Dex Check (17): [1d20-4]=4-4=0
Did I do that right? Not sure if I avoided the acid damage or not...
You did it right, and avoided the damage.
An Ability Check has been part of D&D since the early '80s at least; first in TSR modules and then it was officially included in Moldvay's Basic D&D. You need to roll the stat in question or lower (unlike most D&D rolls where you want to roll high).
Because your target was motionless and you said Fiefo was being careful, you got a negative modifier to the roll which helps Fiefo to succeed.

Sorry, Pixie. We're past three days. Onward!

In a bizarre glitch, my character sheet reset itself while I was updating hit points. When it came back all of Fiefo's Character info had been erased. (!) I was able to fill most of it back in no problem due to the handy summaries at the bottom of your posts, Inferno, but I have no idea what his current EXP count is...
It might have been caused by the new dice roller. If you want, you can bring up the issue here: viewtopic.php?p=529120#p529120
All PC's XP totals are tallied here: viewtopic.php?p=352808#p352808
Fiefo has 5,228 xp.

Hi Pixie,
Things like weapons, armor and magic items remained.

Turns over the alien with his sword to get a view of the genetic makeup of the alien. He is intrigued by the acidic blood and why it does not melt the alien from the inside out?
We could do with a coroner with asbestos fingers to perform an autopsy upon the creatures. He will drag the alien body and conduct his own thesis of no one else has such a skill. He figures because he has a cyborg component to his 'life' it may help him understand the mechanism of the strange biology which allows the aliens to live with such a strange toxic blood flowing through them. A bit of knowledge might offer some extra insight into alien weak points.
Hi Bluetongue,
Where is he dragging the body to?
Also, for the examination of the corpse, please roll an Ability Save vs. INT on 1d20. Thanks.

Composite bow THACO 19 [1d20+1]=11+1=12 Damage [1d6+3]=4+3=7
Composite bow THACO 19 [1d20+1]=12+1=13 Damage [1d6+3]=1+3=4
Hi red!
Fyi, I don't have any house rules that allow damage modifiers to missile weapons.

I thought the STR bonus to composite bows was standard. That's what makes them crazy expensive?Inferno wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 2:01 amredwarrior wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 3:31 am Connak Before more of them come, let's end these remaining incubators! Can you point me to a rule please in the PHB or DMG?

Out of curiosity I searched for that too. There is an allowance for additional hit/damage bonus for fighters using a point blank shot (weapon specialization) but that comes from UA which isn't generally included in this game. Always a new tidbit for me to learn in these rules even after all these years

Me too!
Fyi, I don't use any Unearthed Arcana except the Barbarian class.

Re: The Gamesters of 'Earth That Was' (ooc and questions ll)
Huh... I cannot, even looking in UA (ref the discussion above - not a source for this game.), that's just the way It's always been in my campaigns from the 70'S and 80's (maybe we got them confused with compound bows?). However, it is clearly NOT RAW. In that case, I can't see any advantage of a compound bow over a regular one. The only differences become a 60 GP cost and a slightly greater max range. And a few better "AC adjustments", which we are not using, and wouldn't justify the price anyway.
Would it be possible to magically travel back in time, and switch to short bow? That way he could get decent armor.
I'm scratching my head about the point of a composite bow, and why anyone would choose it over regular at those prices, I'm confounded. But hey, learned a new thing!
Re: The Gamesters of 'Earth That Was' (ooc and questions ll)
Yeah, there's no end of house rules that became standard over time.
Yes, but anything above studded leather will prevent use of thieving skills, as per PHB p.16.

Hey red: Please let me know what you decided, so I can update your AC if needed. Thanks!

Fyi, for comprehending technology, I'm using a rules system from Expedition to the Barrier Peaks by Gary Gygax.
A d10 is rolled for every minute spent studying/testing the object, with various results accumulating. Please let me know when you want to spend another minute or more in this task. Thanks!

Hi Raven,
In Ko-Nan's latest post, he said we need to find a place to recover our strength.
But in his previous post, he was ready to continue exploring south:
Just a friendly heads-up in case that change of heart was unintentional.
