OK. You and Alastor have been passing the same lantern back a forth. I don't think a second lantern was lit. Since ThirdKingdom is bowing out, we'll just go with Lindon having the lantern from here.

As Brax and Lindon peer around the corner where the corrider turns to the east, they see three giant centipedes moving down the corridor towrds them. (they are just at the edge of the light ~20 feet away)

Brax starts backing up towards the rest of the party, calling out "Centipedes! Need some help here!" He is ready to engage them in melee

Peadar fears there is little he can do from the back of the pack, being as short as he is...

Lavex moves up to where Brax and Morel are and exchanges his hammer for his sling and loads it; ready to utilize against the centipedes....

Seeing those looking around the corner getting ready for a fight, Jofrid - from the shadows - readies his crossbow, the stock jammed into his shoulder.

Lindon Silverheart will use his spear to try to keep the big bugs at bay.

"Wannabe butterflies here, little help please?"

Here's how I picture what is going on...

Both sides know the other is there so no surprise round. Brax and Lindon are going to backing away from the corner...say 5 feet back from the edge of the corner. Once Morel moves up, since Morel and Lindon are armed with spears (thrusting weapons), they can fight 3 abreast with Brax, who is armed with a hammer. (If everyone was armed with weapons that needed to be swung then I'd rule they can only fight 2 abreast).

Lavex can get off one sling stone before Morel moves up and blocks any more shots. Since the spears have a longer reach (not to mention the range of the sling stone) you guys get to attack first this round (Brax gets included to make it easy). Next round we roll initiative like normal. Sound good? If so make some to hit and damage rolls and I'll tell you if they hit.

Peader and Jofrid are guarding the rear/seeing if any centipedes get past the others.

Brax tries squishing a bug without squishing his own foot

Brax attacks with War Hammer: [1d20] = 1 and does [1d6] = 1 dmg if he hits

Lavex takes aim with his sling and releases a stone at one of the centipedes before his field of fire is cut off by his advancing fellow party members....


To Hit Roll +2 due to DEX 16: [1d20+2] = 10+2 = 12

(I doubt that hit; but here's a damage roll just in case): [1d4] = 1

A 1....of course....

To bad Basic D&D doesn't use fumbles like the DDC RPG...Brax's '1' could have been interesting .

Lavex's sling stone whizzes past Brax's head , and while it does hit the advancing giant insect, it only manged to crush several of its many legs.

Both Morel and Linden are able to pierce the exoskeletons of a giant centipede and pin the creatures to the ground as they go through their death throws.

Unfortunately Brax was startle by the sling stone whistling past his head and missed his blow with his war hammer, barely managing not to crush his own foot.

The last centipede, alone and wounded, scurries backward towards the safety of darkness.

Jofrid edges forward in the shadows to see what his companions were smashing at.

So just to clarify our current position, Dogma, we're near a doorway on the southern wall of an east-west passage, with unknown passage to the east?

"Let's chase that last bug!" yells Brax. "Bring a light so I can see what I'm squsihing!" He runs in pursuit

Lavex frowns and mutters angrily to himself at seeing the effect his lousy shot had on the centipede and he makes a mental note to get some more practice in with his sling when next he has the opportunity. A moment later though; he can't help but smile and even chuckle a bit as the Elf bellows out a 'We shall meet again!' line to a fleeing centipede.

Mob mentality has won out and, bowing to peer pressure, Lindon will give chase with the lantern in hand. Gleefully.

"Light's a-comin'! Don't kill him without me!"

"Oh, brother..." Peadar mumbles under his breath as he follows the rest of the party after the centipede.

"Hope this doesn't lead to a nest of them..." he adds, in a louder voice.

Jofrid steps out of the shadows and examines the dead centipedes, seeing whether it might be worth gutting them to see what they've been consuming. . .
