Kernodle answers,
"Please, lets... oh and I have plenty of rope my friends. and a couple of hooks. That is, if we should require climbing out of here."

"Three possibilities gents," Luken says while squinting at the passages before him. "Maybe we start to the right?" he suggests. When no opposition is heard from behind him, the fighter lumbers on. The northeast passage is jagged and short, and Luken calls for a halt when he notices the passage dead end after only 20 or 30 feet.

Suddenly, a rapid rustling sound in front of group is heard. Surveying the space in front of him for the source of the sound, Luken is the first to spot a trio of giant white centipedes -- easily a foot in length each -- scurrying from their nest after apparently being disturbed. One quickly scampers directly at the fighter while the other two take to the walls and begin climbing towards the ceiling, which is roughly eight feet from the ground.

"Holy crap!" Abelard cries out, completely freaked out by the huge centipedes. If one of the two on the ceiling gets near him, he'll swat at it with his mace, hoping it works well as a bug-squisher.

"What abominations are these?!?"Mulvey realizes he's tall enough for his sword to reach the ceiling, so he'll draw his sword and hack at the first albino bug that heads his way.

Round 1

#147 Post by dmw71 »

The mere sight of the pigment-lacking creatures is enough to elicit gasps, but the group quickly takes to the offensive in hopes of dispatching the subterranean threat. Luken's sword swings wildly at the creepy white insect coming towards him; not only does this advancing centipede manage to avoid being cut in half, it also manages to sneak past the fighter's defenses, catching the large human in an exposed area. The multi-legged creatures which took to the wall do scamper past Luken and target those in the rear ranks. The insects never make it within Kernodle's range as Mulvey slices one and Abe bashes the other hideous fiend before they have a chance to cause any harm.

I guess my fall has shaken my head... my aim is not what it usually is. Luken will say with a broken smile. He will creep forward and check the nest with the tip of his sword.

Abelard lets out a sigh of relief as he sees his mace connect with the multi-legged horror, squashing it against the wall of the cave.

He looks around for more targets in his immediate vicinity, sees the one on Luken, and cries out,"It's still on you, man! Kill the bloody thing!"

Mulvey stoops to take a closer look at the dead nasty, and is called to attention by Abelard's cry. He looks for the critter on Luken. If it's safe to hack at the creature he will. If the creature is attached to poor Luken he'll call to him "Luken, want me to hack at it or burn it off?"

Roll for sword strike (otherwise, Mulvey will pull a torch from his pack and light it from Abe's lantern).

Ack?!? Feeling a burning pain and seeing his newly found comrades pointing out that there is still one on him Luken will try to brush it off with his sword: I am thinking it may have bit me! If you can get to it do so!

"I guess the fall has shaken my head..." Luken says with a broken smile. He swipes at the centipede still latched onto him, but is almost immediately stricken with a violent sickness and is unsuccessful at freeing himself. Mulvey, standing immediately behind the tumbling warrior, realizes the insect is still holding fast and quickly produces a torch from his pack, lighting it from Abe's lantern. The torch-bearing elf is successful at getting the centipede to release its clutch on the fallen fighter and the albino insect retreats back into the far recesses of the dead end where its nest is.

Luken, meanwhile, begins heaving uncontrollably and a heavy sweat breaks out on his brow.

"Damn it, he's been poisoned!" Abelard tries to push past Mulvey to get a better look at the man. He helps Luken to a sitting position.

Alas, there is nothing he can do but make sure he doesn't choke on his own vomit.

"If he makes it through the initial sickness, he should be OK. Otherwise..."

Mulvey, not very good in these situations, tries to calm Luken. "I'm sure you'll be fine. Just take a few slow deep breaths. But just in case, any next of kin in Seaside?"

Mulvey will look over to the nest. "We're going to need to sleep eventually, and I'll do so much better knowing there are no poison albino bugs around." If the nest looks like it might go up in flames, he'll toss his torch onto it and be ready with his sword.

"Bloody insect takes me down... don't tell no one, gents." Luken pleads between spins of toxin, trying to maintain a positive attitude. "Damn it, he's been poisoned!" Abelard calls, pushing his way past Mulvey to get a better look at the man. Realizing there's nothing he can do to remove the poison, Abe is determined to make sure the fallen warrior remains in a seated position to make sure the man doesn't choke on his own vomit. "If he makes it through the initial sickness, he should be okay. Otherwise..." Abe falls silent. Mulvey, uncomfortable in the situation, tries to reassure Luken. "I'm sure you'll be fine," he says to his struggling companion. "But just in case, any next of kin in Seaside?". Kernolde, at the rear of the group, stands a careful watch to make sure nothing sneaks up behind them.

Mulvey gladly allows Abe to tend to Luken and turns his attention to the centipede nest. "We're going to need to sleep eventually, and I'll do so much better knowing there are no poisonous albino bugs around." The elf tosses his torch into the nest of the remaining creature and quickly readies his sword. The giant centipede flails wildly for a few prolonged moments, but the threat ends as the creature eventually succumbs to the damage caused by the direct flame.

Mulvey monitors Luken for a change in condition. If he survives, he'll inquire "Let's get you to your feet! The sooner we get you out of here, the better." He'll help Luken to his feet, taking care to avoid any vomit that might come forth.

Luken will try to stay standing: No, no kin in Seaside. Let's not dwell on that, let's see if I can get going. I don't think I'll t be able to take the vanguard for a bit.

Luken puts forth a valiant effort and rises to his feet, but is considerably woozy. Even simple movement in his current condition will be limited and the fighter realizes he will be next-to-helpless if any significant effort is required of him.

A look of concern passes over Mulvey's face, although a casual observer wouldn't be able to tell if it was for Luken or himself.

"You can walk on your own, right Luken?". He then turns to the dwarf - "I may have led us to a dead end, but your route finding was no better. Let's just admit we have no idea where we're going and do our best to get out of this hellish place."
