Military Hexcrawl/Night's Watch Campaign

I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.

Military Hexcrawl/Night's Watch Campaign

#1 Post by PiebaldWookie »

So, I've been bouncing an idea around for a while, and I was wondering if anyone would fancy giving it a shot?

The basic premise is a mix of The Nights Watch of A Song of Ice and Fire, and the untamed wilds of Skyrim. To whit;

"Welcome to the Wall, boys. You are here not as a punishment, but to perform a great service to the Kingdom. The fact you are thieves, rustlers, liars, cheats, bastards and outcasts, who have been sent to the frozen arsehole of the known world is surely a coincidence. This Wall marks the end of our hold on the land. Beyond it, there are savages, The Restless Dead, and creatures you thought only lived in your grandmother's scary tales. The Black Watch's job, our job, is to man this Wall, and keep those fuckers out."

You have been inducted into the Black Watch, and there's a good chance you've done something to deserve the honour.

Decades ago, the baronies and principalities of the Kingdom would send their finest, most honorable men and women to serve at The Wall, to defend from the horrors beyond. However, as activity decreased, fewer and fewer were sent to serve, and fewer rulers thought the Wall was a worthwhile use of the Kingdom's money.

The barons began sending criminals, bastard children of nobility, and other undesirables to serve at The Wall. Now, its seen as an economic millstone - a relic of a superstitious age before their time.

Now, of course, there are reports from the Black Watch scouts... The tribes beyond the wall are congregating, making moves towards The Wall, reports of strange creatures in the night, and sightings of men long thought lost to the wilderness...

Anyone interested? I'm not tied to a system, as of yet, but I have a few ideas brewing...

I'm currently thinking about either 2e AD&D with some house ruling, or the Green Ronin D20 Black Company ruleset.
