Surprise Roll: [1d6] = 1

Distance Roll: [1d12] = 6

Picking a trail up the narrow defile, the three companions suddenly stop in their tracks! Only sixty feet ahead, a group of five smallish shapes come tromping down, avoiding tripping over the rocks as they move in haste. The trio from Rifford was being quiet, whereas the others were speaking in some gutteral language not understood by the men. The companions have caught the others off guard, but the thrawn will be upon the comapnions in just a few seconds!

The unusual humanoids appear to be no more than four feet tall, but it is too dark to notice their features. Stepping to the back, Pursic confirms that they are not dwarves.

Lucky you caught them in surprise, your initiative roll was awful! You have one free action (not a round, but a free attack...e.g. have missile weapons and then wish to close upon them). Whatever you do, roll a d10 afterwards for next round's initiative.

Stanilus:
I take it the group of humanoids are showing hostile action? If that is the case i'll draw my dagger & throw it at the closest target to me. Then draw my Long Sword.

Hempel draws his dagger and slips behind a tree or into the biggest shadow he can find in hopes of availing himself to a sneak attack opportunity should the group appear hostile.

Forthcoming iniative roll: [1d10] = 9
Guh.

IMC thrawn (humanoids) are inherently evil, and eat humans. They will skin your characters alive if given the chance. Thus, I'll assume that Stanilus is moving to the side and flinging his dagger as soon as one is within short range (it's a shame he doesn't have two daggers). Pursic [0-level apprentice with 4 cantrips] steps back a bit and flings a sling stone at the first one in line...which Stanilus is also targeting. After that, Pursic will cast his light cantrip, since he believes that thrawn are repelled by light.

Pursic's SLing Attack: [1d20] = 19

Pursic's Sling Bullet Damage: [1d4+1] = 2+1 = 3

Pursic's missile strikes the leader directly in the chest, causing the feral humanoid to stop in its tracks and drop its javelin. Clutching its ribcage, the foul wretch barks out some command to its fellows...

The leader had a javelin that it was carrying, and the second one in line has a javelin. The other three have...the humans cannot tell- it's too dark to see!

Thrawns' Initiative: [1d10] = 8

Pulp, roll a hide in shadows to see if Hemp is avoiding detection. If successful, then he's not going to be attacked initially. Pyro, go ahead and roll for the dagger attack on the first one. Roll the damage as well (in case it hits). The humanoids gained initiative, so they will be attacking first next round.

Stanilus throws his dagger at the head of the pack & misses:

To Hit Roll: [1d20] = 6

Throwing his javelin at Pursic, who had wounded his leader, the second in line hurls his light spear:
Javelin Attack: [1d20] = 8

The leader steps forward to attack Pursic with a curved knife, offended by the young lad:
Leader's Knife Attack: [1d20] = 18
Slashed, the young Fordian is badly hurt, and his spell preparation is ruined:
Leader's Damage Roll: [1d4] = 3

Two of the three in back peel off and attack Stanilus with knives- their shortbows are unstrung!
Knife Attacks: [1d20] = 17 [1d20] = 10
One of them stabs the Varner, Knife Damage: [1d4] = 4, who is badly wounded.

The last attacks the slinking thief, who did not go undetected:
Knife Attack: [1d20] = 15
Hitting the man, he takes a slash across his side;
Knife Damage: [1d4] = 2

Pursic is badly wounded, but will use his own knife next round. Roll for attacks and damage, then roll for initiative.

Hempel does his best to stab his attacker. He's pretty panicked, and just wants this thing to not be attacking him anymore, so he's fighting offensively—getting in close and jabbing at the softest spot he finds.

Here are some dice rolls, to use when appropriate:
Initiatuve: [1d10] = 5
Attack: [1d20] = 5
Damage: [1d4] = 3

Stanilus takes a swing of his long sword to one of his attackers.

Oh my, your rolls are pretty bad. I take the first person's initiative roll for the whole party, BTW (I'm not in the practice of doing individual initiative, although I'll reconsider that if the majority of players wants to). Thus, your initiative is 5 for next round.

NEXT ROUND:
Thrawn Initiative: [1d10] = 6

Slashing at his attacker wildly, Pursic attempts to save his self:
Pursic's Knife Attack: [1d20] = 7

Unfortunately, the youth is too inexperienced.

Complete your attacks and then roll initiative once more.

Pulp, you need to attack this round before I can roll the humanoids' initiative for next round. Pyro's initiaive roll of 3 is pretty good- perhaps you guys can smack a couple before they gut someone. But, damn, those are some pretty lousy to hit rolls (much like Bill's were for a long time on the other thread).

Wounding the diminutive humanoid that was attacking him, Hempel forces it back. Grabbing its side, the thing steps back a few feet and thinks twice about continuing...

Thrawn Initiative: [1d10] = 5

Still desperate and terrified, Pursic slashes at the leader once more:

Pursic's Attack: [1d20] = 6

Unfortunately, the things dodges out of the way before the boy's weapon can connect!

Finish your attacks for this round, then roll initiative once more!

Now that he has a little distance from his attacker and is over the initial stage of blind panic, Hempel casts an appraising eye over his assailant even as he closes in for another attack. What does the Thrawn look like? What is it wearing and wielding? Can Hempel get a sense of what they were doing when they crossed paths?

Attack: [1d20] = 2
Unnecessary damage: [1d4] = 2
Initiative: [1d10] = 4

Stanilus again tries another swing of his Long Sword, from upper left to lower right!

Die Rolls:
To Hit: [1d20] = 14
Long Sword (To Damage): [1d8] = 1

Opps, Use Hemple's Initative roll above^ I hadn't noticed it at first!!!

Wow, those are still pretty bad rolls with the damage. Crossing my fingers for you, guys.

The small humanoids have skin of a dark color, hard to see what shade since the sun has set. The humans do notice that the humanoids' eyes are a rheumy, orange color and that they are wearing a motley colletion of furs. The first two had small javelins with wicked, barbed points, the others carrying (now dropped) tiny shortbows that were, fortunately, unstrung.

All are now slashing at the humans with nasty looking blades that look like fish knives.

The leader continues to press Pursic, stabbing at the youngster:
Attack on Pursic: [1d20] = 3
And misses the druid's apprentice, as the boy is jumping about in complete desperation.

Stepping in where its brother fell back, the second humanoid attempts to gut Hempel:
Attack on Hempel: [1d20] = 8
And the little beast's barbed knife swishes past the Felderman's stomach.

Both of the others press Stanilus, the only person present with a true melee weapon...
Attacks on Stanilius: [1d20] = 11 [1d20] = 5
And both miss the cagey warrior!

Roaring in anger at their failure to connect, the humanoids redouble their efforts!

PCs initiative = 4 (Pulp rolled first)

Thrawns' Initiative: [1d10] = 10

Pursic continues his wild slashes as the leader presss him, but the boy glances back to run away next round if the companions' situation doesn't improve!

Pursic's Last Attack? [1d20] = 14
Pursic's Damage on Leader: [1d4] = 4

The boy buries his knife in the humanoid's chest as it lunges forward and the thing drops instantly!

Weeping, he looks up to see what should be done next...

Continue your attacks, with the first responder rolling for next round's initiative.
