First Suggested Party:
Dorvar - Harold - Halfred
Varas - Valorei - Nihilius
Olympia - Wendall - Baxtaw

Feel free to move it around.

Wendall speaks up once he sees how thick the underbrush is.

It seems like going in right here will be pretty tuff, especially with that horse. Should we try a different approach instead?

Since we know where the forest begins, perhaps we should simply travel along its edge to the north? Then if we see a trail or a spot where it's easier to traverse, then investigate into it a bit more?

This place gives me the creeps, no offense meant to our elves of course.

Nihilius walks in whatever position he is placed, assuming he is next to the horse he continues to hold its reins, preparing for trouble. Ferris the wolfhound pads along by his side, ears pinned back as he sniffs at the menacing forest around them.

As the begin through the forest, he gets his lantern out and lights it, keeping it low to extend its duration, holding a flask of oil in the other hand. "If it is woods that threaten... Let us prepare with fire."

Is there any reason we couldn't cut north short of the wood?

Ya, that's what I meant. Turn north before we go into the trees and follow the edge.

I'm not opposed to looking for an easier location to enter, from keehnelfs description though I don't think we'll find one.

Also: Harold really shouldn't be in the front rank. Check his sheet again. :D

Baxtaw- I do not mind heading north looking for a trail. But if it is a trail we are looking for. What made the trail is what I would be concerned about.

Line up is fine with me
Current Characters/Games
Grakluse Longleaf-A Candle in the Darkness
Jacxor Ironforge-Dungeon of the Mad Mage (5e)
Kreed Oaken-Chaos halls
Xlore Strongoak-B11 King's Festival & B12 Queen's Harvest - AD&D 2e

Long story short: this wood may be a death trap, or simply ancient, wild and beautiful. Or some combination thereof.
This is the part of the discription that I was worried about.

The wood looks dense and overgrown at ground level, but that doesn't mean there are no residents or that trails don't exist. Just not at this spot.

Varas is happy to trade spots with Harold so he can scout ahead and/or use his bow

I like that Valorei, with his powerful elf-prince sword, is in the middle of the formation, surrounded on all sides by those physically weaker or less well-equipped than him ;)

Halfred frowns at the boy-mage who claims to be an ancient sorcerer. "I'm not sure the trees would like you threatening them. Not that I'm superstitious, you understand; still, perhaps it's better not to threaten them anyhow, if you take my meaning. Either they're just normal trees, like we're used to, in which case threatening them is silly; or they're not, in which case perhaps we should be better guests?"

Do we really want to put Val, with his hp in the front? Yeah, he has that sword, but he isn't really built for combat. How about:

Dorvar- Baxtaw- Varas
Valorei- Halfred- Olympia
Nihilius- Harold- Wendall

Otherwise, since Val and Olympia have the lowest health, we could swap them with Halfred and Harold respectively, so that they are not at the edges. Of course, this is all assuming we can go three abreast, we may have to go single file if the woods are dense (when we get to that point).
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

Way to go Keehnelf, ratting me out!

Valorei, "it is still early into the day, I see no reason why we cannot spend some time patrolling the edge of the forest for any more easily accessible paths." He turns to Nihilius, "I agree with Halfred young wizard, There is wisdom in his words. This place is full of greater power than you, respect is needed here."

South would bring us to the foothills of the impassable mountains right? Can we estimate about how long it would take us to get as far as we can go to the south?
