I have arrived, now where the heck is the pizza?

#1 Post by atpollard »

OK, just kidding.
I just can't think of playing D&D (actually AD&D 1ed or 2ed) and not have flashbacks to coke and Pizza ... some sort of Pavlovian conditioning.

So I am not a spambot (sorry, this is my second post ... jumping in first and reading the rules later is a personality flaw of mine).
So, I am fifty something [begins counting on fingers ... 52!] and cut my teeth on AD&D 1ed and Car Wars before beginning a 30 plus year love affair with Traveller (Classic Traveller, MegaTraveller, The New Era, and recently Mongoose Traveller). I took a break from Traveller to become an Architect and get married and have a daughter ... that sort of stuff, but rediscovered my passion with the new millennium.

'rredmond' was visiting over at COTI and bragging on "The Unseen Servant", so I popped over to look around and say: 'Greetings gentle-beings'.

Welcome! Unseen Servant is a great group--I am quite new myself but have found everyone welcoming and the vibe is excellent, with a lot of very active and creative folks. I have a great time reading through games I have nothing to do with, so even if you're not looking for a game I can guarantee entertainment!

Hey atp! Welcome!
Actually I was emailing with one of the moderators over at COTI the other day, and they posted about the game for me. :) But bragging I was!!!

I'd be intrigued to hear more about Car Wars, there were folks addicted to that game, and I know nothing about it! Now AD&D 1E I know a fair amount about. :)

But welcome and greetings! I hope you do more than lurk, but you are welcome to take your time checking things out!

--Ron--
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

He is prone to doing that, it seems. He's like a boy coming home with frogs and worms in his pocket.

Er... maybe not the best analogy.

ANYWAY... welcome to the Unseen Servant! If you have any questions about anything, do feel free to ask. We're here to help!

If you're new to PbP gaming, then you might start with these threads...

Car Wars was my favorite addictive Apple IIe game when I was a kid (there were many). I think I "finished" it about five or six times from scratch.

I've always wondered about the old RPG rules for it and also thought the concept would play out very well in a more contemporary programming concept (online or single player).

My favorite Apple IIe game that DIDN'T work out so well was Wasteland. I wanted it to work so badly, but it was buggy as hell. Another game that could be rebooted with great results. It was a bit like playing a game based off of Mad Max.

Ron, recruiting someone to Unseen Servant?! Just kidding. He got me, too, however long ago it's been now.

Anyway, welcome aboard!

Greetings Arthur! I hope you enjoy the place, just pay no attention to MonkeyWrench's mountain of bread or his chatter of a rat king. ;)

I don't know about the rest of the players or the lurkers but I am having a blast as Alanis. Crazy elf!
