The Twisted Fate sails on despite the damaged hull, continuing its hard push due east. Monocar informs the captain that he has some mad woodworking skills, but the old seaman declines any help from the goodhearted giant. As deals are made and ideas of the perfect group are formed, the rest of the afternoon and evening go by uneventfully. It becomes almost peaceful on the ship’s deck once again.

After another rough night of trying to sleep on the hard, wet deck, morning finally arrives and your travels are again blessed with another perfect day out on the Azure Sea. The crewman in the crow’s nest calls down again a few hours after sunrise to point out another school of fish that is trailing the ship. This time everyone is happy to see that it is actually a large pod of harmless dolphins that are taking advantage of the ships wake to swim along, diving in and out of the waves a few yards off of the rear of the vessel. The commoners on board are thrilled to see these beautiful and majestic creatures that, until now they had only heard stories about.

Even though the trip has been a relatively short one, everyone is thrilled when they hear the cry from above of “LAND HO” and see the crew all pointing straight ahead. After about 378 "are we there yets" from the littlest one, the elves spot a small island far off in the distance that begins to appear on the blue horizon. It soon grows as the ship draws nearer, soliciting a loud cheer from most of the passengers on board. As the Fate gets closer, you can see that there is a wide expanse of white sand beach that is several miles wide that the ship is heading straight for. It is easy to see that this island is comprised mostly of tropical jungle that reaches almost all the way up to the water. There are black cliffs to the south of the long beach and more lush green jungle sprouting out right to the waterline when looking to the north. The island is covered in lush green foliage and appears to gradually rise in elevation further in towards the center. The southern portion of the land looks like it is at a much higher elevation, indicating that the cliffs seen from the water must rise up quite a bit more once you get inland. A large supported floating dock of bamboo that must be 300 feet long sprouts out from the center of the beach area. The crew carefully sails directly towards it.

Once close enough, a few buildings can be made out on shore and you can see a large structure that is built high up in a huge cottontree. The captain looks through his glass again and a concerned expression begins to cross his face. Just then screams can be heard over the sounds of the waves coming from the tiny beach settlement that you are headed straight for. "Oh for the love of Procan! What now?!?" You start to see many people running around in obvious terror, none of them seem to be concerned about you newly arriving vessel in the least. Not exactly the welcome you were hoping for, you begin to notice that the screams are coming from people who are running around. They are being chased by what appears to be some very slow moving, shambling humanoids.

The captain looks to all of the adventuring types on board and yells out. "Well, this is what we brought you all here for! Now get out there and save those poor people!"

The ship will reach the docks end platform in one round, giving you a bit of time to prepare and strategize. I will post a map of the dock and buildings you can see so far. It will be marked with the positions of the enemy.

Ferris the gnome

Ferris awakes at the call of 'land ho' and retrieves his pack from under the cupboard bunk. Duty served and with an extra leg of pork stuffed secretly in his pack (salted and seasoned) he stand on a bucket, on the deck looking over the rails watching land approach.

Winding back his crossbow winch, he lifts the heavy pick/bow up and takes aim at the nearest 'shambling' creature.

"This will not do, he mutters, not do at all. I must clear a way for you big fellows." Moving only off the ship and kneeling to steady his aim.

He aims at the one by the tower and pulls the trigger...ferris crossbow [1d20+1] = 18+1 = 19 bolt damage [1d4+1] = 2+1 = 3

"Like hitting the coconuts from the shy." he nods in self appreciation.

Krystal

Tries to take a good vantage point on the port rail, studying the island as she draws closer. Her face frowns with what she sees. It is not like the poster at all? She was hoping for a secure settlement, a 'red carpet' welcome, wine traders and gem stalls and hosts of grass skirted lithe girls, hips swaying and bare breasted, save for wreaths of lei flowers around their necks. Looking at the men behind her, she can well imagine they had hoped for that too.

