Chp. 7 - Intrigue in the Court of Chaos
Re: Chp. 7 - Intrigue in the Court of Chaos
Asherrion states loudly, Much of my life is unknown to me, as the actions of those who have corrupted my form damaged my mind. However, I have been a champion of justice and virtue, having argued to save the lives of those helplessly put to the blade. I have helped root our chaos in caves and on ships. I have fought bravely against those that corrupt and destroy. Call me a true son of Law.
Re: Chp. 7 - Intrigue in the Court of Chaos
Porphyry, furious at being injured, spits vehemently at the lion attacking him: "Dung-brained beast! Hone your claws on my hide, would you? I'll know the color of your guts!"
Re: Chp. 7 - Intrigue in the Court of Chaos
Eryndir tries to put another arrow into the same lion, hoping to finish it off.
to hit [1d20+5] = 3+5 = 8 damage [1d8+3] = 7+3 = 10

Re: Chp. 7 - Intrigue in the Court of Chaos
Groyn grabs his battle-axe, which turns into a Chaos Wolf Spear. He'll attack the closest lion.
Bene charges the closest feline

Niles wills his longsword into a +3 two handed sword of chaos while standing his ground guarding Asherrion.

Gagel laughs, "The only virtuous man amidst us can't even remember the good deeds he has committed, how wonderful!", he fires another arrow.

Wulfhart feels lucky to have dodged the lion's claws. He will attack the one fighting him, or if none attack him he'll choose the most wounded one.

Judgement! - Round Two
Asherrion of the gray skin recites his lawful deeds. The weighing pan rises 17.6' feet of the 35'. The key is 17.6' feet up out of reach.
The lions continue their attacks.

One veers off Fingal the thief and leaps upon Niles who is near the scale. The claws rake the fighter's armor, but don't penetrate. The bite however crunches his left shoulder! (3 HP damage) Niles swings his sword around but the sudden pain upsets his blow.
The lion fighting Wulfhart claws the northen warrior in the right arm! (3 HP) Wulfhart hews back at the lion, slicing deep. The beast yelps and falls back heavily wounded.
Gagel the thief fires another perfect bow shot into his lion. It snarls in pain. Eryndir the elf follows suit, but his arrow shot is wide.
Groyn's lion clamps down its fanged jaws on the dwarf, painfully (6 HP) Groyn growls and hacks at the lion with his Chaos battle axe. Bene the dog bites into lion fur, but seems to have no effect on the giant feline.
Porphyry dodges his lion's raking claws and snapping maw. The satyr sinks his sickle into the mane of the lion. The animal howls, and staggers, and prepares to attack again.
Actions for Round 3!

Re: Chp. 7 - Intrigue in the Court of Chaos
Eryndir tries to weave his way through to the left-hand scale pan. As he does so he starts to loudly list all of his misdeeds,
"I have had cannibalistic urges, I have been tempted to strangle Porphyry in his sleep many times, I have had unclean thoughts involving drow females (but then who hasn't), when I was a youngling I stole my best friend's pet glitterbug and fed him to a blue treefrog, I tell people that I'm allergic to cheese but the truth is that I just don't like the taste..."
I'm not sure if I'm correctly interpreting the situation. My initial impression was that just the right-hand pan had risen, but looking at the picture I'm not sure if that is correct. If I'm wrong let me know and I will edit my action

Re: Chp. 7 - Intrigue in the Court of Chaos
Wulfhart is amazed to see Asherrion so far off the ground, trying to avoid being distracted from the fight at hand. He slashes again at the wounded lion, wishing he didn't have to.
Re: Chp. 7 - Intrigue in the Court of Chaos
Porphyry darts in an out of the lion's range, trying to find openings where he can safely use his sickle without getting caught in the beast's claws. He calls over if shoulder, "If one of you would do me the courtesy of dying, I could raise his corpse and use it to fight in my stead."

Re: Chp. 7 - Intrigue in the Court of Chaos
Gagel is confused by Eryndir's actions, "Surely misdeeds would only make it go lower, right? And if we are talking misdeeds, surely me or the corpse defiling, horns growing man over there would be better suited, I have done some very bad things in the past like...", he remembers that he is in a battlefield and shoots out another arrow, "How about I give you the corpse of a lion to play with"

Asherrion stretches for the key. I've done other great things. I've freed the imprisoned. I've helped the helpless. Law is my light, obviously.

Re: Chp. 7 - Intrigue in the Court of Chaos
Fingal sheaths his sword and goes into a defensive mode. He will try to avoid killing the rest of the lions as he is sure that their survival has something to do with this last "test".
Judgement? What the hecks that got to do with anything in here?
The dim potato farmer turned adventurer hasn't had much to offer in the way of solving these riddles yet, but he "jumps" into action all the same. He uses his magic boots to try to reach the empty scale pan in hopes that it lifts the grey elf high enough to reach the key.
He will use whatever means he must to try to reach the scale, jumping off the shoulders of his northern warrior friends shoulders if necessary.

Porphyry, seeing Fingal's actions, shouts, "Of course! Jump to the other pan, and announce your misdeeds! That should drag your pan down, and lift Asherrion the rest of the way!
"I imagine the lions are here to punish whomever weighs down that left pan, but it seems they were overeager to begin the job."

Re: Chp. 7 - Intrigue in the Court of Chaos

With righteous roars of goodness, the lions press the attack. Niles, Wulfhart and Groyn fend off their lions' claw attacks. Porphyry is struck! (4 HP damage) The lions bites prove more difficult, as fangs gash into Niles (6 HP), Wulfhart (5 HP), Groyn (5 HP.)
Asherrion the elf recites a few more generic lawful deeds. The pan rises only a few inches. Down on the floor, Eryndir weaves and lunges for the left scale tray, which is on the ground. The elf begins reciting all the bad things he's thought and done in life, much to the party's entertainment while they fight off the lions. Alas, the tray does not rise.
Fingal the thief remembers his Boots of Jumping and bounds up for the right hand tray. He just manages to grab the edge at 18' and pulls himself onto it. He stands now with Asherrion the elf, and the key is 17' up and slightly right. Fingal knows he has a good chance of grabbing the key with his enchanted Boots (will require Dex. check.)
The adventurers fight back with slashing steel, or Chaos matter of an undetermined type. Wulfhart slices his lion, killing it with a mighty blow. Porphyry sickles his lion, ending the feline's life. Niles takes a two-handed grip on his weapon and decapitates his lion. Gagel's bow fires true again, embedding an arrow into Groyn's beast, the fourth and last lion which is on its last leg.

Gagel takes a few steps back but doesn't fire any more arrows, afraid that if the last lion is dead, the ordeal will be canceled like what happened in the rainbow room.

Fingal the Thief bites his lip and shrugs his shoulders at the strange looking grey skinned elf.
He jumps for the key with all his might and hopes he doesn't die in the process.
Here goes nuttin!
