OOC VIII
Re: OOC VIII
If it were me, I would let Thurgan take point until he takes some big hits or loses his AC boost.
Shit, I said I was going to stop kibbitzing. So much for that idea.

Let's just hope they aren't rings of Acid and Fire Resistance!Wyzard wrote: Steal the rings, btw.![]()

Re: OOC VIII
Definitely - its only 4 rounds but being hard to hit and going first will help a lot.Atlictoatl wrote:That's a great strategic plan.

If Thurgan's AC is that good for a finite number of rounds, maybe he should take "point" and Tev can swap in when Thurgan's AC resets, assuming the fight takes time. It would be a shame for Tev to need Thurgan to relieve him right when Thurgan's AC goes back to 2.
I'd initially thought Tev was going to get full benefit from his weapon mastery, but since the troll is unarmed, Tev gets just the Deflect 1, not the AC -2. If the Deflect is more useful than Thurgan's low AC, then Tev should definitely stay in the "point" position. (By which, I mean be the guy trying to take the brunt of the attacks.)

I'm hoping there's some advantage to getting behind this critter. Even if only to sling oil at it while Tev distracts it.MonsterMash wrote:Definitely - its only 4 rounds but being hard to hit and going first will help a lot.Atlictoatl wrote:I'd initially thought Tev was going to get full benefit from his weapon mastery, but since the troll is unarmed, Tev gets just the Deflect 1, not the AC -2. Re: OOC VIII
Al, we're fast forwarding three rounds, so that's what you've got to position your troops. Actually, you've got a bit more time than that: the solo warg unit moves three endeavor round, and at the end of Round Nine they're still four rounds from your *current* (Round Six) position. However, the orc, ogre and gnolls units have gotten somewhat closer.

Ok... I might have that straight. We'll see...thirdkingdom wrote:Al, we're fast forwarding three rounds, so that's what you've got to position your troops. So just the one warg in the unit? Or when you say "solo" do you mean as in just one unit of X troops? If the latter, can Rhys see how many are in the unit?

Well, darn. 'Trollslayer' had a certain ring to it, but that came off more as Trollmugger.
At least the dang water threat is now removed.

Re: OOC VIII
OK, I'm back. Looks like we've (mostly) survived the first clash. And made quick work of the troll too - nice! Time now to deal with the warg riders and see where we stand after that.
Lol. If I had a fire spell to study maybe. No Burning Hands though, and no 3rd level spells yet!Atlictoatl wrote:Is this the part where we send Quint into town with all of the collected loot and ask the troll to wait a week while Quint studies a spell?

Re: OOC VIII
Al, I think we should retreat back towards the town walls (within bow range so they can support us) and maybe slightly to the west to meet the warg unit. Should be able to deal with it before the other units reach us from the north. You suggested that our command units be in front for that. A bit risky, but it might help increase morale before the next wave of enemy troops engage.
Re: OOC VIII
Yeah, that works for me. Let's use one of the units to move the chest and make our way back to the gate area.Koren n'Rhys wrote:Al, I think we should retreat back towards the town walls (within bow range so they can support us) and maybe slightly to the west to meet the warg unit. Re: OOC VIII
If we need to retreat, we can. We've hurt them quite a bit more than they've hurt us, and without the lake troll they can't effectively blockade us from crossing the river to harass them on the other side. This is a win for us right now.
I want to kill the Wargs, but I want to keep our valuable units (and DEFINITELY the PCS) alive more.
Like, we still have a bunch of sleep spells. We could retreat, wait until afternoon, and then cross the river to kill all those orcs.

This is a good idea.Wyzard wrote:Like, we still have a bunch of sleep spells. We could retreat, wait until afternoon, and then cross the river to kill all those orcs.
The other possibility, should we choose to remain on the field a bit longer, is that we might distract enemy forces enough for the Baron's men to muster from their location.
That said, I'm most in favor of minimizing casualties and keeping the enemy off-balance. This could become a war of attrition of morale, as we whittle away at them and strengthen the morale of our own troops.

Re: OOC VIII
I like the idea of taking down the Wargs if we can as it seriously damages the opponents mobility, pretty much everything else is on foot so they don't have the ability to stop us using mounted movement to really disrupt them without the wargs.

Yeah, I think we need to take out the Wargs while we're out here. Maybe then retreat into town and regroup, rejigger troop divisions if need be.

Re: OOC VIII
This may have gotten lost in the prep for the battle, but Casria did mention that she was coordinating with the troops in the Keep. No one followed up on it, so I didn't elaborate IC.Atlictoatl wrote:This is a good idea.Wyzard wrote:Like, we still have a bunch of sleep spells. Re: OOC VIII
Well, good. Let's try and jerk the bad guys around a little bit. I think we'll know a lot more about how far we can push this after 2 or 3 more rounds.
Re: OOC VIII
Sorry for low activity lately. Have been swamped at work and home the last few days. Will try to get something posted tonight. Koren, if you can get something up sooner, then by all means, do so!
Thanks,
Al