As the gangplank lowers and the warrior heroes rush off into first blood, she is a little swept along by the baying mob to the edge of the bamboo pier where she nimbly jumps off and crawls underneath it, (dock word) drawing a dagger and surveying the scene from a safe distance.

Jack, lost boy:

Jack sulks as no one asks him to join their adventuring parties.

Then, as the ship approaches the beleaguered settlers, he joyfully shouts, "Aye! Aye! Captain!" at the top of his little lungs and gleefully scrambles like a monkey back up into the rigging to re-set himself in the ropes, nocking an arrow and taking a bead on the nearest ugly, smelly monsters (26 and 28).
"Aye! Aye!" he repeats with more than a trace of mischievous revelry.

Luther

Alright, I need a couple of hand-ta-hand with me! We hit the dock, we stay close to protect each other, we teach these fucks not to mess with the colony! Let's go!

As soon as the ship reaches the dock, Luther jumps down, jogging toward the shore with sword in hand, roaring and cursing. By choice, his first target will be 26- or 24, if Sniper Jack has already dropped 26.

Raythan

The half-elf moves on the dock, extracting his holy symbol as he does so. "Zombies, 'ware their bite." he says.

Moving purposely toward the nearest one he hold up his sign "Begone foul creature"

Wes

As the ship approaches the island Waesfaren stands at the rail, gazing at the jungle and all it's strange new creatures. So different from his home in the Dreadwood!

Wes is torn from his reverie as the Twisted Fate approaches the dock and he hears the shouts and cries of alarm from the passengers and crew. He rushes to get his gear and weapons, (taking a moment to transfer his "souvenir" from his pack to his belt). Once ready he disembarks behind the heavily armored types and jogs behind them up to the beach, remaining about 30' behind them. When he gets in range of a suitable target, he produces some mistletoe and begins to cast a spell.
Please see my in-game thread for Wes' tactics.

ChubbyPixie wrote:Chauncey the Adequate

"Ah! Ah ha!... yes," Chauncey replies to Brufrig, "You are a Dwarf of good sense, as I suspected! And keenly perceptive. 'Adequate' is an epithet indeed not chosen but foisted upon me by... ah... my mother." A shadow darkens his brow and he glances over both shoulders briefly before turning back and continuing, the look of concern passing as soon as it had appeared. "You see, I intend to keep the name and, by dint of my very greatness, cause people to respect and fear it. If they are no-good-niks, that is. Ne'er-do-wells and the like. Or anyone, really. ...Why just today I defeated one of the beasts single-handedly, you may have noted. Without harming it, physically." He beams proudly in Wes's direction. "I can't say I share your partner's affinity, or indeed sympathy for the natural world, but I see no need to harm a non-evil creature if there is another recourse." ...I can't see a reason not to, either - Sleep is the only spell I had prepared, he thinks, but best make a good impression...

"And what is your particular skill set, sir, if I may be so bold??" He adds, addressing the Dwarf.
Brufrig's brow furrows as he tries to understand Chauncey's explanation. I'm not exactly following. Some of the words you used, I am not familiar with. Maybe in Dwarven...so your mother used to swear at you, so you took that as your name and are going to keep it because of...your great dinner? So you cook as well as being a spellcaster? Glad to hear it! A good cook is always welcome, as I happen to be a great eater. As for my skill set... The dwarf pauses as he looks at his armor and weaponry. Uh, fighting? I was apprenticing to be a smith, but didn't really care for it. I may not be very smart or fast, but I'm as strong as...well, something really strong. Like a bear, or a tree. Or a giant ant. Hmm. A Gi-ant! Hah! Brufrig glances around quickly. Realizing nobody else is as amused by the thought of a Gi-ant as he is, he hastily resumes. Anyway, long story short, I set out to make my fame and fortune and came across a flyer, so here I am. On a boat. That was attacked by sea monsters. By my beard, but I miss land already!

Not sure who that is, but ok. I guess he's with us, as well. The more the merrier, I suppose. My name is Brufrig, litle one. And you are?

