X1 - The Isle of Dread in ACKS

I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.

X1 - The Isle of Dread in ACKS

#1 Post by PiebaldWookie »

Hey everyone,

Not been on here in a while, but the urge to run something is too great to ignore!

Anyone down for some wilderness exploration?

Characters begin with 5000xp, standard 3d6 in order, roll on the Templates chart from the Players Companion to determine template (if you don't have it, I'll roll for you once you pick a class), as well as some extra cash for equipment and such.

I'm happy with most classes built through the PC, but please run any homebrew classes past me first.

Hi!
I have some questions:
Is it 3d6 in order once or the array of 5 from the core book?
Is the use of the templates mandatory or could we also pick proficiecies and equipment ourselves?

Array of 5, and sure - I think the recommended amount is 8,000 go.

I'm down. The Isle of dread is one of the best modules ever. Can I play a human fighter? What edition d&d, 1 or 2? Can we play fighter kits if it is 2nd edition?

Its ACKS! :D
Here is the freely available SRD:https://github.com/capheind/ACKS_SRD?files=1
But the PDFs are pretty cheap at rpgnow, especially considering what kind of awesome system you get. ;)

@PiebaldWookie: Do you have an email where we can send the rolls for verification? This roller is pretty good and sends the rolls to the GM as well: http://www.pbegames.com/chardnd/

I'm a complete ACKS newb, but it seems like an interesting system. I'd really like to give it a try if you guys don't mind me asking a lot of newb questions. :)

Yeah - the basics are pretty much the same as B/X with a few numbers swapped around. The Throw system might look a little weird at first, but you get used to it.

I'm reading through the PDF now. It doesn't look too daunting. Count me in!

Character wise I will probably end up with a druid like Elven Enchantress. How do we end up on this island of dread?

Changed my mind . I love the Isle dread module, but I don't want to learn a new system. Count me out sorry.

I can understand that. The differences from D&D at low levels are really minor though.

True, besides the character generation that can be more complex there is very little difference in actual play for a player and with the templates the former is also nothing to worry about.

Have you already opened a subforum where we can post characters PiebaldWookie?

Getting one up as we speak.

So, I was thinking of having you guys start on the Isle (the adventure contains a preamble, but in PbP it might take a while to get through).

The gist is that, through various misadventures, one of you (or all of you) came across a rough map of the isle, along with a note. I'll post these up in the forum when its up.

You then decided to rent a boat and go adventuring, for gold, glory and sweet, sweet XP.

Do you have any other pbp games you've run that you can link to?

Still room for new players? I'd be interested in playing?

Welcome to the Unseen Servant forums, barkman. We have a two-post approved rule here. Once you have another post approved, you'll be able to post and send PMs normally.

Cheers,

I've offered to be in another game and if accepted I'll be playing there. I've read ACKS a year or two ago and really liked what I saw. Would you kind folks be cool with bringing me in just to lurk/watch/learn the system? If for some reason the other game is full (a LL AEC game), then I'd be interested to play but I'm sure I won't have time to be posting in two games simultaneously. Thanks either way for your consideration and good luck with the game, it sounds awesome.
