Part 2: Gladiator Initiations

#1 Post by GreyWolfVT »

Exits & Upper Caverns

The kobold's group thoroughly defeated the prisoner is bound questioned and scared to the point that it soils itself when Rician gives him the "evil eye" detection of evil glare. Krakus being the only one able to speak with the creature takes control of the prisoner. Rurtifus the wererat dines on dead warm kobold flesh then follows the group ensuring that the kobold is not leading them astray. The kobold leads you down the passage that the leader and first group came through which was the same direction the wererat was heading towards. Rurtifus confirms this "So far the creature is leading you the same way I was." the passage goes for about 80 feet then comes to a Y intersection. The kobold looks both directions and acts as if to head to the southerly section of the Y Rurtifus steps forward and halts the group "The exit is this way." he points to the western passage of the Y intersection. The kobold looks frightened that he will be killed and speaks to Krakus.

Kobold to Krakus
"I lead to exit. This way lead to exit kobolds use. Spare me. I no lie."
Rurtifus cuts in "There are other exits the kobold could be telling you of a way he is familiar with, however this is the exit I am familiar with."

So the group has a choice follow the wererat or follow the kobold. Trust one or the other? Kill one or the other? What will you decide?

Rician Lockwindberg - Paladin - Banded Mail AC 4 + Stone Warden Shield (+2): AC 2 - HP: 22/27:

After hearing what the Kobold and Rurtifus had to say, Rician, looks at both passage trying to spot footprints, how many of them, and if he can tell the type.

The thinking that the heavily traveled passage is likely the way out, perhaps.

Rician Lockwindberg - Paladin - Banded Mail AC 4 + Stone Warden Shield (+2): AC 2 - HP: 22/27:

Rician spots a large amount of Kobold tracks coming from the south and at least one set of tracks from the west passage, compares those to Rurtifus's feet, decides that those are his.

Rician says, "Hmm, if we go south, we likely may find more kobolds before we find an exit. If we go west, we may perhaps, not have to deal with anything."

Path Chosen

After a fairly quick decision the group decides to take the path the wererat suggested over that of a kobold that may potentially think an exit means back to where he resides rather than up to the surface. Being a prisoner bound up it takes little convincing to push the kobold in the direction the group decides. Rurtifus looks pleased to have you all confide in him over a kobold and leads the way. The passage going westward again comes to a Y split again after only about 30 more feet. Rurtifus stops and informs you "Both of these paths will take us to the upper caverns and eventually out to the surface." point to the west path that looks to start going north after a short distance, and the southern passage that winds westward after about 10 to 20 feet. "However that way has more places for things to hid and ambush us like that one and his fellows did." the wererat indicates the southern pass and the kobold. "If we go this way there is very little to no where for anything to hide to attack us." he says indicating the west/northwest pass. Giving the group no real chance to mull things over he leads off towards the west/northwest passage.

Another 30 feet the west path does indeed bend to go straight north, there is a small crevice to the south of the bend but nothing is seen within it other than some rats hiding trying to be out of sight of the gladiators as you pass by. Another 40 feet and you come to as set of stairs that lead up straight for about 20 feet. The wererat Rurtifus continues to lead on heading up the stairs. Going up the stairs you come to a flat area then another set of stairs for another 20 feet and now you come to a small cavern room with two large rock pillars nothing come to attack you as you move through the small cavern room to a hallway that goes 20 feet then has stairs that lead up to a 10' x 10' flat bade of stone floor and ends with a iron door. The iron door is featureless on this side. Lying next to it is a human skeleton, in gladiator armor an initiate who failed the test years ago. No valuables remain on the skeleton.

Rician sees that it has been here so long even the clothing it had on is tatters and the thing is covered in dust and spider webbing.

So thus nothing special about it.

Door & Skeleton

Between Hantae and Gildor they determine the door to not be trapped and the lock is rusty but not locked. They ease the door open and it squeaks as it to indicate it has not been oiled in ages. The skeleton is checked over and absolutely nothing of value is found clothing all rotted from the years it sat there along with a thick layer of dust and cobwebs showing it's been left untouched for a very long time no real way to determine the cause of death but it was definitely a human or elf of some sort and a gladiator initiate again at one time.

Opening the door you find your self looking into a small square shaped room that is about 20' by 20' with 3 doors, the one you opened, one to the East and one to the West. This small room has the looks that it used to be a guard barracks at one time but the weapon and armor racks are bare except for the layers of dust and cobwebs on them there is nothing of interest in this room.

Gildor from the door entry without going in scans the door frame and floor and ceiling for traps.