Sorry guys, I didn't realize I neglected to post my sheet in the Characters thread. I had a much more smart-assed reply to Chauncey's question about Brufrig's skills but walked it back a bunch when I realized my omission.

Brufrig Granitesunder

Hearing the commotion and seeing the...village...under attack, Brufrig runs onto the dock, aiming his crossbow at the enemy directly ahead. Unfortunately, trying to aim a crossbow while on a floating dock does not play to his strengths. As a result, he sends the bolt sailing a good three feet wide of his intended target, burying the bolt into the wall of the building behind it.

Saracen listens to Monocars speech and smiles that grimace that is his best disarming smile. He happily shakes the human mans hand in agreement. "Pholtus is happy to receive any genuine prayers. Let us go and fight the unexplored darkness upon the island."

As the ship comes to dock and the settlement under stack comes into view the holy champion rushes to collect all his gear and make his way with the other stronger warriors to the docks end. Raising his flail and his shield the half-orc below as cry and heads off west to the furthest creature

along the shoreline. "For Pholtus!" he yells as he runs, ginger dreadlocks and orange robes billowing behind him as rushes into the throng of panicked humans.

Chauncey the Adequate

Chauncey makes a mental note to talk slowly and use small-ish words when addressing Brufrig. Seems like a nice fellow, if a bit ...unsophisticated. Probably enjoys puppet shows and jokes involving crude bodily functions, but it takes all sorts, he supposes. Not everyone can be nearly unbelievably brilliant.

He raises one eyebrow and begins to turn toward the hooded halfling to reply, ("Hmmm... Yes, I see... I'm sure you are the most stalwart of companions...") when the captain begins shouting.

"Trouble already?" says Chauncey when the trouble erupts. He allows the more martially capable sorts to exit the ship in front of him, being sure to stick near one of his newfound companions, the Dwarf or the Druid, if possible. He certainly has no interest in being singled out by one of these shambling... what are they, exactly? He peers at their movements, seeing if he can gain any clues as to their nature. Did someone yell "zombie?" He's not sure in all the confusion and will hang back at the end of the dock until he is better able to discern what, exactly, is happening.

Lightfinger

Excitement builds in the young Hobbit as land is sighted. He takes a que from the Gnome he met earlier and stands atop his own pack for a better view. What an opportunity! A new place, new surroundings, new trinkets, new Women! But as the Twisted Fate draws nearer, it's quite apparent something is dreadfully wrong... People screaming, being set upon by... What ARE those things? And, above all else: A tree-house? Really?

He was looking forward to a fanciful, perhaps profitable vacation. This will not be possible now. Or will it? It may be possible for someone small and quick to use the distraction already provided to advance his collection of trinkets! And he simply must get a closer look at that tree-house. When the large, armor-clad Warriors hit the dock, he is right behind them, staying a few paces back, sling unfurled. He'll use their cover to get ashore, then dart away. Oh, he'll fire off a shot, if someone from the ship is looking (Or if one of those... Whatchamacallits advances on him), just so he can be seen assisting in what has suddenly become a rescue operation.
To hit, sling: [1d20+6] = 1+6 = 7
Just in case, Dmg: [1d4+1] = 2+1 = 3
Bullet marked off.

Wet Feet Free For All
Round 1

The fighter types are allowed to rush off the ship first and they begin to hurry down the bamboo dock. The floating platform and dock strain under the weight of their massive forms and all of the gear being carried. Just past the docking platform, the floating bamboo logs are supported every ten feet or so by posts pounded into the sand. Even still, the dock is slippery and quite unstable while traversing heavily armed and armored.

Monocar, Luther, and Saracen hurry towards the beach with Luther shouting encouragement to the other similarly armed passengers along the way. Raythan, Krystal, Lightfinger, Waesfaren and Chauncey follow closely behind. Wes and Chauncey take the time to try to figure out what these slow moving monsters might be. They look very much like really old zombies, some having very little actual flesh left on their bones.

