Take Two...

Date: Autumn, 432 ca., Campaign Day 10
Time: 12:40.2
Weather: 50 degrees
Location: Steading Dungeon - Rockpile

Magic in Effect: Lorath - Levitate
Wildfire - 2 rounds
**************************
HP:
Vorsyin: 38/52
Gaerys: 56/69
Hollis: 41/52
Lorath: 40/40
Ethan: 69/71
Olaf: 12/75 (!!!)
***********************
The marsh giants and their pets strike first.
The long-necked cave lizards again snap out, striking at the fallen Olaf. The first thrusts its infected, dripping jaws into Olaf's gut...the grizzled warrior cannot help but scream as his abdomen and organs are punctured. The second snaps again at Olaf, but the warrior somehow finds the presence to swat the pair of jaws away.
Natural 20! 28 DAMAGE!
Olaf struggles to his feet, just as Gaerys moves forward. With a couple whacks, the ranger hacks through the throat of one lizard, leaving one other - who Gaerys now sees is the smallest of the three the party has faced. It screeches with agony as its flesh continues to burn from the wildfire. Lorath takes his bow and zips an arrow at the remaining lizard, but it flies wide.
CHAP...please take over Olaf here. Note his HP!
One marsh giant engages with the elemental. Again, the crude club cannot damage the magical creature. The very earth itself then seems to heave, and fall upon the giant, crushing it to a pool of ichor and fetid flesh.
Ethan is met by an onrushing giant, whose swing smashes through the frozen corpse of its deceased cousin. Ethan moves to meet his attacker, but is speared by another giant coming "over the top."
Ethan 9 damage
Ethan is undeterred. His swings once, which is avoided by the giant, but then connects with a quick reversal. The giant's scream echoes through the narrow hallway as purple ichor pools on the ground.
The marsh giant priest, rendered spell-less while burning, flees southward. The marsh giant to the north also flees...not liking his chances against the elemental ... and undoubtedly to summon reinforcements.
Vorsyin holds his position ... and the elemental, while Hollis continues to watch his back...

Re: Take Two...
Gaerys takes a pathetic swing at the remaining lizard thing.
Giantbane (THAC0 12): [1d20+2] = 3+2 = 5 Dmg: [1d8+2] = 7+2 = 9 (S/M) [1d12+2] = 7+2 = 9 (L)

"Olaf! You appear in need of healing my Lord. Please come to me as I don't want to leave Vorsyin undefended"

Magic in Effect: Lorath - Levitate
**************************
The party and monsters act simultaneously.
Ethan again swings headlong at a marsh giant, who returns the blow with equal fury. The skilled warrior plunges his blade deep into the giant, all the while sidestepping a heavy downward smash. The bulky mass of rubbery flesh hardens instantly into a foul iceberg. Frostfell again leaves its mark!!!
The giant behind Ethan again tears into him with a thrust of a huge harpoon.
Ethan - 8 damage
Gaerys faces down the last of the cave lizards. The long neck of the beast strikes in a serpentine fashion at the ranger, and Gaerys can't avoid it. Long fangs tear across the ranger's torso, cutting him deeply. Gaerys's return blow amounts to little after that kind of pain had weakened him. The beast does take a bit of damage from the still-burning wildfire.
NATURAL 20 - 18 damage!!!
Lorath again lets an arrow fly, but he can't hit the proverbial side of the...dinosaur.
Olaf hears the call of Hollis and scrambles up and over the rockpile. He ends up next to Hollis.
Vorsyin commands the elemental to assist Ethan and Hollis maintains his watch. The mound of earth takes a moment to collect itself before turning on the one remaining giant. If it advances any further, the mage will need to climb the rockpile to maintain its command...he could also dismiss it, which he would do if the careful mage was typically bearish.
Over his left shoulder, Vorsyin hears a startlingly familiar voice...just as the cleric feels the wrench of darkness against his soul...
Vorsyin - save v. spells please.
Hollis - save v. spells please
The darkness surrounding the party's lightsources seems to deepen...as a faint gibbering hiss echoes softly from south eastern hallway.
SOR INTRO
Argos and the Red Priest awaken behind a door, illuminating an otherwise black cell with their presence. The sounds of combat ring out. Argos's pendant burns assertively. The Red Priest calmly slips into a deep meditation. The Signs could not be more clear...the Lord of Light has called them into the very dwelling of the Other! Argos instinctively kicks down the door, and the two Servants of the Light stand before Hollis and Vorsiyn. The goings on over the rockpile were obvious, as was the fact that the mage and heathen priest were servants of the Lord of Light in this most desperate of battles, regardless of whether they knew it.
The coming Night would be full of terrors, but it would not be Dark. The Crusade had begun...
MAP TO COME. Gaerys is facing a cave lizard and Ethan is facing one more giant. No more visible enemies.

Gaerys takes another couple of swings at the cave lizard, barely scratching it. He just manages to keep hold of his sword with the second attack.

Re: Take Two...
Arqos Edoryon marvels, not for the first time, at the power of his god. To be taken from one place to another as easily as a child might pick up a toy solider and move it to another room—R'hllor is truly mighty!
"Let us bring the Light of our lord into this forsaken place," he tells his priest, "and rid the world of these servants of the Other!"
Magnus: If Arqos stays on the west side of the rocks, will Vorsyin and Hollis get the benefit of his protection from evil aura for their saves, or did whatever they're saving against happen before he showed up? And can we tell if anything is approaching from the west side of the rock pile?

