Players Wanted: Keep on the Borderlands
Players Wanted: Keep on the Borderlands
Okay, it's been long enough...time to throw my DM hat back into the ring.
I loved my 1E AD&D game, but playing in keehnelf's Labyrinth Lord game has given me a renewed appreciation in the older, simpler format. So I think I'm going to run Labryinth Lord (at least, as the base chassis) and use the setting from my old game.
I figured I'd kick things off with a classic...Keep on the Borderlands!
We'll start at 1st, but with a few XP to give you a headstart towards 2nd level. It recommends 6-9 PC's, so that's what I'm aiming for. Be a team player, and be prepared to have civil disagreements with your fellows (if you must have them). Please shoot me a PM if you're interested; preference given to folks I've worked with in the past, or if they'll vouch for you.
When and if you exhaust the fun of the Caves of Chaos, we'll see what level y'all are and where we want to go from there. Maybe I'll haul out another old-school module, or maybe you'll have your own plans.
I would prefer people who have never played it before (or not in a long time), but I have made some modifications.
Feel free to post questions here.

Yup, I'm in (assuming you'll put up with my shenanigans again) Been waiting anxiously...
Re: Players Wanted: Keep on the Borderlands
Hi all,
I am a player in one campaign (Marullus LL) and DM'ing another. Most familar with the old school editions, I first played from the 'red box' set though can say I never did the Keep though it is revered as a classic. So I will throw my hat in the ring and wait for your reply. I can post certainly within every 48 hours.
Cheers Kris

If only I had the time
Re: Players Wanted: Keep on the Borderlands
As a quick aside, My first pBp was one that Spartakos ran on DF, and was in it from start to finish over the course of a few years. He spun an excellent backstory, the campaign world was well developed, and all of his adventures were great. I was quite sad when our campaign came to a conclusion, and have anxiously been awaiting a Spartakos return.
If you have time to add another pBp to your schedule, you won't regret joining this one.

Core or AEC?
Re: Players Wanted: Keep on the Borderlands
Core, with some houserules. Quick rundown:Tamerlaine wrote:Core or AEC?
Adding rules for playing elf & dwarf clerics, and elf/dwarf/halfling thieves, plus gnomes (sorta fighter/thief/illusionists). Very minimalist.
Slight modification to XP tables, to make them 'tidier' (everything is in multiples of 250...so like 1500, 1750, 2000, 2250, etc for 2nd level, doubling each level after). I have reduced the XP requirements for elves a fair bit (3000 for 2nd level).
Custom weapon & armor lists (not too different, but again, tidier in my mind and more streamlined). Higher end armor is pricier.
Slight changes to cleric spell lists (including custom variants for elf & dwarf clerics). MU spells the same.
Only fighters get double damage on a 20.
Rules for possibility of ability scores improving as you level.
My own rules for what happens when you are reduced to 0 HP (no 'negative HP', just roll a survival check essentially).
A few other minor odds and ends.

I would be willing to give this a try. Never played LL though!
Re: Players Wanted: Keep on the Borderlands
Have you played Basic or Expert D&D (the old red/blue boxes)? Same thing, really.Balrog wrote:I would be willing to give this a try. Never played LL though!
I can help people with rules, but know that you can download a free version of LabLord.

Basic D&D Keep on the Borderlands? Count me in!
Re: Players Wanted: Keep on the Borderlands
Yes I have, been a very long time though. I am sure I can figure it out pretty easily.Spartakos wrote:Have you played Basic or Expert D&D (the old red/blue boxes)? Same thing, really.Balrog wrote:I would be willing to give this a try. Never played LL though!

Re: Players Wanted: Keep on the Borderlands
Nice! I think that should give us enough to get started, so I'll see about getting a board set up.
Everybody who's posted here or sent me a PM, you're in.

Cool! Can you PM me the campaign id when you get the chance?
Re: Players Wanted: Keep on the Borderlands
Will do, as soon as I have it.Balrog wrote:Cool! Can you PM me the campaign id when you get the chance?
For the record, we have the following players to start:
KingofCowards
Badams30
ragnboneshopper
Spearmint
Balrog
Gelatinous Q
Zhym
Plus Tamerlaine, if he wants (he did not expressly say yea/nay). I will take up to 9 to begin, so we've got room for 1-2 more if people want in. After that, I'll start a waitlist.
Thanks for the interest, y'all, and here's hoping we have a grand time together.

Thanks man. Sorry for posting in your LL recruiting thread. I have no problems with LL either. You can always throw me on the list here too.

Re: Players Wanted: Keep on the Borderlands
I would be interested in playing.
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.
