Re: Chapter 5: The long way home
The air/raft is packed and ready to go. Chiree, Channia, and Chendee are tucked into the "specimen module" to be out of the cold air.
What is your route?

Ringar
Talks with Chiree and siblings, showing them the map: Is where you are from big? Were there mountains there?

Re: Chapter 5: The long way home
Chiree points to the northernmost continent. I think that is our home. He then chirp-talks with his siblings, Chaania says it is probably there. And he points to a specific hex on the south-western side of the continent.
You can pull up the information on that hex and get a reasonable map. When you show it to the chirpers, they are excited and point to a place near the river/stream.
Chiree exclaims, It is there! Near the trees and fresh water!
Please note, to make the hex map correspond to the larger map, it has to be read in landscape mode. Fun with pens and watercolor pencils.

Can we plot the fastest course there while avoiding major population areas?

Ringar
Locking the location into the air rafts navigation system: Let's get to it then. Ringar will take the first round of piloting. Opening the garage door he will take the air raft outside of the station, with everyone onboard of course. About 50 yards from the station he will bring the raft to a hover and try to establish communication with the sub over his comm link.

I drew a suggested route for you. It avoids the major city on the continent.

OCC: Is Ringar able to establish contact with the sub?

Re: Chapter 5: The long way home
Yes, Ringar reaches the sub. The air/raft has a good communications system, definately higher than the local tech level (5).
Will he tell the captain anything about the station?
The captain is not surprised that you (pl) will not need a ride back. This allows him to take on more cargo for his return trip. He does ask how you are getting back to civilization (and warmer climes).

Ringar
Giving no indication of anything that happened on the base, wishes the captain good luck. He'll lock the suggested route into the nav and start the trip at the highest and safest speed. Everyone settle in...
OCC: Ringar will take a look for anything that can track the raft, that might be sending data back to the base (LoJack).

Re: Chapter 5: The long way home
Sorry, extra long weekend with beach trip and not much time for internet (plus most of the limited time just on my phone)
Sounds good.
Sounds good.
Re: Chapter 5: The long way home
Sorry. Wasn't sure there was much to do
until the trip got underway
Jrec
Jrec goes over the supply situation one last time, then finds a way to squeeze his large frame into the air/raft. "I'm already regretting this", he grumbles.

Re: Chapter 5: The long way home
Alright, then.
You are all buckled in and activate the elevator which takes the air/raft up to the top level of the station. This level is mostly open, with lots of space for air/rafts to land, and has other elevators that go down to the repair shop below. There is also a segment of the circle that has a building on it. Above everything, on top of the central shaft is a finned cap which houses (you assume) the environmental maintenance systems.

I suggest a quick acceleration to get out of view of the top area and then off we go.

Jrec
Jrec laughs. "I was going to suggest flying off in a different direction to throw in some confusion. But everywhere from here is North, so why bother?"

Re: Chapter 5: The long way home
The air/raft takes off smoothly, and you start heading northward. The weather is "normal" for the region: Cold, cloudy, and windy. The fastest you can travel here is around 80km/hr. so it will take nearly 10 hours to reach the continent. Much of your travel will be in the dark. Chiree and his siblings nest together and go to sleep. The comms going to the base are turned off.
Referee ruling: You started the trip in air/raft in the late afternoon.
What is order of piloting shifts?

Ringar is happy to take whatever shift wakes sense, since he is taking the first one he can just take the same slot each day.

Jrec doesn't have the Pilot skill, so I assume he can't be a pilot? Or does it mean he can, but not as well?
