Hello, all!
Hello, all!
I'll start off this new forum. I'm Tonixx, and I'm the admin around here. I play in a couple PbP games here, and am the GM of another. If you need any help with the forums or the dice roller, let me know by sending a PM, or post in the Help and Support area.
If you are looking for a game to play in, we've got 'em and there usually is an opening in one or more of them.
And finally, if you'd like to run a game here, send me a PM with the campaign title and I'll have you set up within a few hours if not less.
Welcome to the Unseen Servant forums!

Howdy ToniXX,
This PBP-focused forum is great and the dice-roller is a Godsend.

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Thanks for the kudos, all. I was absent for a couple weeks with work and family woes, but I'm back and on track now. I just set up a new game and there are room for many more! Keep 'em coming and I'm glad everyone is enjoying the site.

Re: Hello, all!
To add to the others; thanks for the great site Tonixx!
I'm Max...I've been playing/running AD&D games for somewhere around 20 years now (I'm in my mid 30s) and am a HUGE fan of 1st and 2nd Edition AD&D and getting into BECMI games.
I'm playing in several on these sites and am starting to seriously consider running a game myself, but I figure maybe I ought to wait until some of the current games either end or slow down a bit. I notice quite a few people are in a lot of these games (I'm in 3 myself and about to join a fourth!
).....so maybe I should just relax for a bit!
Thanks again for the site and thanks to everyone for running great games and playing interesting and fun characters!

I guess I should have added that I feel like I should wait as I'd like some of the great gamers (such as you two) on this site to be in any game I run and I think my chances would be better if I wait a bit!

(Is my nose a little brown?)

Formal Introduction
Oh, right... formal introduction.
Alethan here. You can call me Al... if you'll be my bodyguard. "Al" isn't at all like my RL name, but it's cool having such a disassociated nickname, so I'm fine with it.
I'm 39. I'm sarcastic. But hopefully it's a funny sarcasm. I try to inject a bit of wit or humor into everything I do.
Started off with the Holmes basic rules and the Mentzer Expert rules back in jr. high school. Played and DM'd with them and 1e actively for several years. In college, my friends and I always had a few games going - 1e, Warhammer, Rifts, Vampire the Masquerade, and Cthulu, primarily. We never got into any D&D above 1e, though.
Over the last three years or so, I've dabbled in some 2e games. They're... tolerable. I've lurked some PbP forum games using 3.5e and 4e. Could barely stand to even lurk them, to be honest with you. Can't see myself playing them any time in the next 70 years or so. I'm old school at heart.
With work and family, I don't really have any time for FtF games these days. A few years ago, though, I found the joys of PbP and have been hooked ever since. I have not yet jumped into DMing a PbP game - my DM hat is very dusty, to put it kindly - but I love playing me some PbP. I actively participate (or have and would so again) in games using the following rule systems: OD&D, B/E, BECMI, Labyrinth Lords, OSRIC, Eyre Tor, DCC, Grindhouse, Adventures Dark and Deep, and, of course, 1e. When it comes down to it, as long as it is some form of rule-lite game, I'm probably interested in at least considering it.
Of course, a good PbP game is highly dependent upon interaction between all of the players and the DM of that particular game. So if I don't feel the chemistry is right, I'm perfectly happy to drop a game after a short time. No sense in wasting my time with a game I don't enjoy. I'm fully aware that my personality is sometimes... abrasive. I guess you should be aware of that, as well. But, for the most part, I'm a happy, amicable guy.
I'm usually active (PbP games only, not much for forum trolling) on several forums, though at the moment I seem to just be on ODD74 and here.
I try to instill different personalities into all of my characters, but most of them tend to share a trait of being reckless to some degree. The way I look at it, you can always roll up a new character. That said, I have become attached to a few of them (currently have four or five characters on PbP forums that are 2+ years old).
I'm a writer by trade and one of my favorite kinds of documentation is logical, step-by-step procedural stuff. I'm fairly adept at using the US Dice Roller and am one of the more prolific users of the forum, so if you ever have any questions about how either functions, just shoot me a PM or post a question on the appropriate thread and I'll be happy to provide some assistance.
(And I've said it many times before, but I'll say it again here formally and officially...)
This PbP Forum is amazing. It is great because of all the people who are on it. But it wouldn't be possible without ToniXX. So thanks to you, all of the players and DMs. And thanks to you, as well, ToniXX.

Re: Hello, all!
Thanks dmw! I hope that it won't be too long before some players become "free"...though of course, I'm certainly not wishing any harm on anybody's existing PCs!
As for what I'm planning to run; I'll just say it's an old-school module that nobody is running yet on these boards....and I'm hoping things stay that way!

Re: Hello, all!
I never introduced myself...
My actual name is Dave... I played 1e ( at least I assume it was, never really asked or knew there were other versions...) in HS in the 80s. Ocassionally we would play Twilight2000 or some other game as well. Never DMd, so didnt get too involved in understanding the mechanics beyond what my characters did. In fact, IIRC, the DM did most of our rolling, so I didnt pay much attention to throws, etc.
I took 20 years off due to not realizing forum based d&d existed. (It probably didnt in the early 90s)... My old DM invited me here to join a now fizzled game he was joining last year. I lurked a while, but realized playing is more fun than watching...
Plus, I have two sons in elem school that I want to get hooked. Therefore I have to DM. And, I figure playing will force me to re-learn all that I had forgotten, so it will be easier to make their games smoother and more enjoyable.
I live in the Carolinas. I have regained my 'at work' access to the boards (hate web filters), so should be able to post at least once per day, and sometimes at night/weekend depending on my actual life.
The one thing I learned during the startup of the first game tried, is that I am antsy. So DMs (and fellow players), I apologize beforehand if I am pushing the game. Just PM me if need be.. I think joining 2-3 games at once will cure me of that, as I have things to ponder during down times of one game or another.

Re: Hello, all!
Hah welcome Dave! No worries we've got a couple of "antsy" players. It all works out in the end.
When we advertise games we should probably put more focus on post-rate than we do... but it's all fun and good so, as long as the players are happy.
Be well!!

Re: Hello, all!
Just getting started on here. Back to D&D after years away because my kids wanted to play. So, bought some 4e books because I heard it was simpler than 3e, which was when I lost interest 15 years ago. Ugh, too complicated, battles take too long, planning takes even longer, and where did the role playing go? Since the playtest came out, have been running them through Next, and we all love it by comparison. Much closer to the old-school feel. Also running some Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG for my older kids, but now I'm feeling the itch to play, not just be Daddy DM, and here I am. I've already chimed in on one possible game opening and am hopeful this will turn something up.
A little more about my gaming history: Cut my teeth on Basic, then 1e, and really sunk my teeth into 2e/Forgotten Realms back in the day. Strangely uninterested in 2e now, but maybe after playing some older stuff that will come back. Really looking to play OD&D to 1e, though I'm fine with retroclone rule sets. And very curious how pbp works out. Sounds like a blast!
Cheers!

You've come to the right place. A majority of the games run here are 1E (or OSRIC), but there is an existing 2E game as well as a B/X and BECMI game, with new games starting all the time.ragnboneshopper wrote:Strangely uninterested in 2e now, but maybe after playing some older stuff that will come back. I would highly recommend you check out the threads in the Tips for the Player section, especially the New To Play-by-Post Games? and Tips For New Play-By-Post (PbP) Players threads.
