Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Ha! Now I'm truly curious!
In his sleep, Orrin dreams of being at a wild party, with visions of lanterns and firelight swinging around his head. He dreams of people shouting, and screaming, of furniture being smashed and thrown around the room. And he dreams of a stabbing. It isn't a really good party unless someone gets stabbed once or twice.
But Orrin is also dreaming of being itchy. He scratches at the back of his legs and his arms where the spiders from earlier in the day left their mark on him, even in death. Even now, safe and sound in his dreams the spiders come back to haunt him.

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Lars yells to his companions, though his voice turns more to a high pitched shriek from his panic. "To arms! We're under attack."
Save vs. Poison (14): [1d20] = 13
Lars starts to back away towards the mouth of the cave, knowing he could never take on three opponents at once. If the spiders pursue he slashes at the closest one.
Attack with Longsword: [1d20-1] = 16-1 = 15
Damage: [1d8-1] = 4-1 = 3
I'm glad you mentioned they were crab spiders; weaker poison should give me +2 to the save.
EDIT: Initiative: [1d6] = 6

Orrin mutters in his sleep.

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Round One Summary:
Lars manages to slash one of the legs off the foremost spider attacking him, while Naila comes up from behind and jabs her knife into the side of the monster's abdomen, coating her hand in viscous ichor. Lars calls out at the top of voice, hoping to wake his two stout and still-sleeping comrades so they can join the fray.
Spider vs. Lars [1d20] = 8, damage [1s8] = err
Spider vs. Lars [1d20] = 16, damage [1d8] = 4
Spider vs. Lars [1d20] = 5, damage [1d8] = 4
One of the spiders succeeds in evading Lars' strikes and gets its mandibles into his arm, tearing a huge and bloody wound there (4 damage) which causes Lars to collapse into a heap, the color draining from his face. No need to roll vs. poison, since you've successfully saved, but Lars is in critical condition and needs stabilizing this round.
Thankfully, his calls have successfully woken the rest of the party and they may act this round.
Actions and initiative!
Status:
Spider 1: 2 HP
Spider 2: 10 HP

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Orrin bolts upright, and blearily takes in the scene around him.
"You gotta be kidding me..."
He sees Lars' unmoving form lying on the ground, and springs into action.
"Naila, see to him! Quickly!"
Lifting his axe, Orrin lets out a feral yell and swings at the nearest spider.
Initiative: [1d6] = 2
{Hand Axe} Attack: [1d20 +1] = 15+1 = 16, Damage: [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6
sorry about that initiative roll!!

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
Round Two Summary:
Enemy Initiative [1d6] = 3
The heavily-injured spider that had led the attack against Lars goes to work on his unconscious body, binding one of his legs to its abdomen by a wire-like strand of silk. It then turns its back firmly on Naila and makes for the cave entrance, allowing her a chance to knife it as it retreats:
Naila vs. spider [1d20] = 11, damage [1d4] = 4
She hits (with her +2 bonus for a full retreat), slaying the spider with an overhand thrust just as another spider attempts to grab her as well. She breaks free of the creature's attack and is able to bind Lars' grievous injury.
Spider vs. Naila [1d20] = 2, damage [1d8] = 4
The last spider turns on Lug, the most imposing figure, with the intent to maim or kill and drive the party off, but its attack is ineffective and Lug brings his weapon down on the thing's head, killing it instantly. Orrin advances on the spider attacking Naila and manages to significantly injure it.
Spider vs. Lug [1d20] = 3, damage [1d8] = 2
Spider 2: 4 HP

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
March 23, 1 VC - 9:50pm
Orrin buries his hand axe deep in the thorax of the last spider, finishing it off before it can pin Naila to the ground as it was intent on doing. Naila slashes the silk strands binding Lars and checks him over for other wounds, finding only the one in his shoulder that seems gory but not especially life-threatening. Lars, however, is in need of shelter, warmth, and longer-term rest if he is going to recover from his current wounds.

Do we have time to look for loot before we Lug Lars back?
Also, how far are we from town?

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
The rain is still falling and you ended up where you are because you're a bit lost. But you guess at least two days from town even if you can find your way quickly.
Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
So, if I understand the new rules, we spend the night here as planned, use magical healing in the morning, rig up something stretcher-like to carry Lars back, and hope we heal more HP than he loses in two days of travel?

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
you just gotta hope we are done with spiders for now. Do we have any magical healing? I think we bed down for the night, we still have to check for loot in the cave.

Re: Expedition - Lars/Finger of Doom - 19 March, 1 VC
I don't believe you have any magical healing on hand.
But yes, at the very least he needs to have the night to rest and stabilize his condition before he's moved very far.
