Ok, no trying the tossing of torches.
"Looks like I can't even see the ground from here, Lars. I think just climbing down into the pool is the best bet. Let me get down there and then follow after."

March 25, 1 VC - 9:20am
The group gathers up the necessary adventuring supplies and ensures everything they'll be relying on is in good working condition, knotting the rope in advance and checking it for any weak spots after it's use yesterday.
Satisfied, they finally head into the cave and send their way back to the chute, spiking the rope in place and climbing down one by one. They come out into the chamber beyond with it's oddly iridescent water and find it unchanged from the day before.

Naila takes a torch from Lars and lights it."I sure hope we got all the spiders already." she says with a shudder.

Making his way slowly into the larger chamber beyond the chute, Orrin points out the pool with the gemstones in it to Lars and Lug.
"And there, deeper in the water, is the figure I saw. I think we should be careful."
Perhaps we use what's left of Lars' rope from before and the grappling hook? We could attempt to fish the armor out of the pool? It's either that or one of us swims for it. We might need to do that to collect the gems anyway. What do you think?
Looking up, he also points out the two holes which may or may not be further tunnels.
"Let's keep an eye on those."

Someone will need to swim for it to gather the gems. As for the armor, if it's animated or there is something/someone inside it I don't think my sleep spell will do any good. And if I'm the one to swim I can't cast while underwater. Dang I feel useless all of a sudden

Don't feel too useless...we wouldn't even be down here without that spell!

OK, so what's the plan?
Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Naila says, "I'll stand here and hold the torch and since Lars is still recovering, he stays with me. That leaves you two..." she gestures toward the Orrin and Lug ...to fish up the gems and armor. How's that sound?"

"Sounds good to me. Should we swim for it or try and fish it out with the grappling hook?"

"I like fishing," says Lug.

Naila says, "Maybe we should fish out the armor in case something happens we can at least fight it up here."

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Using the rope that had fallen down with the lantern on the first foray into the cave, Orrin borrows Lars' grappling hook and ties it to the end.
He wades a few feet into the water holding the hook, and bending down to see if he can catch a glimpse of the armoured figure in the depths. If he does, he will swing the hook out into the water and hope to catch it on the armor and drag it to the surface.
"Here, fishie, fishie, fishie..."

March 24, 1 VC - 9:40am
Surprise roll: Monsters: [1d6] = 4, Party: [1d6] = 2
Orrin wades out into the pool, rope in hand, looking to catch sight of the submerged figure. When the water clears for a moment, however, he doesn't see the figure at all. The rock formations on the bottom of the pool have shifted significantly, and appears to be moving. Before he can stock of the situation, the surface of the water mounds as a massive form surges forth to attack Orrin with a pair of long forelegs surrounding eight glittering multicolored eyes and a pair of slavering rock-colored mandibles.
Surprise vs Orrin [1d20] = 4, damage [1d6] = 1
Orrin manages to step aside as the creature rushes out to grab him, and as the water sloughs off it becomes visible as a massive, grotesquely malformed spider, multi-colored like stones dappled by reflections from the surface of water, nearly like a crab in overall shape. It stands over four feet high and it's body is over two feet wide.
Actions and Initiative!

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Orrin growls out a warning to the rest of the party as the monstrous beast nearly takes hold of him.
"To me!"
If he has time to grab his hand axe, Orrin will attempt to swing at the hideous creature:
{Hand Axe} Attack: [1d20 +1] = 19+1 = 20, Damage: [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5
I balled up the initiative roll the last time, someone else take a crack at it!

Lars raises his crossbow, but without a clear shot does not fire. Instead he lowers the crossbow and draws his sword to advance.
Attack with Longsword: [1d20-1] = 10-1 = 9 Damage: [1d8-1] = 2-1 = 1
A more accurate description is that Lars gets in the way of the more experienced warriors. If someone gets hit, he'll do his best to pull you out of danger next round.

Round One Summary
Enemy Initiative [1d6] = 4
Water spider vs. Orrin [1d20] = 7, damage [1d6] = 3
The mottled spider attacks Orrin once again, but it seems more suited to surprise attacks from the water and its movements are ungainly, allowing Orrin an opportunity to skip out of the way before he is grabbed.
Those who had their eye on the recesses above see three more of the brown-gray hairy spiders from before scurry out on to the ceiling of the room, waiting for an opportunity to pounce.
Thankfully, Naila's initiative roll allowed her the chance to see the enemies arriving and to include them in the weave of her spell. All of them are affected by the spell, and fall to the ground from their perches on the ceiling.
Spider saves [3d20s16] = 0
The spiders take 6, 7, and 8 points of falling damage respectively, and the injury wakes them up from their magical sleep. The large water spider appears completely unfazed by the magic.
Orrin and Lug counter-attack against the massive arachnid, dealing huge injuries to its legs and back as it attempts to get back into the water where it is more maneuverable.
Spider1: 5 HP
Spider2: 7 HP
Spider3: 2 HP
Water Spider: 7 HP
