Jervis

Thank you, we shall rid the good people of Saltmarsh of these brigands and ensure their safety

He thumps his hand over his heart in a salute and turns on his heel leaving the room.

Keilif:

"Thank you for all that you have provided. The equipment you supplied will help ensure both our success and safety." Keilif bows before the Council members and takes his leave to go equip himself for the journey.
Before departing to go pick up equipment, Keilif will wait outside for the others. There were some observations of the Council members that he would still like to discuss.

Doubtful

Thank you, lady and gentlemen. We will resume our work and return soon with more answers for you.

Doubtful starts to head outside, anxious to begin the post-meeting meeting. Once outside he will resume carving on his shield until the quorum is established and discussion begins.

Keilif:

Seeing Doubtful exit the Council building, Keilif lowers his voice and inquires, "Master Doubtful, might the group make use of your home to discuss some matters of interest? I would feel better if we were away from...prying ears."

Jónas Gillman, fishy dude

Jónas follows Keilif and the group. He hopes they can go to Doubtful's place, because he rarely gets invited to anybody's home.

Doubtful

Speaking first to Keilif, That is an excellent idea. It feels like privacy and safety are more and more becoming the same thing. Let's head back to my humble farm. I want to hear of your and others' observations.

Come, Jónas, I have some goat cheese that you simply must taste to believe.

Jervis is torn wanting to get to the armor and weapons promised, but agrees that making plans now can help facilitate future endevers.

very well let us retire quickly and make our plans so we cna get to work.

Also if you could please return the ring I think it will come in handy when I meet with the city guard.

The brave adventurers talk and listen as the meeting concludes.

Mayor Palmer

No, thank you! All of you!

You guys have really impressed me in this meeting, and I am not just saying that because you are agreeing to help us, either. I will tell you the honest truth....... When you first came in here yesterday, I thought this would either end comically or badly. You have proven me wrong, and more than one of my colleagues as well. I for one am glad for that.

We will meet with you again in two days at this same time. It would be really nice if all of you could be here for that meeting. In the meantime, the council and I will have time to discuss your next move. Until then, please get yourselves ready for your return to the house. If there are supplies or equipment that you need, please acquire it before then.

And most importantly, Please do not talk about this mission to anyone who isn't involved with it. If you think you might already be in danger from these thugs, just think how bad it will get for you if one of them hears about you because you were bragging about it or told the wrong person. Trust no one and be back in 2 days time. Thank you again!

He nods to the guard and you are escorted outside again. The awaiting townsfolk give you another dirty look due to your special treatment as you pass, but none speak on it. The party heads over to their friend Doubtful's farm for some cheese and a nice conversation out of the way of any possible eavesdropping.

You can go ahead and continue the conversation right here. If there is anything else that you would like to purchase publically, or anything else you want to do, That can be done right here for now as well.

Once we are at Doubtful's farmhouse...

"Maybe it was just me, but the mayor wasn't taking very many notes during our report...not like last time. And two of the council members acted like they could care less about the meeting. And did you see Short Jack avert his eyes when Tortuga was picking through the stuff we brought back? In fact, he looked kinda ticked off about it. Weird huh? Not sure any of the other council members noticed this, but I have to tell you, something ain't right about all this."
Burly sighs and looks around for something to nibble on.
Winter is coming...

Doubtful

Doubtful begins by bustling around his cottage, ensuring that everyone has something to drink and making different foods available to all. Let's see, we have the bread, that fantastic goat cheese, this delicious granola from honey I harvested myself just last week, ooh-these sausages will work. And maybe some of- oh, looks like the cat got into that. We'll just put that back and move on. Tommy the hog will finish that off for me later. He listens in on the talk of the others while he manages the refreshments.

I noticed that about the mayor not taking notes at all this time around as well. And Short Jack, yeah, he couldn't look at the "medical supplies"...Ha!...at all, could he? Very suspicious. Anyone get a read on our Niel Bisbong who also did not speak up at this meeting? The most important thing the mayor said, in my opinion, is to not trust anyone. I just think the circle on that is a lot broader than even he meant. We must tread even more carefully.

(After the main topics are exhausted and we move on to lighter topics, Doubtful will excuse himself to go and check on the animals. He had already arranged with a neighbor to take care of them for the short term while he pursues this investigation but he wants to see them and spend a few moments.)

Keilif:

Turning to the group, "Aye, I noticed that myself. It was certainly strange, the way they acted during this second meeting. I'm not sure, but I think the priestess put us under a spell. She wasn't simply reciting a common prayer to her deity when we first entered. Perhaps something to ensure that we were telling the truth? Regardless, something strange is certainly afoot here in Saltmarsh." He then respectfully enjoys Doubtful's gracious hospitality.

Doubtful

Doubtful stops cold when he hears Keilif's comment about Juli casting a spell on the group. Fuming, he files this away for later. But first to see how likely this was.

How sure are you that a spell was cast on us?

Keilif:

Sensing Doubful's anger, Keilif sheepishly answers, "Well,...I...I...think she did. I...I mean...I'm not completely positive, but it wasn't a typical prayer. My only guess is that was what she was doing." Keilif swallows hard, takes a long drink from his cup of water, and waits for Doubtful's response.

I realize you can't be certain but I appreciate observations like that. It helps us make better plans. I'm not angry with you. But I am angry.

Keilif:

Offering Doubtful a smile, Keilif responds, "I know you're not angry with me, friend. It is rather underhanded and deceitful of her if she was conjuring without our consent."

Jervis pauses stuffing sausage and cheese in his mouth.

Hmm I noticed none of that. Perhaps the mayor just has a very good memory, regardless we will now be armed and armored and can complete out mission. I do see the wisdom of not telling anyine however.

he shrugs as he continues to eat

Jónas Gillman

Jónas munches on a chunk of magnificent goat cheese.

"I noticed the mayor not taking notes as well. I don't think it's because he remembered everything - more like he already knew it, or wasn't interested, or was presumptuous to not believe us! I think it is the first."

"I'm looking forward to getting some weapons as well! I'm still thinking, what kind should I pick. I really enjoyed having some extra reach with the 10' pole... Helps to keep me away from monsters and bad guys. Maybe I will ask for a nice spear."
