Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Lars reloads his crossbow, safely from within the branches of the tree.
"Ho, ho. You boys are good! Now where did that nymph scamper off to."

Just realized you didn't get this from any of us:
Initiative: [1d6] = 3
"Aye, Lars...keep an eye out from up there. I've heard of these things, but never seen one up close before."

Round Four Summary:
Lug vs. Dire Wolf [1d20+4] = 13+4 = 17, damage [1d10+2] = 5+2 = 7
Orrin vs. Dire Wolf [1d20+3] = 10+3 = 13, damage [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7
The two doughty warriors attempt to finish off the wolf before it can get a chance to flee, each missing, but as it turns tail to flee at top speed toward the woods on the far side of the clearing, they both manage to get clean shots against its retreating back and connect. The wolf, badly injured, disappears into the undergrowth before Lars is able to bring his reloaded crossbow to bear.
Combat is now over, unless someone wants to chase the wolf into the dense woods.
Lars can successfully recover the bolt from Orrin's shoulder--it did not penetrate deeply enough to be completely damaged.

How much of a head start does the wolf have on Lug?

Orrin holds still and grits his teeth as he asks Lug to take hold of the bolt and pull it out. He then looks up at Lars still in the tree and laughs.
"I saved this for you, thief. Good thing I got in the way, or you'd be chasing that wolf into the forest to get it back, ha!"
Pleased with his jesting, Orrin looks to see how Naila is faring and then shifts his gaze to the tree that the woman disappeared into, staying watchful.

It ran off full speed, and it is a lot faster than he is, even injured.Zhym wrote:How much of a head start does the wolf have on Lug?

The young woman reappears from behind the tree, shyly looking in the direction of the adventurers. She spies Lug and cries out,"Oh, what handsome, brave and fearless warriors you are! Thank you so much for coming to my rescue and saving this peaceful place from their horrible, ugly, mean selves!" She rushes toward Lug as if to embrace him.

"Hold it right there lady!"
Lars points the crossbow in her direction.
"I thank you for trying to help us. But, we'll want no part of your flattery. We just want to get home. If you want to thank the man; I'm sure he'll react kindly to some of them shinies you got sitting around. Elsewise, I'll think we'll be on our way."

She turns toward Lars, lifting her face to him, her eyes widening and brightening as though she hadn't seen him before. "Oh! Flattery? You scandalize me, sir. I can tell from your authoritative tone that you must be the leader of this group. So, it is fitting that I address my thanks to you directly." She curtseys, low and gracefully, before continuing. "You look weary, and your friend seems sorely injured," her eyes pass over Naila completely to reach a tender hand toward Orrin's punctured shoulder. "It couldn't hurt your quest to stop a while and enjoy a drink of fresh, cool water and enjoy a safe haven against the perils of the forest, could it?"

Lars' eyes wander unfaithfully at the forest lady's lewd curtsey, but he speaks with years of calloused experience from being exposed to tricksters and flatterers. Something in the back of his mind is screaming at him that this woman isn't nearly as innocent as she seems. "Your sympathies are well noted. But we'll be well enough on our own, once we're out of this forest."
He makes no move to get out of the tree just yet.

She turns back to Lug with a pout. "Your friend isn't very polite, is he? Refusing the thanks of a lady in distress, living all alone here in the forest with no one to protect her from trouble...You'd be willing to do that, wouldn't you? Protect me from big bad wolves and mean trespassers who point weapons at me?" she says, playfully tugging at Lug's sleeve.

Knowing his companion and the likely outcome of this flirtation, Lars tries to thwart her advances, appealing to some hope of Lug's better judgement.
"Don't listen to her Lug. Ask her where the jewels came from Lug. Or the armor? It weren't wolves that she took those from."

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Orrin grabs Lug gently by the back of his armor and attempts to pull him away from the woman a little, whispering in his ear.
"I'm with Lars on this one, big guy. The lady ain't what she seems."
He looks to the woman, and gives a curt nod of his head.
"Begging yer pardon ma'am, and thanks for the kindly offer...but I think we should be moving along, much as some of us might like to stay..."
At this he elbows Lug in the ribs as much in jest as an attempt to keep him from being swayed by woman's charms.

Lug tries to shrug off the attempts to hold him back. He adjusts his sword and smiles all friendly-like at the naked woman. "Well, hello again!" he says in as charming a voice as he can muster. "What can I do for you, naked—I mean, dear—lady?"
Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Go ahead and make a save vs. spells, please.
Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Roller is having problems, so Lug gets a reprieve for now. I won't be able to try again for a couple of hours.
Save vs. spell: [1d20-2] = 0-2 = -2

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
A very funny roll under the circumstances.

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Oddly appropriate, that.
If I looked up the numbers correctly, Lug has a 15% chance of making his save. *Gulp*
