Inside Diner

“Roof?” John says, pointing at Chance, “Now I like that idea! Regardless of what is going on, being up there will afford us a space envelope away from any hysterical transients. Since most of our fellow citizens are overweight and out of shape, I gather not too many will fancy scaling the walls.”

3am

You hear a distant wailing of a siren. Police? Ambulance? Some emergency vehicle. It sounds like it is coming closer.

=================================

Barb the waitress disappears into the kitchen.

Flo looks like she found a radio and is trying to get it working.
Maybe this will work.

Mel looks around through the pick-up window.
Nobody's climbing on the roof. What's wrong with you?

Flo turns the radio back and forth, some stations are playing music, others are speaking nonsense, one has a man screaming. She finally settles on a channel.

Flo the waitress
I think its the President....or somebody important.

==============================

The radio broadcast.

My fellow Americans.
Im sorry to report that despite our best efforts, this disease has broken through our containment measures. It is no longer safe to inhabit large cities. Safe zones are being set on the outskirts of highly populated areas and will provide aid to those who are not infected.
Rescue teams have been dispatched to escort people to safety. Until then, do everything you can to avoid those infected. Friends and family that are infected will not behave in a rational manner. Avoid them.
Please try and remain calm, as to what I am about to say will be hard to accept. This disease is reported to be transmitted by bodily fluids. Possibly blood, saliva or both. Those infected will seek out victims to bite and spread the infection further.
Those infected will soon succumb to the disease and expire, only to rise back up and seek out the living. Yes, the dead appear to be coming back to attack the living. This is not a joke. I apologize that the President could not be here, he is in the process of being transferred to a secure location. Further information will be given as it is made available.
May God be with us all.

The loop continues and plays the message over again.

Transmitted through fluids, huh? Told you guys I wasn't infected. On the security issue, I like the idea of trying to move the dumpsters to block the windows. There is too much glass for my liking.

Looking at the waitress, Flo, Any chance we can get some sharp knives, a cleaver or something? Anything we can use to help defend ourselves. I think we better start preparing now. If any of those ... things ... show up here and we're not ready for them, we might not make it.

Flo plays with the radio.

The best defense in this situation is to remain in your home and await evacuation teams. Avoid those infected at all costs. If you are forced into an altercation with an infected individual, the only thing that will have an effect is trauma to the cranium. If you are forced to defend yourself from a loved one, do so as you would from a complete stranger. Your family member will not respond to any attempts at reason. Avoid being bitten.
All military personnel overseas is being recalled immediately. Reports are coming in from other countries around the globe. This is a world-wide phenomenon. China and India have declared martial law, as the disease is running rampant there. If we do not....

The station suddenly turns to static.

John moves back from the window and addresses the occupants of the diner. “Well then, I guess that settles the speculation. Not sure if I believe the ‘dead walking’ thing, but a contagion is a contagion! Now then, Mr. Proprietor,” he says with a nervous smile as he approaches Mel. “What was that about the roof again?”

Mel comes out of the kitchen.
Cant climb on the roof. This is an old diner. I don't even have a ladder. I call a repair guy if I got a problem. That a siren?

The siren sound seems louder.

Chance salesman

Chance sidles up to John the camera man. He whispers. "I'm pretty good with staff weapons. I'll see if I can find one."

"Flo, Mel, can I get a mop? Cleaning sooths me when I'm stressed."

I'm pretty sure the only people that know the biker was bitten are the other bikers.

There is a small chance (ha!!) that he could have noticed it. I'll roll perception.
62- failed.
Chance has not seen the Bikers wound, he has not really interacted with them yet. I'll modify the post.

Flo & Mel look at Chance like he is crazy. (Imagine if you were in a diner and asked to mop the floor- try it sometime. ;) )

Mel diner owner
Mel mutters then nods his head towards the bathroom area.
I don't have time for this shit. Over by the restrooms. Hey Norm! Come clear these tables.

Norm the busboy comes out from the back and gets to work.
Barb went out the back.
He says to Mel as he walks by.

Flashing lights grab your attention.
The siren is nearby and you see a speeding Ambulance heading towards the diner.

John acknowledges Chance, “Good idea. See what other ‘weapons’ you can find.”

He slides up to Derek, speaking at a volume to only he can hear,“I think we should find a way to climb onto the roof without alerting the Fat Man of our intentions.”

"Holy shit!" cries Chance as he sees the ambulance coming towards the diner, siren growing in volume.
I assume it's not driving to the diner, but at the diner.

He runs to get in a position to avoid the ambulance, jumping the counter if it offers more protection.

Chingy the Biker
Inside Diner

After downing several pitchers of beer and watching the chaos unfold, Chingy and friends get up from their table and head for the back door of the diner, heading for their bikes. He says to Tiny and Whitey Watch out for these crazies going all John Wayne up in here as we head outside. I got a little desert for us in the saddlebags of my scoot.

Unless stopped, (or run over by a runaway ambulance) the bikers head outside for a few hits off the pipe. (it is the Outlaw way)

Watching the ambulance speed towards the Diner, Steve gauges it's path and moves accordingly. "What's this guy doing?"
