Prologue
Re: Prologue
Gandrel pauses before leading off - hoping Cole will answer Castien's questions.

"There is no time to explain that," he starts. "We need to hurry but if you must know I need to find..."
Everyone in the party now roll a d10 and apply your modifier.

Re: Prologue
I'm not completely sure with this being a 2E game, but I want to say that you would add your modifier (higher = better). I may be way off here, but I'm sure someone that actually knows what they're talking about will chime in with a definitive answer sooner or later.saalaria wrote:Modified Initiative [1d10-2] = 4-2 = 2
Hope I did this right?

Re: Prologue
Initiative is handled in the opposite manner in 2nd Edition as compared to earlier editions: here, lower is better. So "bonuses" would be negative modifiers to the roll.

Re: Prologue
That's confusing. Thanks for the clarification, though. (ooc: my feeling of relief after rolling a 9 has suddenly turned into a feeling of dread).Xaxyx wrote:Initiative is handled in the opposite manner in 2nd Edition as compared to earlier editions: here, lower is better. Prologue 0.2 (Adventuring)
579 CY, Goodmonth 10 (10:30pm)
40h/28l, 5mph
Before Cole can finish his sentence everyone first hears large splashes coming from the moat near the drawbridge. Multiple large shapes are seen leaping through the air towards the party onto land (infravision). Counting six in all they are of two different sizes and take small "hops" as they approach the party. Cole spins around and as they get close you can make them out to be giant frogs. Two of them are in the 200 lbs range while the other four are smaller around 100 lbs. They appear aggressive and a couple poise to move closer.
The map has been updated. The two larger ones are the ovals and the smaller frogs being the triangles. The blue diamond is Cole and the rest of the party is in marching order behind him off map each occupying a 5' square. The squares are 5'.
Encounter sequence is as follows: Nuke, Sal, Ale/Cole, Frogs/Xax, Dmw
Nuke, you are on the clock as to your action.
Anyone else feel free to post with flavor text or questions.

Quoros tightens his grip on his mace and curses, "By St. Cuthbert's cudgel! Look at the size of them!" He readies to attack the nearest one...

Re: Prologue
Aware that his usefulness is limited, Castien fights back the sleep spell burning in his memory and aching to be released. Wanting to reserve the powerful spell for a potentially more deadly encounter, he instead takes a few steps back and firmly plants one end of his quarterstaff into the ground. "If one of these things is going to hop on me, may it find itself skewered" he thinks to himself.

Re: Prologue
Gandrel readies his bow and arrow whilst considering moving to a decent firing position that gives both a good field of fire and keeps one of the fighters between him and the frogs
Re: Prologue
Karl veers right, going to engage one of the big frogs. "Come to me big guy, I'm hungry for some frog legs"
He swings his sword, hoping for the best.
[1d20+1] = 8+1 = 9 to hit

Re: Prologue
OOC - okay my main aim is to fire 2 arrows without hitting friendlies. Can I do this from where I am currently? If not can I move sufficiently to have a clear field of fire without sacrificing a shot?
So you have it all in one go:
Bow Fire [1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6 Dam [1d8] = 8
Hits ac 14!

Karl moves to melee range with the large frog closest and furthest to the right on the map. Swinging your longsword you miss by a good distance.

Yes. You can target either one of the left closest small frogs or the furthest big frog. You can target the other big frog with a penalty since Karl is melee engaged with it. Let me know which. Also, one bow shot occurs promptly, the other takes effect after everyone cycles through actions.OOC - okay my main aim is to fire 2 arrows without hitting friendlies. Re: Prologue
Quoros looks frantically from frog to frog, trying to determine which one to strike at first.
"Sod it all," he mumbles, launching himself at the large frog Karl is attacking. Better to try and take one completely out than have several wounded frogs running amok.
To Hit, Melee or Missile [1d20] = 6
His hesitation obviously affected his battle concentration...

Re: Prologue
Seeing his companions moving to the right to engage the larger frogs, Ausus will step left and attempt to intercede himself between Castien and the smaller frogs, whirling his sword overhead in a mighty sweep in order to garner their attention. "Don't let them surround us!" he cries out, as he slashes at the nearest frog.
Attack frog (on initiative 4): [1d20+1] = 11+1 = 12 to-hit, [1d10+2] = 8+2 = 10 damage
