rummaging through the goblins' possessions? Also, is skinning the wolf OK? Want any kind of roll for that?

Actually, in this game, a Cleric should can use all of their known spells to memorize non-healing spells, but swap those non-healing spells for the healing equivalent as desired (see: 'Healing Spells (Cleric)' under the details of the Cleric class).

For instance, Kaltar has three spells per day. He can memorize any three non-healing spells (e.g. Bless, Command, and Create Water). If a healing spell is needed, he can elect to cast it (e.g. Cure Light Wounds) in place of one of the non-healing memorized spells stated, just by indicating which of the memorized spells he's vacating (e.g. casting Cure Light Wounds in place of Create Water).

saalaria, this is apparently something you still need to do (see item 4 in the review of your character).

Please indicate the expenditure of 1 arrow on your character sheet, and also add the arrowhead as an item (no encumbrance).

Gwillt searches the belongings of the two deceased climber goblins and, aside from their goblin blades (equivalent to short swords), the only possessions of interest he finds is a small pouch carried by one of them that contains a small hand shovel and a few green plants that look almost like mint.

Gwillt is able to successfully skin the wolf (No roll necessary, but please add the item to your inventory with a weight of 3 pounds).

The four goblins searched at the base of the waterfall have their goblin blades (equivalent to short swords), a total of four javelins remaining, and a handful of goblin items of no value. The goblin responsible for releasing the wolf from its restraints, however, is also wearing a crude necklace made of thin rope (1/4-inch diameter) and attached to this necklace is what looks like a very small scroll case.

The water from the falls impacts the ground approximately ten feet from the base of the cliff. It appears evident that the four goblins defeated in this area had been camped in this area, almost as if on guard duty. There are goblin dishes and silverware as well as a few other crude items of little to no value. By the looks of the markings left on the ground, the goblins appear to have been playing some sort of game similar to tic-tac-toe... and gambling on the outcomes as there are four small piles of coins; one per goblin:

First pile:
1 silver piece
3 copper pieces
5 unknown coins

Second pile:
2 unknown coins

Third pile:
1 silver piece
18 unknown coins

Fourth pile:
6 silver pieces
22 copper pieces
38 unknown coins

Beyond this camp area behind the falls is a roughly six feet high by four feet wide opening that appears to lead directly into the base of the cliff itself.

My rules on this are detailed here: '09. Damage and Death' but, as you'll notice, they're limited to preventing further damage to unconscious or dying characters:
Notes: 2. wrote:Any player character will have the ability to attempt to 'bind wounds' and prevent futher hit point loss to an unconscious character.
The rules for 'natural healing' are also detailed there, but are pretty typical (1 hit point recovered per day of rest).

Gwillt stacks the six short swords, four javelins, and hand shovel by the skinned wolf for anyone who wants them to take.

He cuts the small scroll case free of the cord. If it is unsealed, he'll open the case and see what is contained within. If it is parchment, he'll take it out and see what is on it.

He gathers the coins together and puts them next to the swords and javelins:
SP: 8
CP: 25
UK: 63

Looking at the three men, he says,"These obviously belonged to the four goblins you dispatched. Yours by rights..."

Can Gwillt determine the element makeup of the unknown coins?

Once this is all done, he'll point out the opening behind the waterfall to the others. He draws his scimitar. "No need to be stealthy here, I suspect. Anything that was within ear shot of the camp here would have heard the wolf and the sounds of fighting, for certain. You gentlemen up for a quick venture into the underground? I'd like to see what these goblins are up to. I'm sure the neighboring villages would like to know, as well..."

Gwillt opens up the case and, tipping it on its side, manages to slide an object out of it and into his hand. It appears to be a small key.

No. They're extremely crude and made of metal. For all you can tell, they may be more chips than actual coins.

not sure proper protocol for splitting treasure as it happens? is it best to have a trusty accountant hold it all? Ewell would either take his share, or do whatever is proper in that regard. Let me know


Ewell nods his approval to go spelunkering... Most definitely... Much easier I am sure, than all of us getting up that rope. Besides... How dangerous could it be?

Ahhh I see ye all tidied the belongings of those fallen. Please take what ye need be it coins or weapons. I know Ewell and Kaltar fought beside me but Gwillit was a part of the fight as well. To the other two I have no problem if ye need something please help yerself.

It seems we have a few choices. We can see the body tied to the tree or explore the beyond fer a bit. We can split up and go our own ways or travel together.

I dont know what each of ye believe in but all of us arriving here in the middle of nowhere seems more than chance. Maybe there is something we need to accomplish together.

Shannigans has had plenty of experience not taking coinage from a fight he was not involved. He has been beaten more than once by his brother for reaching in on such. But one thing does catch his eye.

If no one objects, the halfling takes one of the plants, he stuffs the flowering top and several of the leaves into one of his component pouches.

Nah this time I am comfortable with 2 heals

Taking Ewell's silence on the matter as an indication he is happy, kaltar turns to Jareth:

"I think you, old friend, are certainly in some need of aid"

Kaltar clasps Jareth's shoulder, closes his eyes and invokes his prayer to his god still tbc as that D&D file is enormous so will have to wait till can get back on a pc!. He feels the magical energy flow through him and into Jareth, at the same time a strong feeling of well-being settles into Kaltar and a beatific smile briefly crosses his features.

Cure Light Wounds [1d8] = 6

Kaltar then considers his new companions:
"I believe we must return to the body you found and arrange a proper burial. We can then journey into the cave." Kaltar states insistently.

Thank you Kaltar. I fear I took too many hits in that engagement. I need to be more cautious.
And yes, let us look after the body of the deceased before we move on.

If you want to avoid having to download the entire book to simply select a deity, I did a quick search and found this link: AD&D Deities Sorted By Alignment. It doesn't have full details about each, but should be enough to help you make the initial decision. I can work with you to get you the full details of the deity you select (or a few deities if you're undecided).

What he's saying, Saalaria, is that you can have your cake and eat it, too. You can pick three non-healing spells you might want to use and, at any point in the day, decide to forgo using one of those spells in place of a CLW. But if you don't need the CLW, then you'll have three other (possibly) useful spells for the day.

For example, you could pick up Command, Detect Magic, and Light. If we made it through a day without an encounter and you didn't have to heal anyone, then you could cast the Light spell on a rock so we had a light at the camp at night and then cast Detect Magic on the assorted high quality weapons we picked up the day before to see if any of them is magical.

Or, if we ended up in a fight, and someone needed healing very badly, you could say, "I'll exchange Command and Light for two CLW spells and cast them both on the paladin."

I'm certainly not one to tell someone how to play their character, but... this is a very generous rule by the DM. It has some nice advantages and no detriments. If you indicate that you want two of your spells for the day to be CLW, then... you've self-imposed a limit to the usefulness of your spells that isn't at all necessary.

Ewell listens to the various arguments toward where to venture, the family tree or the cozy cave. He is anxious to seek adventure in the cave, but sees the value in learning something from the body in the tree.

basically he doesnt care. whichever way the group wants to go...
