"It's a plan then Gandrel," Cole whispers. (He was filled in on your names by Quoros during the trek to the moathouse.

"I would prefer you lead as that is the way my partner and I always did...," his face grows grim for a second and then turns to a silent anger. "Always do," he composes himself and finishes his thought.

"It is your move. I know nothing more of this place then it's history which I have no time to explain now. As I said we get in and get out. I expect no major problems."

Cole awaits your action now Gandrel. Please PM me after leaving site of the group.

As soon as Gandrel and Cole are out of earshot, Ausus turns to Quoros. "I really don't care for that fellow," he says. "Something about this whole arrangement seems... off. What is it again he says he's here to do?"

While conversing with the dwarf, Ausus will also glance around the area, looking for animal trails. He'd like to know how active the local wildlife is, as that in turn may give a good impression as to how numerous -- or dangerous -- the moathouse's occupants are.

Quoros stays low behind the trunks of the tree, alternating between watching Cole and Gandrel creeping out of sight and the front entrance of the structure (with the moat bridge), looking for any sign of movement or life within.

"He wouldn't say. Sounds like some sort of revenge, though... Keep alert."

Castien joins Ausus and Quoros. "Quoros, you did say he was a follower of St. Cuthbert, right? And what was that about his partner being referred to in the past sense?"

Without thoroughly investigating or hacking down and clearing a lot of the brush around you, you don't see any apparent animal trails or tracks. Your infravision picks up the occasional small marsh being (frog, snake) but nothing you personally have never seen before or out of place.

"Nay, I never said he was a follower,"whispers Quoros. "He was looking for help from the church. I know not of his religious affiliations."

Reaching back over his head with both hands, Ausus will grasp the scabbard strapped to his back with one hand, and the hilt in the other. Lifting with both arms, he will slowly slither the great blade from its sheath, taking care not to let the sound of metal ring forth. Once the weapon is drawn, he will strike a relaxed but wary battle pose, keeping a careful eye on his surroundings, particularly in the direction of the moathouse.

"You're quite right, my dwarven friend. I do recall now you mentioning he merely seeking directions to the Temple of St. Cuthbert; not that he was an actual follower. My apologies."

Castien selects a suitable spot a step or two away from his current location and assumes a kneeling position. He hopes his discreet attempt to distance himself a bit from Ausus and his giant sword wasn't too obvious. While remaining alert, he is thankful for the opportunity to rest for a moment as he takes a quick sip of water from his wineskin.

Close to an hour has passed and there has been no signs of Gandrel, Cole, or anything else for that matter. The mosquitoes continue to eat away at your skin and insects galore are about in this boggy marsh-like environment. Those with heavier armor are content as the temperature has dropped considerably since dusk, however those unarmored are beginning to get chilled a tiny bit.

Boredom begins to gnaw at Ausus as well. Still with sword unsheathed, he'll begin slowly pacing around the area a bit, though never more than twenty feet or so from the others.

Quoros periodically checks the surrounding area behind them, as part of his vigilant watch...

After an hour of waiting, he quietly mutters, "I don't bloody well like this..."

Just then Gandel emerges from the bushes - from the west. He approaches the group and beckons them close.
(Whispers) "We found nothing - sorry it took so long but we wanted to be sure weren't seen by any-one...or -thing".
"I saw nothing to indicate this place is inhabited by anything larger than a frog! Oh and Cole made it too - he should be just behind me."
"The drawbridge appears the only way in without scaling the walls so I say let him lead on and see what happens. I am keen to know what he actually seeks as it probably will interest us too!"
Gandrel's face lights up - it is good to be on a 'job' again like in the old days in Verbobonc.

Cole emerges shortly thereafter behind Gandrel. He gives him a quick pat on the back and a rare smile.

"Very impressive elf," he praises in a whisper. "Novice but impressive."

"Next time you can follow me and learn a few things."

Gandrel shifts around - aware of being damned with faint praise. He looks around the group and raises his eyebrows.

"Okay - so what is your plan for the next move Cole?" Gandrel asks.

"Be careful," Ausus says quietly, as he steps, backwards, out of the nearby scrub brush toward the group. "It looks like giant frogs burrow around here. I just spotted a fifty-pounder."

"I figured we weren't totally alone," Cole chimes in. "As isolated and overgrown that this place is it was sure to have some marsh creatures take up residence. I think if we don't bother them they will hopefully reciprocate."

"That being said," he continues, "As Gandrel found out, it looks like across the drawbridge is the easy way in."

"Elf, would you be so kind to take lead again?"

Not waiting for an answer, Cole turns his head toward the elven thief and gives a warm genuine smile. "I read you like a book back there when I gave you a compliment. I was being honest when I said I was impressed with how you scouted for a novice. Praise from a Knight of the Emerald Order isn't just thrown around lightly."

He then pauses a second. "Let's just hope my purse strings continue to stay intact all the way until the end of our business relationship." Giving a soft chuckle, he winks at Gandrel and then adjusts his pack on his back.

Cole then turns north and takes a walk in the direction of the drawbridge.

Cole then turns north and takes a walk in the direction of the drawbridge.

Castien cinches his cloak to help combat the nighttime chill. Thankful for the downtime and fully rested, Castien takes a quick inventory of his possessions before hoisting himself up to a standing position with his quarterstaff. "A Knight of the Emerald Order" he wonders to himself, uncertain if he's ever heard of them before.

"What, exactly, are we looking for once inside?" Castien asks before the group formally begins to make its way to the drawbridge. "We're here, and we're committed to seeing this through, but what exactly is the 'this' that we're facing? You said 'we get in and get out,' which is fine by me, but what is our objective?"
