[002] A Temple and a Tomb
Re: [002] A Temple and a Tomb
Naugrim calls over Wendell to examine and handle the vestments. "You may know more than me." He then checks out the objects underneath.
Re: [002] A Temple and a Tomb
Orram cautiously peaks under one of the tapestries covering an alcove to see if anything interesting is hiding behind.

Re: [002] A Temple and a Tomb
Wendel moves over to join Naugrim in examining the vestments (and the other objects if needed).
Re: [002] A Temple and a Tomb
Black Wolf is on one side looking behind a tapestry, so Orram tries the other. There is something in a dark corner lying on the floor between chairs. Pulling the tapestry further back and now that another torch has been lighted, Orram sees that the something is a bag. It isn't flat, so something is in it.

OOC: Rex, Black Wolf is looking into one Alcove, Orram is looking into the other and Naugrim and Wendel are looking down into the altar. I could assume that Rex means this to go to the pair at the Altar, but I'd rather not assume that.

Re: [002] A Temple and a Tomb
Wendel recognizes the vestments as those of a Priest of Ord. They look finely made, expensive, but nothing remarkable. Do either Naugrim or Wendel take the vestments out of the Altar to better examine what lies beneath them?

Sorry for the confusion, I meant the altar.

Seeing the impressive results of the magical trap, Wendel decides to be cautious and casts detect magic in case there are more surprises:

Re: [002] A Temple and a Tomb
There is a faint source of magic behind and below the Altar, under that trap door. There is another stronger source of magic under the Vestments inside the Altar. He can clearly see some sort of box under it, no two boxes, only one seems to be magical, though.shaidar wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 4:00 pm Wendel

Holding onto his spell, Wendel recites a short prayer to Ord before carefully removing the vestments. "There is faint magic under the trap door, and on one of these boxes." he gestures to the box that is emitting a dweomer.

Re: [002] A Temple and a Tomb
Naugrim examines the magical box, then if it seems not obviously trapped, opens it. The Laws govern magic, whether the magic wishes it or not.
...then the same with the other one.
Re: [002] A Temple and a Tomb
The box emitting a magical essence contains a smaller box covered with Arcane Runes. A Wizard could probably decipher them, but Naugrim cannot...except for one thing. This is some sort of Necromancy trigger. He has the idea that this is tied to whatever happened when the Priests of Shune tried to use the Altar to consecrate it to their god. It is still active and very likely dangerous.
The second box appearance is mundane. When opened you find a small bag containing two vials containing potions, a censer with a small bag of incense next to it, and a key on a silver chain. You recognize the markings on the vials, these contain potions of healing. The censer and incense would be used in rituals here at the altar. The key, well, you're going to have to find what it goes to, you suppose, but you do note that the chain would attach to a loop on a robe, so it was meant to be carried that way.

Naugrim gives the potions to Willow and the key to Ulfgar. He doesn't touch the necromancy-box but asks Wendell, "What do you make of it?"

"Thanks." He tucks the key into his pouch.

The wizard is fascinated by the runic box. "Hmmm, let me take a closer look."
He studies the runes on the smaller box, but is careful not to touch it.

Re: [002] A Temple and a Tomb
As best he can tell the spell is still active, too. Any Chaotic creatures are in serious danger if they are anywhere near the Altar. It doesn't affect any Neutral or Lawful creatures in any way.

Black Wolf turns away from the Alcove he was exploring and calls to the others, "Got a door over here."
Seeing Orram looking in the other Alcove he walks over to him and says, "You find anything in here?"
