You've come to the right place. A majority of the games run here are 1E (or OSRIC), but there is an existing 2E game as well as a B/X and BECMI game, with new games starting all the time.

I would highly recommend you check out the threads in the Tips for the Player section, especially the New To Play-by-Post Games? and Tips For New Play-By-Post (PbP) Players threads. Also, do not hesitate to ask questions. You'll find these forums filled with fun, helpful players.

Welcome, again!

Thanks a bunch for the welcome. Already can tell this is a place for serious though fun-loving gamers and can't wait to dig into pbp. Was having trouble finding the time to do ftf gaming beyond that with my kids, and people close by want to play pathfinder. Nothing wrong with that, but I got bored with the chore of rolling up my first character and gave up on it, lol! I got here via dragonsfoot via the Roll for Initiative podcast, so I figured I was on a good track. Will definitely check those links out as I continue to peruse the site. Thanks again and see you around!

(Ok well, I guess I'll make my formal introduction as well.)

Hello to all, Argennian here.

IC: I’m a Wood elf fighter/thief of questionable background, hailing originally from the Sylvan Kingdom within the Elven Lands. A retired member of the highly-regarded Hatmarin Division during the last days of the Great War and reputed member of the infamous Hands of Balance. Ran into some… trouble with the authorities in Karagonia and had to get out of town quick. Last seen in the west, more properly the easternmost regions of the mighty and majestic Gythas Mountain Range…

OOC: My RL name is Mitch. Just recently turned 42 and happy to report that I am still in control of at least 89% of my previous faculties (although some might vehemently argue the accuracy of that number). Currently working as a telecommunications field tech. When not working or gaming, I’m usually trying to either catch up on reading, hiking out at Point Reyes and trying to stay out of trouble! Got back into playing RPGs with 1st Edition AD&D around 2004, after a 20+ year hiatus, and was lucky enough to hook up with a bunch of guys that had been gaming and going to conventions together since high school! As a youngster, played some D&D but it was mostly 1E Top Secret, Boot Hill, Gamma World and Metamorphosis Alpha.

I’m currently playing in 4 awesome OSRIC pbps here at unseenservant and just started DMing one as well. Also playing in 2 AD&D pbps over at the good ship Dragonsfoot. In FtF gaming, I am currently playing in 8 AD&D campaigns (of various frequency), one regular 2E, and one regular 1e/2e hybrid. Also had the recent distinct pleasure of being an official play-tester for Guy Fullerton http://www.chaotichenchmen.com on his new Dungeon Module F3 Many Gates of Gann. Those were some incredibly cool sessions down at the Apple campus and even got to meet and game with Allan Grohe of Black Blade Publishing http://www.black-blade-publishing.com (which is of course where I got my super-ultimate BBP OSRIC hardcover!)

I’m currently running the following FtF games: three long-time 1E AD&D campaigns, a few unfinished 1E AD&D tournaments, a brand new 1E Metamorphosis Alpha campaign and play-testing a hybrid rule set of 1E Metamorphosis Alpha/Star Frontiers/Gamma World for a homebrew tournament game at the next DunDraCon convention. Recently donated to the new 5e Metamorphosis Alpha Kickstarter for Jamie Chambers http://www.signalfirestudios.com and have bought everything that Eldritch Enterprises has put out.

Very much enjoy being a part of the US boards and gaming with the all the good folks here. If I could offer some advice to any of the newer members it would be only three small things:

1) Donate some bucks to ToniXX and crew for maintaining the most awesome PbP gaming site in the world.
2) Play OSRIC and purchase your Black Blade Publishing OSRIC hardback immediately.
3) Have a great time gaming! 8-)

Greetings all! Looking forward to jumping into the realm of play by post gaming. Many, many years of D&D dating back to the boxed set though most of my DM experience is with the 3.5 rule set. Will have to familiarize myself with the earlier editions again. You know, back when Bards were freaking awesome! Someone tell me you use the awesome old-school 1e Bard system, please?

Anyhoo, I tend to be a tad rediculous and I am never afraid to ask questions (you have been warned) when I have them. I will hop about the forum and familiarize myself with the policies and procedures then look for a game to join.

Thanks Al for pointing me here and I look forward to getting to know more folks, thanks for having me.

No, because it is overly complicated and darn near impossible to qualify for. But I do allow OSRIC Unearthed's Bard, and with 4 available variants, no less! :)

OSRIC (link at the bottom to where you may download it from)

Simply put it is a pseudo-Retroclone, the first one ever in fact, that replicates AD&D1e. The PDF has material from all 3 AD&D1e core books. It lacks both the Monk and Bard classes.

OSRIC Unearthed is a supplement with new classes based of the original Unearthed Arcana and Oriental Adventures (barbarians, cavaliers, monks, bards, samurai, ninjas, etc), plus martial arts rules.

The OU Bard has thief skills and mystic song effects, but no spell casting. He fights better than a Thief and can ne proficient in any weapon. I made 3 variants out of the OU Bard that use MU spells, Druid spells and Illusionist spells respectively.

Hello all,
I'm new to the board, heard about it on the RFI podcast.

I've been in the hobby since 1980 and I'm looking forward to playing in a game or two. I'm still considering if I'll run something, maybe AD&D Greyhawk.

See you around the forums,

Bill

Welcome Bill!
Yes please do DM a game here. :)
Be well,
--Ron--
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Greetings! I am a happily married man and father of eight most excellent children who have given me cause to have another look at that old role-playing game that was collecting dust in my garage for a number of years. I have been playing off and on now for about thirty years ever since the Moldvay B series box first made its appearance in the early 80s or late 70s. I have played with a variety of different groups both young and old, from the strange to the socially acceptable and have marveled at the player diversity this game has. When it comes to preferred version I would have to write that 1st edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons wins that title though the BX series comes in at a very close second. Since my 'olders' are now in their teen years I had decided to introduce them to the D&D world first through Stephan Chenault's Castles & Crusades game. Later we also discovered the Star Wars Role-playing game, first the Revised Version followed shortly afterward by Saga edition. The latter is now the family's preferred choice of game and we've even gotten together with another family to play that particular iteration. My kids ages range between 5 months to 16 years. I started listening to the Roll For Initiative Podcast recently and through it have been inspired to continue fantasy and sci-fi gaming possibly for some time to come and regularly. It was also through this podcast that I heard about this PbP Forum. I am looking forward to my first game here.

Welcome...
Wow. 8? At least you can play a great d&d game during family dinners.

Also, interesting you bring up the sci-fi games. I do find it odd that no one plays any of them on here. I remember playing either traveller or T2000 back in the 80s. I have always wanted to play a pirate themed one ...

Oh, yes. I will have a built-in, reliable play group for some time to come. No complaints at all about that.

I agree! It would be fantastic, for instance, to start playing in either a West End Games Star Wars or a TSR Star Frontiers PbP.

Welcome, angelicdoctor! Glad you found us. As with a lot of us, our stories are similar in how we got into the game. (Although I have 8 less children than you!)

Regarding the sci-fi games: I used to play Star Frontiers. Did anybody else? I remember I liked that quite a bit as a kid, but only played it a few times as not may of my friends were into it. We always reverted back to 1ed AD&D, which was also quite fine with me.
