Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light
Re: Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light
The skirmish is quickly resolved as the fighters of the group hack and slash the rest of the huge spiders. Though the spiders proved faster in combat, their attacks were easily dodged and deflected. You can hear the sound of something scuttering away in the distance, after the fight is over. Captain Hal, not quite having had his fill of spider guts yet, pushes through the others and starts to pursue the remaining spider. "There is one left, after it!" The captain cuts his way through the webs, opening up a path for the group.
I am going to be preparing a new map for you guys to continue where you left off on the other. And hopefully the next few sequences will bring you all closer to the end of this storyline.

Rand follows the group as they march behind the captain, he is eager to be done with this place and breath fresh air again.

Re: Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light
Whitsell follows the captain, ready to attack should the fleeing spider turn back.

Sunshine
Sunshine says Captain! Wait!
He steps in front of The Cpt. and launches 2 more arrows at the fleeing spider.
Chasing that thing in there just feels wrong he says after his volley. Be careful.

Re: Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light
The captain stops his pursuit, but only long enough for Sunshine to fire in a couple of arrows safely. "You will do well to stay out of my way, elf! I do not have time to-" He stops abrupty as he makes his way around the corner. The group stops short behind him and looks to see what made him stop. Just ahead, in a room illuminated by sacs of glowing spider eggs, stands a Giant Spider. The wounded Huge Spider pairs up with it and proceeds in climbing up one of the heavily webbed walls. From what you can tell, based off of illumination frome the glowing egg sacs and the torch light in front of you, the room is large and open, circular in shape, the Giant Spider being directly in the center of it. The room is littered with piles of eggs and two more cocooned figures can be seen dangling from above.Dizlexus wrote:Sunshine

Actions and rolls please! Don't forget to roll for group initiative and remember, Flynn can act first due to his sleeping bonus from earlier in the day.

Re: Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light
Elithil is still paralyzed for this turn, but is showing signs of movement again. He will be able to get up and fight in the next round, albeit slowly.
The Giant Spider is about 30 ft away. Missile attacks can be fired still and if you choose to charge, you can attack with a melee weapon in the same turn. It is facing in the group's general direction.

Re: Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light
Whitsell will not charge, but will have weapon ready for next round.

Quick on the draw, Flynn throws his dagger."Curse this nest of vile spiders!"
Deceidon fires two poisoned arrows.

Sunshine
Sunshine, shocked by the size of the newest spider, draws and fires his 2 "treated arrows".
Bow [1d20+6] = 20+6 = 26 Damage [1d6] = 2
Bow [1d20+6] = 10+6 = 16 Damage [1d6] = 5
I erased my note on the poison -- Bill sold it to him in the Palace -- was the best stuff he had -- perhaps he can recall the detalis

Rand hangs back for the moment.

Re: Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light
The part of the corridor that Rand is in is still two persons wide for combat purposes. The path quckly starts to open up as you get to the front of the marching order, having plenty of room on both sides for many people. The earthen walls take on a funneled shape and eventually start to become circular.MonkeyWrench wrote:Rand hangs back for the moment.

I did not see a group initiative roll for the rest of the players, so I rolled for you. You and the spiders both tied in rolls, Flynn gets to go first however due to his sleep bonus.
Flynn starts the fight with an accurately thrown dagger, catching the Giant Spider's attention and sending it into a raging charge. (G. Spider loses 1 hp) Whitsell, having braced himself for an attack, meets the spider attack head on with defensive parry of his blade. The warrior clad in plate mail barely shrugs off the attack and creates an opening for everyone else.
Deceidon and Sunshine both fire a volley of treated arrows with mixed results. Deceidon's first arrow misses its mark and flies over the Giant Spider; meanwhile, Sunshine's first one is a critical success! Striking one of the leg joints on the Giant Spider, the elf is able to deal enough damage to render it useless, the poison tip already taking effect. The archer guard from behind shoots too high as well. (G. Spider loses 4 hp)
Seeing more room for his handiwork, the Captain steps up with longsword in hand and starts to hack the spider wildly, and just as wildly, misses.... The archers from behind shoot their second volley, again with mixed success. The archer guard in the back misses again, but thankfully, does not hit any allied combatants. Sunshine and Deceidon both strike the spider with their arrows, dealing combined poison damage. The giant arachnid reels back some and steps 10 ft away in its massive strides, arrows protruding out of its leg joint and thorax. (G. Spider loses 6 hp)
Within the limited torch light radius you have, you lose sight of the other wounded spider...
Actions and Rolls please!

Sunshine Presses
Sunshine grabs another wad of arrows in his right hand and continues to feed his bow -- till the thing is dead. Sunshine maintains a respectable distance.
Look out captain, the archers have this, he hollers.
Bow [1d20+6] = 20+6 = 26 Damage [1d6] = 1
Bow [1d20+6] = 13+6 = 19 Damage [1d6] = 4
He's on fire -- to bad no damage mods

Re: Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light
Whitsell will again parry if necessary, while the archers fire. He obviously doesnt want to get into melee if he can help it as long as the archers are firing from a safe distance.

Rand continues to hang back. Letting the archers have their moment and not getting in the way of the front line combatants.

Re: Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light
Flynn parries the spider blow and hews at the many-legged beast with his sword.
Deceidon lets loose another volley of arrows in the excitement, then realizes he should switch to melee weapons.

Re: Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light
Elethil, coming around from his poison encounter, decides that attacking the giant spider from a distance might be a good idea.

Re: Chapter 4: Shadows and Piercing Light
Player group wins initiative this round, Flynn acts first.
Flynn shows off his skill with the blade once more as he successfully parries the Giant Spider's attack and counterattacks with his own (G. Spider loses 3 hp).
Finding the arrow assault quite successful last round, the archers maintain their barrage with great excitement, and more mixed results. Sunshine's 'dungeon master' has quite the appetite and strikes ravenously at the spider's thorax with pinpoint precision, dealing critical damage; another leg joint goes out, and the spider's movement rate has fallen to 20 ft (G. Spider loses 2 hp). Deceidon's first arrow falls short, as well as the archer guard's and Elithil's. Out of the three arrows that missed, one of them finds its way into Captain Hal's back. He does not appear pleased by this and turns to the group with an expression that does most of the talking for him. Despite this injury, the captain's longsword attack still goes uninterrupted, though with not as much force as he would have liked (G. Spider loses 2 hp).
With the first sequence of attacks finished, a spider launches its self from its shadowy hiding spot from above and lands on Flynn! The swashbuckler struggles, but is not surprised and manages to only take a few scrapes here and there (Flynn loses 2 hp). With everyone else holding back on attacking, the archers peform their second volley and find it much more successful than the first. Sunshine's 'dungeon master' rips away another 4 hp from the spider, Elithil's short bow dealing a whopping 8 points of critical damage, and Deceidon's arrow piercing and bringing down the giant spider for another 5 points of damage.
All that remains in the area is a flailing, yet wounded, huge spider, currently attacking Flynn. Nice arrow rolls guys!
