As the discussion turns to building a platform, Ciar mentions that the area covered by slime is approximately 20' long.

Ciar brushes off Fulps rebuke with a casual reply, "Just borrowin' it, mate. If I'd taken it, likely you wouldn't even know it. It's still yours. Here. You can even carry it back across the ledge, if you want..." He unbuckles the lantern and sets it down, stepping away from it to make room for the taller human to access the 7" ledge.

Kassal will take out one of his candles and light it, either from a torch or lantern or with his Flint and steal.

Once lit he will carefully approach the slime and hold the flame to the slime at his full arm stretch, and take in what happens when the two meet.

Fulp asks as he does that...

Before we step through this slime, was there any other doors or hallways we might want to consider exploring? this could be deadly.

There is the 5' deep trench filled with the goo opposite the ledge, but before Kassal or anyone else can reach the passaged blocked by slime, the narrow 7-inch wide ledge must be dealt with first.

"Either set flame to it or let's turn around and get outta here!" Festus says, clearly uncomfortable. "Me big feet won't fit on that skinny ledge and I ain't in no mood fer a slime bath! 'Course, if ya set fire to it, the smoke is gonna run us outta here anyway."

If nobody offers any further suggestions or ideas, then before they leave, Ciar stands by the trench and does two things, just to see the reaction.

First, he takes his twine from his pack and cuts off a 6' length. Then he dips it into the trench, just enough to get slime on a few inches of the string and draws it back up. He presents the string to Kassel and his candle. "Slowly bring the flames close to the slime to see if it reacts to it. If it doesn't react to the heat, see if it reacts directly to the flames."

Once that experiment is done, he takes his wine skin and does the same experiment with wine, to see if it reacts at all to the alcohol.

Sylvan will return to the torture room and remove some of the implements of torture. He will return and throw several into the slime trough, unless the previous experiments reveal something interesting (such as flammability).

A piece of Ciar's twine is dipped into the congealed and highly-sticky slime substance, which is then presented to Kassal to allow him to introduce the substance to heat first, then flame.

When merely holding the candle flame near the slime fails to cause a reaction, Kassal inches it closer. As the candle approaches touching the goo, it seems to withdraw from the flame.

Ciar smiles,"Now we're getting somewhere, Kass. Anyone have any torches? What would be better is taking some 20' of rope and pouring oil on it, then throwing it along the wall and lighting it. But we could see how far it retreats from the flames of a torch first. I suspect we'd have to go to town for the rope."

Kassal thinks, trying to remember if he saw any wood in the torture chamber.

"There were some odd wood bits in the torture chamber were there not. The slime is aware it seems. And afraid of fire. That in itself is a good thing right."

Fulp mentions

I've got a torch and some twine, though I don't know if they will hold the slime at bay to walk past. We also need to make sure we have enough material to get back...

"Just those of us who are willing to risk the ledge, actually," Ciar says, matter-of-factly.

Okay, here's the deal.

Pouring oil on a rope, tossing the rope across the 20' section of slime, then setting the rope on fire is a great idea. However, I will need a dexterity check from four characters (the limit that can fit on the other side at one time) that attempts to cross the narrow ledge in order to reach that point:

Rolls:
Sparrow's dexterity check : [1d20] = 2

---

Sparrow easily crosses the narrow ledge and awaits some companions to assist in the rope dousing and tossing experiment.

"Gentlemen, I'm afraid I have two left feet. I'm not the best to skirt that ledge, but will not refuse if this is asked of me" says Sylvan as he surveys the situation. "I'm best suited as a light bearer..."

Well that means the rest of us have to try then.

Kassal shakes his head and ambles along the ledge, tettering slightly and having a slip but making it none the less.

Ooc: is that jumping the gun? Don't know if we have the rope for that idea yet.

Not about to test his luck with the ledge, Festus watches the backs of his companions, keeping an eye on the corridor to the north.
