5. A Surprise Party?
Re: 5. A Surprise Party?
The rest timer did reset.
Note that the duration of a rope trick is 2 turns/level. That's 80 minutes at Fendt's level.

Re: 5. A Surprise Party?
Robert helps the gang out cleaning up the mess and getting things back in order.
Robert says, "Once I can rest it will take 6 hrs of rest then time to study my spells. At least part of my watch is done. Let's get this reorganized and get everyone settled down again to sleep."
I will be on vacation from (9/1 to 9/7 but I may be able to post from my phone. I sometimes don't get updated even though I'm subscribed to the forums.

Agrippo guards the staircase as others, including an unseen servant, clean up all the zombie parts and throw them in the fire. The rotten flesh creates a nasty, smoking stench. The smoke leaves the castle through the chimney. If only the stench would do the same.
You discuss whether you should press on despite your injuries or try to resume your rest, knowing that the casters will have to start their rest periods anew. Agrippo suggests moving on, but Robert wants to get some sleep.

Robert says, "I am ok with moving on but my spells will not be as effective until I am able to rest and meditate for new spell."
Robert prepares himself for either case. His gear is ready to go and he guards if the other stay to rest.

Re: 5. A Surprise Party?
"I am split on whether to continue or not," says Vorkath. Perhaps the paladin feels slightly winded as he has been up and non-stop for close to 24 hours now, though he does not say such. "Perhaps we give another chance at rest, for having our magic-users at full capacity would increase our chances of success in dealing with Strahd and his devilish minion!" Clenching his fist at this last statement, eyes sparkling as he looks into the fire, casting a heroic shadow, then yawning.

Re: 5. A Surprise Party?
Iluq sets both hammers back onto his waist, attaching at the belt. He heads over to the door and looks out the hallway, "I think we should stop and rest, I want to destroy the evil in this place but I refuse to needlessly risk the lives of my companions to do so. Let us rest and recover, this place will be here when we are ready." a worried expression crosses the compassionate clerics face, perhaps he still thinks of Ireena?

Re: 5. A Surprise Party?
Tibbius casts his vote for resting as well. He knows there isn't much he can do without his spells. Unless of course the party wants him shooting off that damn wand at every encountered enemy.

Robert says"Ok, rest it is then. Let's secure ourselves in here again and block these entrances/exits and settle in for the night."

You decide to rest in the study again. You close the door the zombies had broken open, move the couch back in front as a barrier, and settle down again to sleep. You hear nothing from Gertruda's room. Perhaps she accepted Tibbius's reassurance and went back to bed. Fendt and Robert stand guard again.
You get a couple of hours of uninterrupted sleep in what seems to be Ravenloft Grand Central before you once again hear something outside one of the doors. The south door thumps once, then you hear a man's voice, low and raspy.
"Damn thing'r stuck!" it says.
"He must be in there! Bust it open!" answers a second man, his voice high and nervous.

Robert starts waking the others quietly.
Robert says as he shakes the others,"We have company, but the seem humanoid."

Re: 5. A Surprise Party?
Agrippo will signal to Vorkath, (being the most charismatic) to either open the doors and grab whoever is on the other side or challenge them to identify themselves. "He must be in here? Obviously Strahd servants, can't think any other heroes are about. That or thieves perhaps?"

Tibbius turns over and tries to continue sleeping through the noise. He is content to let the pretty one handle any late night pleasantries.

Fendt Mace out again walks over to the door and awaits Vorkath.

Re: 5. A Surprise Party?
Vorkath, pretty paladin
Vorkath hears the knocking. He brushes back his blond hair from his blue eyes, grips the hilt of Excommunicator, nods his squared chiseled chin at Agrippo, extends his detect evil sense beyond the doorway, then opens the door.

You take up weapons—all except Tibbius, who tries to sleep through the noise. Vorkath primps as best he can under the circumstances and, by the by, tries to detect whether evil lies on the other side of the door. Sensing none, he removes the spike jamming the door shut and swings it open.
Three villagers tumble into the room. The largest of them, a fat black-haired man with a big moustache and a stubbly beard, carries a butcher's knife in one hand and a rolling pin in the other.
The second, a scrawny, nervous-looking guy, holds a torch with both hands like a club.
The third is a younger man with long hair and a vacant expression. He waves a pitchfork around.
"Where'e be? Where'e be?" demands the larger man, looking about the study.
"WE'RE HERE TO KILL STRAHD!" shouts the scrawny man at the top of his squeaky voice.

"He went that way" Agrippo will say pointing to the door down the staircase, and then mumble something about country bumpkins and cannon fodder...

Tibbius of the Divan
Humph......er...........eh? Tib spies the scrawny feller through one squinted eye. He then rolls over and falls back asleep, humming a strange but catchy whistling tune in his head while he does so.