Re: Take Two...
Vorsyin and Hollis don't get the PfE bonus on these saves.
You two see nothing coming from the West.

Arqos climbs the rock pile and prepares to enter the fray.

Re: Take Two...
Flambeau tries to shake the disorientation from his mind. When he hears the praises of R'hllor from Arqos he responds with Aye brother, let us demonstrate further the might of our Lord.
He follows Arqos out the door, looking for something to attack. (or someone in need of a quick healing?)
Since Flambeau has no idea of what's actually going on, that's how I will play him. So feel free to make suggestions IC if you need healing or have a combat suggestion. (or anything else) Thanks! Happy to be aboard on this one.

That Karstark fellow seems to be mighty hurt. He could probably use as much healing as you could throw at him.

Re: Take Two...
Agreed, but I have no idea where he is compared to us so I was hoping to get a layout of the current battle before I acted.
If Karstark is close by (and agrees) Flambeau will hit him with his CCW. do I roll for that?

Re: Take Two...
The map in this post is only a little out of date. The rock pile is where the "L" is. I think we joined from the west. So Flambeau, Hollis, Vorsyin, Olaf, and Arqos are all together to the west of the rock pile at the start of the round. Lorath is hovering above the rock pile. Gaerys and Ethan are to the east trying to finish off the monsters before more arrive.
I've also been keeping an updated map here.

Thanks Zhym! I didn't see that one.
In that case.....Lead on, up, and over to battle brother and I shall follow!

Hollis' save:
Saving Throw [1d20] = 20
Wow the roller likes me today!
Hollis shakes off whatever he started to feel coming upon him.
He moves to heal the Lord Karstark
Apologies just checking if I cast both my more powerful healing spells or only one

Olaf Karstark, Fighter
I'd appreciate some healing magics, if you can spare it he adds dryly.

Two powerful allies emerge from a holding cell to join the fray...but not before the monsters strike first.
The cave lizard recoils and strikes again at Gaerys, again ripping at his flesh with its powerful jaws. Gaerys winces again in pain.
Gaerys -12 damage
As the ranger prepares to strike back at the beast, his attention is seized by a looming man-sized figure who storms from the south with booming steps. The figure is clad in the jet-black armor of a man, bearing a shield in one hand and with the other hand free. But this is no man -- where the flesh of the head and hands should be, there is only inky black Shadow. On the edges, the darkness wisps like smoke, but becomes wholly physical in the core. It seems both human-sized and twelve feet tall all at once. Two red "eyes" glow menacingly from the blackness of its "head". Its presence seems to suck all the air from the room, bringing the stillness of fear to all who face him. THIS IS SURELY THE MESSENGER!!!
With a flick of its arm, the Messenger calls forth a flail made from the same shadowy substance as its body. With a heavy swing, the messenger propels it forward twenty or so feet into Gaerys. The "smoke" brushes aside just as a heavy mass crashes into Gaerys's chest.
Gaerys - 9 damage!!
Behind the Messenger, the ranger can just make out at least four figures moving forward with a familiar, but horrific, loping gait!
Knowing that he is to take the brunt of the onrushing tide, the ranger swings back at the lizard, slicing a wound in its thigh. The beast is hurt, but far from dead.
Ethan and the marsh giant square off. The marsh giant repays Ethan for the death of its two cousins with a heavy smash across the body. Ethan returns the blow with a pair of quick thrusts just as the elemental flanks the giant. Miraculously, Ethan and the elemental all miss with their attacks!
Ethan - 16 damage!!!
Vorsyin only
Olaf tumbles over the rockpile, where he is greeted by the healing hands of Hollis. The priest's touch is cool, like morning dew. Olaf's wounds close and the warrior is now at about half-strength. Hollis also peers over his shoulder and notices something amiss with the mage.
Olaf recovers 20 damage!
Hollis - Your spell list is up to date. I assume that you cast CCW, so strike that please..
Arqos and Flambeau charge forward from their former holding cell. Flambeau takes a place next to Olaf, so as to continue his healing. Arqos scrambles to the top of the rockpile. He need not employ his detect evil ability to see the horror that Gaerys is facing.

Re: Take Two...
Arqos clambers down the rock pile next to Gaerys (in front of him, if possible), bringing the ranger within his protective aura. The Soldier of the Fiery Hand draws his sword Flare and speaks the word onos, commanding the sword to shine with a bright light. The tattooed flames on his cheeks and forehead seem to brighten along with the sword.
"Begone!" he cries, using his sword and its light as a holy symbol. "You have no place here, servants of the Other! Your message of lies will not be delivered! BEGONE!"

Re: Take Two...
Gaerys's grunts in pain. His eyes widen at the shadowy thing that has entered the fray. If there are gods, he thinks, now would be a great time for them to step in and help.
He swings Giantbane at the giant lizard.
Giantbane (THAC0 12): [1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22 Dmg: [1d8+2] = 6+2 = 8 (S/M) [1d12+2] = 7+2 = 9 (L)
A great hit! Perhaps there's something to this god business after all.
