"That is a complex illusion, having many moving parts," says Biblo. "There is no sound, which would be odd and lead to doubts. Even if they did believe, it may force their retreat deeper in, which would tiresome. If they fought the phantasm, their touch would dispel it. Illusions can be challenging to execute, but work well when done right."FronkyDondo wrote:CoppishGrognardsw wrote:Biblo the illusionist stands to the back, considering what phantasm to summon should the kobolds be more than the stalwart fighters can handle.
"Methinks the Illusionist will provide our greatest advantage. Bilbo - can you create a crowd of Goblin Soldiers? Maybe even with some townsfolk - that might cause them to rethink their ploy - maybe even surrender?"
He is about to go on about technique and real-time maintenance of illusions but thinks better of it.
Re: Chpt. 2 Kobold Prisoners & Prisoners of Kobolds
The two kobold prisoners back away from the door upon seeing the oil barrels being brought in.
How many barrels are brought in? Barrel total right now is 8.
The more outspoken kobold offers his best advice to the party. "Let goblins out! They hate us kobolds and go after them. They want revenge for us taking their home and starving them. While they fight kobolds, burn them all!" He looks more than happy to offer this information when explaining how to sabotage his fellow kobolds, apparently having lost all love and loyalty for them. His little friend nods with a grin, agreeing that would be a great idea.
Majority vote and since LilacBird screeches the loudest, I will flip the map from now on so north is up.

Llewellyn DeNonce, Attorney-Assassin, likes the way these kobolds think. He considers recommending that Howard, Howard, and Fine hire them as law clerks if they survive.

Trendt to the two Kobolds first then relayed back so the party can understand him "Just how do you expect us to ensure the goblins will charge to where the kobolds are? How are we to block the entrance to the cave? How would we make the goblins aware of what location your now enemies are in?"

Fanxyl-Ranger/ I believe we enough oil? What is our plan? I say fill the room the Sam and Trendt are in set the doors so that they can eventually break through. Then light it with fire arrows or throw lit lamp when they bust into the room.

Coppish are you able to make a illusion of all or some of us in the room with the oil. As we take cover in the next room. When they go after the illusions we toss in the lantern.

"Sammy's idea sounds good. We don't really have to unblock the door. Just pour oil under it and set it on fire. They are still directly behind the door. When mayhem starts unblock the door and roll in one or two more and set them on fire with arrows."
Assuming we have at least 3 barrels rolled in and ready to use.

FanxylYes but they can come into this room and my gear is safe hopefully in the next room. As long as one of the dogfaces isn't using it.

repeats his earlier general statement that "I can light them, or we can get some arrows wrapped up with fiery cloth to shoot the barrels with, either way?" but now with an upward tonal shift at the end, suggesting that it is now more of a direct question to the group

Trendt "Good idea Sammy, but I might have an addition to that. Any of you spell hurlers got a fireball spell? We do the oil under the door roll in a live barrel and some magic perhaps." the dwarf says with a wide grin.

Re: Chpt. 2 Kobold Prisoners & Prisoners of Kobolds
"These plans are getting more and more complicated," observes Llewellyn. "I'll add one more: I could try to rig up a fire & oil trap. Spread the oil on the floor up to the door, put a candle or torch above the door rigged to a wire and catch on the door. The kobolds open the door, the candle or torch falls on the oil—and fwoosh!"
"Mind you, I don't think we have time to rig that up, but I thought I'd offer it as a possibility."

Re: Chpt. 2 Kobold Prisoners & Prisoners of Kobolds
While the others discuss plans, Adel, still hiding, looks along the walls in case he gets trapped. He looks for a ledge 7 feet or higher that he can climb to in case he's surrounded by kobolds.
Re: Chpt. 2 Kobold Prisoners & Prisoners of Kobolds
Adel quickly scans the room while completely invisible. This place is literally dismal and there is nothing on the walls save 5 torches. There is a very small ledge above the door that he could reach by jumping on top of the iron cage and the rock walls are rough enough for any thief type to make a good climb. The ledge over the door is only 10' up.
Corun answers Fanxyl while he plunks a hole into a barrel and directs the oil under the door. "Yes! I saw your gear. Actually, I think it's far enough away that it won't get hurt because this whole floor continues sloping down and your gear is in the northwest corner of that room. The oil will be going west and down. OK. Light it!" He has emptied one barrel and moves back away from the door.
The thumping and jeering on the other side of the door slowly begins to move the iron cage now that oil has made the way slippery. With each hit on the door, the cage moves about an inch. The kobolds continue shouting through the door, seemingly oblivious of what's going on, or too intent on getting through that they haven't yet noticed the oil. "What's wrong, filthy humans? Has the stinking of your elves got your tongue? Has the dirty stench of your dwarves choked you off? Let us out and face us! This is your end and you will face it! Your deaths will not be fast! You will know what it means to pray for death once we get our hands on you! Each statement is made by a different voice.
Freddie wraps cloth around two arrows and dips them in the oil before lighting the oil on the ground and backing away, saving the two fire arrows for a later time. The fire travels to the door, under the door, then there is hysterical screaming and a different kind of thumping against the door as though the kobolds are now fighting with each other to get out of there, but from how many had been counted, some are obviously trapped against the door. In just moments, the entire wooden door catches on fire.
I'll assume there are a total of 4 barrels in here since Trendt called for another one.

Trendt continuing his dwarvish grin "I'm starting to like how you think lawyer. Perhaps we try that on the goblins if we survive this." yes 4 trying to save what we have left for goblins.

The fire warming the air around him, Adel's hand becomes damp and slick with sweat as he grips his spear, waiting in the shadows for flaming kobolds that may come.

when realising nobody at all seems to be listening to his ideas on lighting oil barrels, his odd anti-door rage (see earlier unproductive storage room door attack) again resurges. He charges towards the door on fire, sword held high, without really thinking
