15. Hunting the Troglodytes
Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
Thanks Doug - your last gave me a good laugh - I needed it!
if there is no healing left in the south, someone needs to bind Ewell's wounds or he'll bleed out

Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
I'm thinking you need to delete your character in the die roller and create a new one. As long as you link it to campaign ID 81, I'm cool with any lost history.Computer +1 wrote:This is just getting stupid now. Strom can't hit anything and now a natural 1. If Strom dies don't bother to help him, he is a useless shit and deserves to die at this point.
Can't hurt, right?

Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
Also, does someone on the north want to make an initiative roll? I suppose anyone could technically do it. I just prefer, especially with the situation being as tense as it is, that a player make the roll.

Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
okay - you asked for it!:
initiative [1d10] = 7
How about I do Strom's attack rolls and you do initiative - we should still win even if you use a d20!!

Round 14
Order of Action

Map: Round 14 -- Start

To the North
Grimnail, fighting to hold off the northern swarm of troglodytes from gaining access to the passageway where the rest of the party is, acts first. With the comfort of not having companions immediately beside him, the barbarian quickly switches to his pair of hand axes, with which he demonstrated a great level of skill with in previous encounters. This time is no different. While his first axe misses its mark, his second results in a perfectly placed strike (+20xp) against the rightmost target (a10); the one that was closest to gaining entrance to the tunnel.
Strom relies on Kaltar to take care of the trog the slipped behind him and keeps his focus on the foes in front of him. He continues to try to time his attacks with Grim's, but misses badly as his intended target collapses after being struck down by the barbarian's axe. The knight, confident his inability to successfully connect was due to external factors and not his own lack of skill, takes advantage of the opportunity to withdrawal into the hallway and, at least temporarily, only need to concern himself with the troglodyte behind him (a9), currently engaged in melee with Kaltar, while Grimnail firmly entrenches himself at the intersection.
"Fim, you may have company... three look to be coming to you!" the cleric hollers down the passage as he continues to take a few more steps south. While accurately wielding his mace in the confined space continues to be too difficult for Kaltar, at least the warning has been sounded -- he hopes.
The young Darrin, currently unable to do much else, continues to retreat in step with Kaltar in front of him.
The beasts at the intersection currently being blocked by Grimnail are infuriated at their inability to pursue the rest of the group! Determined to remove their obstacle, one javelin strike after another -- piercing attempts that would have hit any other member of the party -- are deftly avoided by the half orc, who continues to taunt the creatures with orcish curses and menacing looks.
Kaltar is relieved to see Strom escape into the main passageway as well, but this observation proves to be enough of a distraction that his opponent catches him with a solid javelin strike (-7).
---
Stuck in the Middle
Fimmion manages to catch the warning from Kaltar and relays it to the group to the south. The cook inches closer to stand behind the halfling and, while trying to stay out of the way of the dagger-wielding hobbit, avoid catching the attention of the troglodyte fixated on O'rek and hold the lantern; tries to help Ewell and Shannigans back up with his one free arm.
No binding attempt possible on Ewell this round (-1hp).
---
To the South
On the verge of death, Epsilon uses his last 'Cure Light Wounds' spell on himself and is filled with despair as the healing he receives is as weak as he is (+3). His faith is quickly restored, however, as he is able to evade the incoming javelin thrust of his opponent.
Directly beneath the wounded cleric, focusing its rage on Gwillt, is another troglodyte (b6) which wildly pushes its attack against the ranger.
The last troglodyte currently engaged in melee (b9) tees off against O'rek, sending the cleric collapsing to the dirt floor as an unconscious mess (-5hp). The beast is quick to step over the fallen form of the cleric and position itself as a threat to those stuck in the middle of the passageway -- most immediately, Shannigans.
The named hobbit just manages to struggle free from the fallen form of Ewell when he realizes almost immediately the presence of the fallen cleric... and the menacing beast towering over him. He lashes out with his dagger and, using all his force, manages to cut through the scales of the previously wounded swamp creature leaving it with a noticeable limp and on the edge of certain death.
Out of the corner of his eye from the southernmost point in the passageway, Gwillt sees the kid go down. "No!" he shouts, swinging at the trog in a rage and sending the dead form of the beast crumbling in a heap.
---
Right Branch of the 'Y' Intersection
A trio of the familiar beasts is seen rushing south from this other branch, ready to engage the survivors to the south next round!

Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
On the bright side, O'rek softened 'em up for ya -- go get 'em!
Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
southern init [1d10] = 6
The halfling wildly swings his dagger at the creature again (b9) hoping to kill it and then run south to get south of Gwilt, one he knows to be a formidable fighter against these nasties.
dagger [1d20] = 9
+ 3 dex bonus?, i cant remember, looking it up now.....and i messed up the roll for damage last time? daggers are d4?
The hobbits eyes cannot get any bigger as he realizes that he has become a front line fighter, without front line fighter skills.....again

Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
Gwillt rushes up to the trog attacking Epsilon and executes a perfect slash down its front, slicing it from head to belly...
To Hit, Scimitar [1d20+4] = 20+4 = 24
(Second to hit for critical confirmation)
To Hit, Scimitar [1d20+4] = 14+4 = 18
Maximum Damage = 11
EDIT: bah... Just noticed something. Sorry to have to point this out, team, but trog b6 is missing from the map. I think that is who Gwillt is probably supposed to be attacking...

Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
Well shoot, I guess my last post edit didn't make it into the update. Sorry Ewell. I will just repeat some of what I typed last time and make it a clear action.
Fimmion will place the light source he is holding down and focus his attention on binding Ewell's wound(s). After applying the necessary first aid, the chef will go back to holding up the lightsource once again.

Oh... Huh. I read the text three times and didn't see where he'd killed it.onlyme wrote:You killed b6 last round...
EDIT: ah, I see it now. It was separated from the trogs attack. Got it now. Then b8 it is!

Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
Can epsilon then attack b9? or would he have to turn his back on b8 and have a free attack against him? Shanny is about to get killed in the middle with two dying men beside him....Alethan wrote:Oh... Huh. Also, can Darrin put his lamp down and move toward Ewell and Orek to help bind or attack b9? would that produce enough light for strom and kalter to see in melee?

Sorry I missed your edit.Rukellian wrote:Well shoot, I guess my last post edit didn't make it into the update. Sorry Ewell. I will just repeat some of what I typed last time and make it a clear action.
For future reference, I do most of my work in a text editor, not live on the website. I will copy-and-paste each action after they're posted into a text editor and work from it. I'm not notified of edits to existing posts, so if you want to add to or otherwise amend an action already posted, I would recommend posting the changes in a new post so I do receive notification.
Regardless, in the situation you were in last round, moving and binding Ewell wouldn't have been possible anyway. You should be able to accomplish them both this upcoming round, however.

Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
Epsilon can attempt to do whatever he'd like. He's engaged in melee with b8, and b8 is standing between him and b9. Yes, b8 will have a field day with him if he attempts to go around and attack a different opponent.onlyme wrote:Can epsilon then attack b9? or would he have to turn his back on b8 and have a free attack against him?
It's possible. The obedient lad has been dutifully been doing what was asked of him (providing light and coverage to those to the north). He might not even be aware of the situation behind him as there is that bend in the passageway. He's about to enter the halfway point in the bend and *might* be able to notice what's taking place behind him.onlyme wrote:can Darrin put his lamp down and move toward Ewell and Orek to help bind or attack b9?
If he places it in the right spot. If he carries it with him, the light will be lost to the north. If he drops it where he is first and then moves to the south in assist, the light will still provide adequate coverage.onlyme wrote:would that produce enough light for strom and kalter to see in melee?

Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
epsilon is sparking a rag in his flask of oil and throwing it at the trogs charging down the tunnel to engage them. perhaps it will at least cause a wall of fire to hold them back.
tried to roll attack but got a asp error. Never noticed the ap was old school asp before.

Re: 15. Hunting the Troglodytes
I just tried to make a roll myself (the damage re-roll for Shannigans) and also received an error:

I throw it out on whatever that thread is so Greg is aware of it in case he isn't already.

Round 14 - Revised
The last troglodyte currently engaged in melee (b9) tees off against O'rek, sending the cleric collapsing to the dirt floor as an unconscious mess (-5hp). The beast is quick to step over the fallen form of the cleric and position itself as a threat to those stuck in the middle of the passageway -- most immediately, Shannigans.
The named hobbit just manages to struggle free from the fallen form of Ewell when he realizes almost immediately the presence of the fallen cleric... and the menacing beast towering over him. He lashes out with his dagger and, using all his force, manages to cut through the scales of the previously wounded swamp creature. The blade cuts deep and the creature topples over backwards, dead.

That fortuitous error improves the situation in the south somewhat. At least temporarily.
