Crivit pours a quart of oil in his lantern and lights it, holding the lantern aloft behind her as she probes the cave.

Constance warily creeps behind the others as they enter the cave...

Adrik nods, his eyes a little unfocused, at the prospect of a little more exploration and the promise of healing on the morrow. "Whatever you say," he mumbles through dry lips, and thanks Constance for her ministrations on his wounded forearm. Glancing at the corpses of the wolves before he enters the cave behind his companions, he grumbles low in his throat and spits into the dirt. Anyone within earshot can clearly hear words like "mangy" and "good-for-nuthin'," but the rest of it is lost in his beard.

When Adrik gets closer to her, Krysta takes a look at him and whispers, "I have some minor healing gifted to me by Pelor. Do you need it before we go further?"

Adrik nods to Krysta and says, "I appreciate the concern, but I don't think I need it right this very moment." Glancing around at the rest of the group, he adds, "You never know if we might need it later for someone else." Noting the holy symbols of his two faithful companions, he mutters, "Gods forbid, of course...."

Krysta nods at Adrik's words and says, "Stay close to me...just in case. Pelor's light will protect us."

March 29, 1 VC - 3:30pm

The adventurers move into the entrance to the den, which is little more than an eroded hollow under the cliffside. The wolves were living in close quarters here, and the place is musky and foul smelling to their relatively sensitive noses. A pile of filth in the back of the den turns out to be a nearly eaten goblin corpse, with the shreds of its armor still lying in bits around the den floor, but a few items have survived the wolves' hunger:

A silvery short-sword of obvious dwarven make.
A dozen silver coins (12sp)
A short broad-bladed dagger also of dwarven make, very finely crafted
A mail helm, slightly dirtied with gore but not damaged or tarnished--sized for a dwarf but could fit a dwarf, elf or human

Trying not to gag from the stench, Krysta says, "Feh! Gather what we can and let's get out of here! I'm gonna need another bath to get the stink off me!"

Adrik eyes the materials of dwarven make with a very keen eye. "By Moradin's beard, how did they get here?" Checking to see if anyone would otherwise object, he reaches out and at least hefts the shortsword in order to inspect its engravings.

Constance sighs with relief that there are no further threats awaiting her friends within the cave. "Oh, the stench doesn't bother me, dear," she explains to Krysta as she helps the other gather the loot. "Years cleaning my master's musty old tower have dulled my senstivity to bad scents!"

She watches Adrik closely as he inspects the sword. "A fine weapon," she insists. "Do those engravings hold significance to your people, I wonder?"

The sword bears relatively common dwarven rune engravings indicating strength and durability, usually employed to lend those qualities to the blade in question and guarantee it doesn't snap in half when using it to parry an enemy's blow.

"Perhaps these wolves can serve Veles in the underworld" says Crivit. "The stench in here is awful, but this den is an easily defensible position. Perhaps we camp just outside?" he suggests.

"Adrik, you bled for these boons. I have no objection to you handling the items."

The helm attracts the pudgy cleric's attention. "I can pray for Veles to grant me the power to detect magical aurae tomorrow. Perhaps it's best if we wait to don these items until we know they are safe."

"As long as we're upwind,"Krysta says, covering her nose and backing out of the cave to get some fresh air.

Once they have decided on what to do, Krysta "blesses" Adrik with healing from Pelor. (CLW)

Is the consensus to camp here, then?

Constance would be fine with camping here.

March 30, 1 VC - 8:00am

The party camps near the den at the bottom of the valley, out of sight from several sides and in an easily defensible position against potential melee attackers.

Thankfully, nothing seems inclined to attack them during the night, and they prepare to break camp in the morning in relatively good spirits.

Deduct one day's rations each please.

Constance rises much earlier than the others--by dawn's light she has already begin tidying up the cave. "I do love a challenge," she explains, sweeping the remains of the goblin up with other detritus near the front of the cave, mostly using her pole and sack to move things.

When the group decides to make camp, Krysta casts a cure wounds spell on Adrik.

The next morning, Krysta rises early for prayer, watching the sun rise as she asks for Pelor's blessings for a new day and safe travels. She also prays to renew her healing spell.

Weird, my last post didn't take.

"Thank Veles for another wonderful day!" proclaims Crivit. "Friends, I'm afraid I must head back to Vaul. I'm nearly out of food, which just won't do for me" he says, absentmindedly patting his ample belly. "Besides, there's a festival, a great chance for me to pay homage to my lord."

After he helps prepare to leave, he prays for the power to Cure Light Wounds.