Little Jack scurries right back up in the rigging while the captain shouts at him from the deck to get his tiny ass back down and get the hell off of his ship. Ferris hops off with the others but doesn’t bother running towards the chaos. Instead, he pulls out his odd gnomish contraption resembling both a pick and crossbow. He cranks back on the little collapsible handle and takes careful aim at one of the creatures. He fires his machine from almost 400 feet away, yet the seasoned gnome’s bolt flies true and plunks his target (Z2) square in the chest. To his dismay, the thing continues shambling and moaning after the many screaming villagers. Brufrig the dwarf has never liked being shown up by a gnome. He takes aim with his crossbow but misses his mark badly on the undulating platform.

After what seems like a lifetime, the rumbling charge finally hit the soft white sand. Fighters scatter in every direction, attacking the monsters with reckless abandon. Luther chases down the first one he sees and Saracen goes for the furthest. Raythan rushes ahead and uses the divine powers of Celestain to chase the zombie away that Luther was just about to attack. Lightfinger scoots down the beach with his sling twirling, quickly passing the ginger halforc. His stone flies out wide and smacks a strange fighter in the back of his helmet.

Krystal, CTA, and Wes all wisely stop at the end of the dock, unwilling to risk getting too close to the monsters. Monocar does not. He bumbles forward at top speed towards the monster straight ahead. Just then he spots a young elven lass running out from the many rows of small shacks. She seems dead set on chasing down one of the hideous creatures to slash at it with her dagger. Unfortunately for her, she misjudges the shifting sand under her usually graceful feet and ends up plopping down face first in the sand right in front of the huge Monocar. Wes pulls out some ingredients and starts a chant. He begins to call forth the power of the simple vines and weeds scattered around the larger building to entangle the monster before it can eat the poor she elf who has fallen in front of it. The vegetation complies and begins to wind around the legs of the zombie.

Actions!

I pushed that charge ahead a bit. (sorry BH and Inferno)
Z2 is injured
Z8 is entangled (as are two frightened villagers)
The arrows represent which direction the zombies are moving

Lightfinger

The Halfing's attention is mostly on the tree-house as he scoots along the shore, then he spots the pair of dead-things shambling directly toward him. Oh, no, you don't! He cuts a quick right turn around the tower, and spots yet another walking cadaver heading away. No matter. He cuts left close to the building between himself and the house in the tree. He will use this for cover until he is certain the first pair of awful-lings have passed him by. Just in case, he pinches yet another lead slug from his purse and sets his pack down against the wall of the large rectangular construct.

Monocar

OOC: No problem OM! You did exactly what I would have.

Monocar charges with glee, ready to show off as he charges straight ahead, a rattle of clanky armor and equipment. He grabs his mace and holds it up over his head as he charges z8. He gets a good look at the Zombie as he nears. "Ugh... Damn, you're ugly!" He swing hard at the Zombie's head.

To Hit [1d20+2] = 15+2 = 17 Dmg [1d6+5] = 5+5 = 10 OOC: Does not include bonus for charge if this qualifies.

Jack, lost boy:

"Zombies off the starboard side, Captain!" Jack yells to distract the killjoy as he expertly fires arrows at the closest shambling cadaver that isn't fighting an adventurer (Z2 or Z4).

Then Jack sees the treehouse and his mouth moves like it's tasting something it likes.

Brufrig will forgo the use of his crossbow at this point and close to melee. Using his halberd, he will attempt to put an end to the entangled creature. If Monocar has already dispatched it, he will continue on and attempt to get an attack in on Z7.

Ferris

The gnome will walk casually towards the very end of the dock pier, taking the metal bucket along to brace one knee on for a solid platform, he winds back the pick/bow crank. (Rather slowly as it is a heavy and cumbersome device).

Nevertheless, he knows it can pack a serious punch and he readies another bolt for next round.

"I can cover you guys all the way to the settlement fringe if you want to seek shelter off the beach." he says to the trio below the decking. "There might be more of those critters coming out the forest on the eastwards, so I would move sharply."
