Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
McCloud hands the keys over to the next locksmith and goes to enlarging the hole in the door.
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
The Dwarf grudgingly moves away from his future toothpicks and gives the key a try, following the directions of the more... Knowledgeable members of the party.
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
How will Urdak turn the key?

Odilo "I'm no locksmith but try turning it quarter turns or was there any clues in that poem you all keep referring to?"

Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
What poem? Urdaks looks up with a blank stare. Who knoz how t'usin' zis? He asks of the key and lock.
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Skarlos will start searching for secret doors near the door that Urdak is attending to and work back to the keyhole room.
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
well I inserted said bronze key like thus", McCloud takes hold of the key as in some cookery demonstration class, (his skills never ending!), " and oh yes turn it to the clock wise all the way and then an extra turn just like when you're locking your wagon wheel nuts when you stop your cart in downtown Vermont", McCloud turns the key and then expecting a bang or zap, "and failing that you turn to the left and kiss your nuts goodbye.".
okay re-reading through the forum action notes and I think I see the error of our ways....I originally wrote this line in November and in my head saw McCloud fully turn the key in both directions until it couldn't possibly twist further but maybe Zhym read the action as two turns to the right and only one turn anti-clockwise so therefore it was not fully turned to the left....
McCloud slapping his head for the forgetfulness and in a 'eureka' moment will stop the door vandalism and run to the entrance to the 'depressed keyhole' room and shout to Urdak what and motion vigorously with his hands what he thinks is the right lock picking 'wrist' action
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Urdak listens to and watches McCloud's instructions (He only had to repeat them 3 times!) before applying them in the most Dwarven fashion.
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
I'm going to avoid asking what that motion is, exactly.Stirling wrote:McCloud slapping his head for the forgetfulness and in a 'eureka' moment will stop the door vandalism and run to the entrance to the 'depressed keyhole' room and shout to Urdak what and motion vigorously with his hands what he thinks is the right lock picking 'wrist' action
I'm still not clear on what Urdak is doing, though.
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
McCloud, what IS Urdak doing?
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
"Urdak you should twist the key to the left and then try to twist it some more in the same dircetion, just like winding up some ancient crossbow. You've got to do the 'left and left'action as directed by the epic floor poem from the entrance, (though McCloud doesn't actually believe that following the directions of Acererack is going to lead us to some glorious blessing, "hey you want to rob my tomb, well just do the following...!"). McCloud urges Urdak with appropriate motions but he still senses that the keyhole will spring some trap and he expects the floor to zoom off into the depths so will also ask for the magic rope treatment to be applied to Urdaks legs jus in case he plummets to the abyss below.
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
And now it's time for everyone's favorite question from the DM:
Where is everyone standing when Urdak does this?

Where is everyone standing when Urdak does this?

Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Odilo stands out in the next room awaiting the results of the key hole testing. Whistling a tune nobody recognizes.

Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Skarlos is still searching somewhere near the door that was being battered down
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
The Dwarf listens intently, watches the hand gestures, and grunts. He fumbles with his cluttered pack until he finds his rope. He ties it around his midsection and hands the balance to McCloud. Findn sommat t'secure me to, so's Ae don' fallin down no holes, nor go flyin' up inna air. Once he's certain gravity will play no part in his doom, he flows the key directions with Dwarven precision.
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Urdak hands the rope to McCloud, who stands out in the hall and holds on tight.
One turn to the left...nothing.
Another turn to the left...nothing.
Does Urdak keep turning?

Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
You might aswell T - we have no other ideas!
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Quinn is standing just around the corner to the north where he can observe McCloud.
OOC: I agree. Turn it again. We are kind of at a dead end...lol

Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Urdak is a Dwarf, known for their stubbornness. He is exceptionally so. Of course he keeps turning!
